悲しい曲を作る音楽家WPK、音楽で人を助けたい理由

First overseas expansion! English interview! Voice interview is not possible with my English ability, so it is a chat interview!
The first memorable interview is Norwegian musician WPK!
I was still figuring out the interview method itself. I used my imagination to ask questions from his music and chat messages.

インタビュー方式自体も手探りでした。作っている音楽、チャットのメッセージから想像力を働かせて質問しました。

This interview is a project in which I started to know what each person's uniqueness is over the popularity, gender, school clique, and race.
このインタビューは、知名度や、セクシャリティ、スクールカースト、人種を超えたところにあるその人らしさとは何だろうかということを知りたいと思って、私、qbcが始めたインタビュープロジェクトです。

I have kept interviewing with Japanese speakers for one year. However, as Japanese speakers are only about 100 million people, I decided to start interviews with English speakers as well to know more people's uniqueness.
1年間、日本語を話す人にインタビューを続けてきたのだけれど、日本語を話す人は1億くらいしかいないので、もっとたくさんのその人らしさを知りたくて、英語を話す人たちのインタビューも開始しました。

So let's get started with the interview like a journey for ten days!
それでは10日間のインタビュー！　旅のようなインタビューを始めよう！

So Williams, what do you do?
ではWPKさん、あなたは何をされている方ですか？

WPK：I produce music.
私は音楽を制作しています。

qbc：What kind of music?
どんな音楽でしょう？

WPK：I produce sad music. My music style is a blend of Alternative Hip Hop, Pop Rap & Emo Rap.
悲しい曲を作っています。オルタナティブヒップホップ、ポップラップ、エモラップが混ぜ合わさったのが私の音楽スタイルです。

qbc：Thank you.
What do you think about the Olympic Games being held in Japan under the circumstances of COVID-19?
ありがとうございます。
コロナ禍で日本でオリンピックが開催されることについてどう思いますか？

WPK：I don't really know anything about that. But I guess they should keep the COVID-19 rules until everything is over, but again I understand that alot of people in the world are tired of this Corona…
If all the people have taken the vaccine, that shouldn't be a problem.
それについてはよくわからない。だけど、すべてが終わるまではコロナのルールを守り続けるべきだと思う。もちろん、世界中のおおくの人たちがコロナにうんざりしているのもわかってる。
ワクチン摂取がすべての人々にいきわたれば、それで問題ないんだろうけど。

I like this song you made.
Please tell us your feelings and background when you made this song.
WPKさんが作ったこの曲が私好きなんですけど。
この曲を作った時の気持ちや背景を教えていただきたいです。

WPK：The feeling & background was to express the pain, sadness & the madness. When you have a big dream people just want to bring you down. You can't always trust people that is near you or anyone. It could be your lover, friends or family trying to bring you down. They see blue & make sure you see red. When you're drowning they will never stand up for you, even if you have helped them many times.
痛みや悲しみ、そして狂気を表しました。多くの人は、大きな夢を持っている人を引きずりおろそうとします。
身近な人や誰かを常に信用することはできないです。
あなたが持ってる夢から引きずり下ろそうとする人は、愛する人、友達、家族だってあり得ます。そういう人は青色の世界を見ていて、あなたは赤色の世界を見ているんだって気付いてほしい。もし周りの人をこれまで何度も助けてきたとしても、あなたが溺れているときにその人たちは立ち上がって助けてなんてくれない。

qbc：Is this song made from your actual experience?
この曲はご自身の実体験から作られたんですか？

WPK：Yes.
そうです。

qbc：I think it's a really too sad song.
Is music production for you to heal your sorrow?
この曲はタイトル通り、本当に"too sad"で悲しい曲だと思います。
WPKさんにとって、楽曲作りは悲しみを癒すものなんでしょうか。

WPK：Yes, & also to let people know that they are not alone. Many people have came to me & told me that my songs have helped them alot. It makes them go in another atmosphere & forget about the pain & the world.
そうですね。あとは他の人にも、君は1人じゃないよって教えてあげるものでもあります。これまでたくさんの人が私のところへ来て、私の曲で本当に救われたと言ってくださいました。音楽は、人を別の雰囲気の中へ連れて行ってくれたり、痛みや世間を忘れさせてくれます。

qbc："told me that my songs have helped them"
How did you feel when you were told this?
「あなたの曲で救われた」と言われた時、どんな風に感じましたか？

WPK：At first I didn't know what to say, cause I couldn't believe that my goal was happening.
This have always been my goal to reach out to those who have hard times in their live.
When people come to me with their problems I often take my time to talk to them & get to know them.
Many artist nowadays doesn't really care about their fans. Most artist only thinks about the cash & fame.
最初はなんて言っていいか分からなかったです。自分の目標が現実になっていることが信じられなくて。人生で辛い経験をしている人たちに手を差し伸べるというのが、常に私の目標だったんです。私のところに誰かが寄ってきた時は、よく時間をとってその人の話を聞いて、その人のことをもっと知ろうとするんです。昨今は多くのアーティストがファンのことをあまり気にかけないで、富や名声だけを考えてますからね。

qbc："This have always been my goal to reach out to those who have hard times in their live."

