A Small Weekly Joy: The Music That Fills Eden no Sono ー June 30, 2026 (Tue) Reiwa8

Today, while listening to the classical music playing in Eden no Sono, I became curious about the word Adagio.

I learned that Adagio is an Italian musical term meaning "slowly" or "at ease."

That explained why the music felt so calm and relaxing—almost enough to make me sleepy.

As I read a little more, I also discovered the fascinating story behind Albinoni's Adagio, including the mystery surrounding its lost manuscript and later reconstruction.

But what stayed with me most today was not the history of the piece.

At Eden no Sono, music is always playing in the shared spaces.

You cannot hear it inside your own room, but the moment you step into the hallway, the lobby, or the dining room, gentle music welcomes you.

Near the front desk, the CD being played that week is displayed. If I ask, the staff kindly let me look at the track list on the back, and they even allow me to take a photo.

Now it has become one of my weekly pleasures to photograph the CD, look up the pieces that catch my attention, and listen to them later on YouTube while learning a little about their background.

Last week, it was The Beatles.

Before that, I heard the Japanese classic Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki.

And this week, the CD is a collection of beautiful Adagio movements from famous classical composers.

    "The Beatles... and then enka?"

    "And now classical music?"

I couldn't help smiling at the wonderful variety.

One of the staff members told me they have about one hundred CDs.

Since they change the music every week, there is always something new to enjoy.

I'm not the kind of person who spends hours listening to music at home.

But living in a place where music quietly accompanies everyday life has taught me how comforting that can be.

    I now find myself wondering,

"What kind of music will be playing next week?"

That small sense of anticipation has become one more reason why I feel grateful to be living at Eden no Sono.
