Digital Commons EDIC

The European home for digital commons

Six EU Member States and eight observers pool resources to develop, maintain and scale the open-source tools Europe depends on. These tools serve public services, businesses and anyone who needs digital technology they can trust and adapt.

First projects

Two projects are under way. The first scales the national workspace suites Europe already has, making them interoperable and ready to deploy across borders. The second pools member-state investment into the open-source components we all depend on.

Connect national workspace suites

Europe already has national workspace suites: LaSuite (France), openDesk (Germany), MijnBureau (Netherlands). Our 100-Day Challenges have a defined scope and duration. They make these suites interoperable and ready to deploy across any EU Member State.

Fund open-source maintenance

All modern software depends on open-source components, yet their maintenance is chronically underfinanced. We are piloting a European Sovereign Tech Fund with Germany's Sovereign Tech Agency, pooling resources across member states to invest in the critical digital infrastructure everyone depends on.