Why are you trying to help people with music?
人生で辛い経験をしている人たちに手を差し伸べるのが目標だったとのことですが、それはどうしてですか？
あなたの音楽でお金を稼ぐこともできると思いますが、なぜ音楽で人を助けようと思うんでしょうか？

WPK：Yes, I know. But the money wasn't the main picture. I want to help people with my music because it did the same to me.
そりゃそうですけど、お金がメインではなかったです。自分が音楽で救われたように、私は音楽で人を助けたいんです。

qbc：What do you think of your fans?
ご自身のファンについてはどう思いますか？

WPK：They're loyal & peaceful, & I love that!
私のファンはとても忠実で平和で、そういうところが私は大好きです！

qbc：I have heard about your current situation.
Please tell us about the past this time.
What kind of childhood were you?
これまでWPKさんの現在についてお伺いしてきました。
今度は過去についても教えてください。幼少期は、どんな感じでしたか？

WPK：My childhood was really hard... I got often beaten by my mom & dad. They told me many times that I wasn't good enough & that I'll never make it true this life. My brothers was often on their side... I stood often alone... I had friends, but they came & went... people used me alot. I moved to a fosterhome, but I didn't really liked it there & I wasn't really the school type of guy... All I wanted is to make music & let all the pain go in my emotional atmosphere.
私の幼少期は、非常に辛いものでした……父母にはよくぶたれていました。お前はいい子じゃない、お前は一生優秀になれないと何度も両親に言われました。兄弟もよく両親サイドについて、私は独りで立っていることが多かったです……友達はいたけど、できたと思ったら離れたりで、みんな私のことを利用してばかりでした。私は児童養護施設に移ることになりました。でもそこもあまり好きになれなくて、あまり学校に馴染めるタイプの子じゃなかったんですよね……私がやりたかったのは、音楽を作り、そのすべての痛みを自分の感情的な空気の中に放つことだけでした。

qbc：How old were you when did you happen?
児童養護施設に行ったのは何歳のときでしたか？

WPK：I was 14 years old.
14歳の時です。

How old were you when you started music?
What made you start music?
ありがとう。音楽を始めたのは何歳くらいですか？　音楽を始めたきっかけは？

WPK：I started music when I was 12 years old. I started music because it was the only thing that kept my pain away & made it easier for me to tell my feelings/story to people.
12歳の時に音楽を始めました。始めた理由は、音楽だけが唯一私の痛みを解放してくれたからで、音楽だと自分の気持ちや話を人に伝えやすかったのもあります。

qbc：What kind of instrument did you use at first?
What is your first audience?
どんな楽器を最初は使っていましたか？　初めての観客はどんな人たちでしたか？

WPK：I don't really remember, but I did use alot of piano, drums kit & synth until I start loving acoustic/electric guitar. My first audience was friends & family, but they made fun of me. Everytime that happened, I just kept going.
あまり覚えてないですが、アコースティックギターやエレクトリックギターを好きになり始めるまではピアノ、ドラム、シンセサイザーをよく使ってました。
最初の観客は友達や家族でしたが、みんな私のことをバカにしてましたね。そんなことがあっても、私はただ進み続けました。

qbc：I am grateful to you for talking about your music and life.
Who was your favorite musician when you were a kid?
音楽や人生についてお話しいただいてありがとうございます。
子供の頃に好きだったミュージシャンはいますか？

WPK：Akon, Timberland. But nowadays its XXXTENTACION, Lil peep & Juice WRLD
エイコンやティンバランドですね。でも今はエックスエックスエックステンタシオン、リル・ピープ、それとジュース・ワールドが好きです。

qbc：I heard about your present.
Then I asked about the past.
You entrust your emotions to music, and you value your music fans.
現在について、それから過去について聞いていきました。
自分の感情を音楽に委ねていて、ご自身のファンを大切にされているんですね。

Finally, I would like to ask you about your future.
What kind of future do you want to create?
最後に、あなたの未来についてもお伺いしたいと思います。
どんな未来を創造したいですか？

WPK：I want to create a future where I can help alot of people has possible with my music, & also to help them with money problems or any situation. I know I won't be able to help everyone, but I'll do my best to help most people in the future.
私の音楽でできるだけ多くの人を救ったり、お金の問題やどんな状況にある人も手助けする未来を創りたいです。全ての人を助けるのは難しいのは分かってますが、将来多くの人を助けられるよう努力します。

qbc：Why do you want to help people?
どうして人を助けたいんですか？

WPK：Many people that need saving, (help to continue in life). Most people just need a guide & someone that cares.
多くの人が救い（生活を続けるのに必要な援助）を必要としています。その大半の人はガイドだったりケアしてくれる誰かが必要なだけなんです。

qbc：How did you discover this?
" Most people just need a guide & someone that cares. "
「大半の人はガイドやケアが必要なだけ」というのはどうやって見つけたんですか？

