武士道 第15章 #44 大和魂は我が国の風土の独特で自発的な産物であり続ける

#44  The Yamato spirit is not a tame, tender plant, but a wild — in the sense of natural — growth ;  it is indigenous to the soil ;  its accidental qualities  it may share with the flowers of other lands,  but  in its essence it remains the original, spontaneous outgrowth of our clime.

私の訳：大和魂とは、飼いならされた柔弱な植物ではない。野生の――自然のという意味での――成長である。それはこの土地に固有の（土着の）ものであり、偶発的な特質を他国の花々と共有するかもしれないが、その本質においては、我が国の風土の独特で自発的な産物であり続けるのである。

現代語訳の解説

• 馴雅 婉孌（じゅんが えんれん）たる花に非（あら）ずして

  • ＝おとなしく上品で、しとやかな花のようなものではなく

• 野性を帶び、自然（じねん）なり

  • ＝荒々しさ（力強さ）を帯びた、ありのまま（自然）なものである

• 我國土の特產なり

  • ＝日本という風土特有の産物である

• 其 偶有性（ぐうゆうせい）は、之（これ）を他 鄕土の花と齊（ひと）しうするものありと雖（いえど）も

  • ＝その表面的な特徴（偶然的な側面）は、他国の精神と似ているところがあるとしても

• 其 本質は依然として我 風土に自發自生（じはつじせい）す

  • ＝その本質は変わらず、日本の風土において、自然と生まれ育ったものである 

「its accidental qualities it may share with the flowers of other lands」において、**"its accidental qualities" は文頭に置かれた「目的語」である。文法的には、通常の語順（SVO）を入れ替えた「倒置（前置）」が用いられている。
