On this WikiProject Stub sorting subpage, you can propose new stub types (please read the procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on the talk page.
Proposing new stub types â procedure
[edit]Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stub article you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go to WP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add {{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors. This page only deals with stub templates and categories; we cannot help you with creating articles.
| Proposing new stub types | ||
If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:
DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. The proposal page is only for stub types that have not yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is the correct page for proposals to delete a stub type. ^ Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of a WikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case. | ||
"Speedy creation"
[edit]A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:
- S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
- S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope.
List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.

[edit]NEW PROPOSALS
[edit]- Note to stub creators:
United States gubernatorial election stubs and Senate election stubs
[edit]My browser's find function tells me that 87 of the pages in Category:Massachusetts election stubs and 69 of the pages in Category:Maine election stubs are about gubernatorial elections. None of the other child categories of Category:Northeastern United States election stubs (excluding those that already have child categories for gubernatorial elections) have at least 60 pages about gubernatorial elections, but combined, there are enough pages to create Category:Northeastern United States gubernatorial election stubs. (53 in New Hampshire + 42 in Rhode Island is sufficient even without considering the other northeastern states.) I therefore propose creating Category:Massachusetts gubernatorial election stubs, Category:Maine gubernatorial election stubs, and Category:Northeastern United States gubernatorial election stubs and also creating gubernatorial election stub templates for each northeastern state, the idea being that for states without at least 60 gubernatorial election stubs, the stub template can add pages to both the relevant state election stub category and Category:Northeastern United States gubernatorial election stubs. There also are enough pages for Category:Midwestern United States gubernatorial election stubs, Category:Midwestern United States Senate election stubs, Category:Northeastern United States Senate election stubs, Category:Southern United States gubernatorial election stubs, Category:Southern United States Senate election stubs, and Category:Western United States gubernatorial election stubs, so I propose creating those, as well as Category:United States gubernatorial election stubs, Category:United States Senate election stubs, and stub templates for all mentioned categories as well as for any nonempty state/office intersections (which would add pages to two categories). Care to differ or discuss with me? The Nth User 23:00, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

[edit]"Political party in XXX" stubs sub-cats
[edit]Note: this is not exactly a creation as much as a renaming, but this comment and a similar one in the existing category, are not getting any answers. Happy to move the discussion to a better place where people will discuss.
The argument is that, unlike ideologies that are better place beforehand (liberal political party, left-wing political party), names of locations are better placed at the end ("Political parties in Belgium", and not "Belgian political parties"). This is already reflected for categories of political parties per country (e.g. Category:Political parties in Sweden).
In addition, in this very case, the first category below leads to a confusion with European political party, which is different from "Political party in Europe".
I therefore propose the following changes:
- Political party in Europe stubs (replacing European political party stubs)
- Political party in Northern Europe stubs (replacing Northern European political party stubs)
- Political party in Southern Europe stubs (replacing Southern European political party stubs)
- Political party in Eastern Europe stubs (replacing Eastern European political party stubs)
- Political party in Western Europe stubs (replacing Western European political party stubs)
- Political party in Central Europe stubs (Central European political party stubs does not yet exist)
Julius Schwarz (talk) 05:43, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not totally convinced on this, stub categories don't always follow the permcats. If this is to go ahead then i would suggest a wider proposal that includes the categories for all the other continents, regions and countries as well as the european subcats of the Socialist Parties, Communist Parties and Liberal Parties categories. Also we would need to redefine the European categories if we are to create a Central European category. Waacstats (talk) 17:51, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- All of that is fine by me, @Waacstats, and I appreciate the better appraisal of what should be done, thank you.
- To be clear, my argument was not "the categories operate thus, so we should do the same", but more "this different phrasing is more appropriate, and this logic is also retained elsewhere".
- As for Central Europe, I know that many competing definitions of European subregions exist, but it does feel like a relevant category to add, as Central European countries (whatever the precise definition) are often grouped as such and separately from other subregions. One such classification (for EU member states, at least) is this one: https://eudemocracy.eu/grelo2024. Julius Schwarz (talk) 06:29, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
- Does anyone else want to chip in on this? I still think it is relevant to make this change. I am happy to take the lead, but would welcome more opinions before proceeding. Julius Schwarz (talk) 06:20, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
