Big beat musika elektronikoaren azpi-genero bat da, normalean sintetizadoreak sortutako patroiak - acid house/techno estilokoak- erabiltzen dituena. Terminoa musika britainiarraren industriak erabili du, besteak beste The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, the Crystal Method, Propellerheads, Basement Jaxx eta Groove Armada egileen musika etiketatzeko.[1]
Big beatek arrakasta zabala lortu zuen 1990ko hamarkadan, eta batez ere gailur kritiko eta komertziala lortu zuen hamarkadaren bigarren zatian, 1995 eta 1999 bitartean, The Chemical Brothers bikotearen «Dig Your Own Hole» diskoa, The Prodigy taldearen «Fat of the Land» eta Fatboy Slim egilearen «You've Come a Long Way, Baby».[2]