WPK：Experiences
経験です。

qbc：What kind of experience is it?
どんな経験ですか？

WPK：I haven't only met bad people in my life. Some good people have helped me up. I remember when I was really down. Almost like life gonna end. This was before my music journey, but at that time someone came to me & told me "The only way for your life to be better or you getting stronger is to talk with people, let people feel how you feel even if they don't care...it will always be someone out there that will listen to you or feel the same. It's also important to put the past behind you".
& this is how my "Sad Vibes Forever" music started. I got the guideline, & many people need it too
私は人生で悪い人だけに会ったわけではありません。中にはいい人がいて私を助けてくれました。私は自分が本当に落ちこんでいた時のことを覚えてます。人生が終わりかけてた時です。私の音楽の旅が始まる前の話ですが、その時にある人が私のところへ来て言ったんです。「君の人生が良くなる、または君が強くなる唯一の方法は、人と話すことだよ。君がどういう気持ちなのかを人々に感じさせるんだ。たとえその人たちがそんなこと気にしないとしてもね。そこには必ず君のことを聞いてくれたり、同じように感じている人がいるから。君の背後に、いつもその過去を置いておくことも大切だ。」って。

qbc：I want to know who "someone" is
"but at that time someone came to me & told me"
Thank you for telling me your inner story.
辛い時期にWPKさんのところへ来て話してくれた方っていうのはどんな人だか知りたいです。自身の内側の話をしてくれてありがとうございます。

WPK：It was a really good old friend of mine. We really don't talk nowadays. The connection between us is not there anymore, I don't know what happened. Sometimes you can't explain things, sometimes things just happen.
その人はとってもいい古い友人でした。今では全然話さないですけどね。以前のような繋がりはもうありません。何が起きたかはわからないけど、世の中にはただそれが事実として起こって、説明できないこともありますよね。

The person was a good hearted person, cares alot about people.
その人は心の優しい人で、いつも他の人を気にかけていました。

qbc：I am glad that the two met.
Is this the cause of your separation from her?
"moved to a foster home"
お二人が出会えたことをよろこんでいます。児童養護施設へ移ったと仰られてましたが、その方と離れてしまったのは、それが原因だったんでしょうか？

WPK：Yes, but mostly that we grew apart.
そうです、でもほとんどはお互い離れ離れで育ってます。

qbc：In this interview, I also hear about other future possibilities.
What would you be doing if there was no music in your life?
このインタビューでは、他にどんな未来が考えられるかも聞いてるんですが、もしWPKさんの人生に音楽がなかったら、どんな人生になっていたと思いますか？

WPK：I don't really know. Music is a apart of my life.
それはさっぱりわかりませんね。音楽は私の人生の一部ですから。

qbc：I thought you would answer that too
そう仰られるだろうなと思ってました。

WPK："What my life would be like without music"
Im not sure how my life would had been without music. I don't know if I would had been the same person that I am today.
音楽が私の人生になかったらどうなってたか。やはりどんな人生だったかわかりません。今ある私と同じだったか、わからないな。

qbc：I understand that your life and your music are inseparable.
Do you have anything you want to say before finishing the interview?
あなたの人生と音楽は、切りはなすことができないんですね。
インタビューを終える前に、何か言い残したことはありますか？

WPK：Yes. June 4 I'm coming up with a new song called "Broken Hearts" feat. SHAS.
はい。6月4日に、SHASもゲスト出演した「Broken Hearts」という新曲をリリースします。

The song is about two broken hearts. Their love was almost perfect, until another image (person) came in the Picture. The bond between those two ex-lovers is so strong that they made a promise to each other.
We featured "SHAS" because of her special voice & the talent she came with. Swedish "Simon Evig" wrote & produced the melody. John Erik Skahjem is the Manager & Producer.
The song genre is a blend of Alternative Hip Hop, Pop & Emo Rap.
この曲は2人の失恋ソングです。他のイメージ（人）が”額”に入るまでは彼らの愛はほぼ完璧でした。元恋人同士の絆はとても強く、2人はお互いに約束を交わします。
SHASは特別な声と生まれ持った才能があり、今回ゲスト出演をお願いしました。スウェーデンのSimon Evigという方が歌詞とメロディーを作ってくれました。また、John Erik Skahjemという人がマネージャー兼プロデューサーをしています。この曲のジャンルはオルタナティブヒップホップ、ポップラップ、エモラップの融合です。

Liberia is a country like this.
It was founded by the liberated black slaves in the United States. It was independent in 1847 and is the second oldest country in Africa today after Ethiopia. However, due to the two intermittent civil wars between 1989 and 2003, it became a chaotic country full of war. It is still one of the poorest countries in the world due to its influence.　-wikipedia

リベリアはこんな国です。
アメリカ合衆国で解放された黒人奴隷によって建国され、1847年に独立し、現在のアフリカの中ではエチオピアに次いで古い国である。しかし1989年から2003年にかけて断続的に2度も起きた内戦により、戦争一色の無秩序な国と化していた。現在もその影響で世界最貧国の1つとなっている。

He currently lives in Norway, but I think the sadness of his songs and his desire to save people with music came from his life in Liberia.
現在はノルウェーに住んでいる彼ですが、彼の楽曲にある悲しさ、また彼が音楽で人を救いたいという気持ちは、リベリアでの生活から生まれたものなのだと思っています。
