#17  Bushido, then,  is the code of moral principles which the knights were required or instructed to observe.

私の訳：武士道はつまり道徳的原理の掟であって、武士が守るべきことを要求されたもの、あるいは教えられたものである。

矢内原訳：武士道は上述のごとく道徳的原理の掟であって、武士が守るべきことを要求されたるもの、もしくは教えられたるものである。

櫻井訳：武士道とは、即ち士林の輩の必ずや實踐すべくして、又た絕えず此れが遵奉を誨へられたる倫理の綱領なり。
