Apple Watch Ultra review: The best Apple Watch ever, but most won't need it

The Apple Watch Ultra is aimed at athletes and adventurers, but there's still a lot here for casual users.

Apple's new Watch Ultra is a maximal wearable with new features designed to make life easier for mountaineers, deep sea divers, endurance sports athletes, and people who don't spend their days in front of a laptop screen in general. I am none of these things, but even as a merely semi-active urbanite, I can see the appeal of the Apple Watch Ultra -- it's got a bigger, brighter screen that's easier to read even from a distance or under the most intense sunlight; it's built like a tank, so I don't stress when I accidentally clang my wrist against table edges and car doors; and battery life is much, much better -- enough that I can take it on a weekend trip without needing to bring a charger.

Apple iPhone 14 review: The most iterative update ever to a great smartphone

The iPhone 14 is the most iterative upgrade ever with little new. Is it worth buying over last year's iPhone 13? We find out in this review.

The iPhone 14 is such an incredibly minor update that no iPhone 13 owner with a sane mind should consider upgrading to it. The fact that iPhone 14 doesn't even do the bare minimum to justify an upgrade from its predecessor is a reminder of Apple's incredible grip over the smartphone market and how it can afford to get away with controversial moves that others simply can't. Can you imagine any Android brand releasing a flagship with the same chipset as its predecessor, and getting away with it?

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max review: As good as a Pro iPhone can get for another year

The iPhone 14 Pro Max brings new cameras, a new chip, and a new user interaction that promises to change the future of screen cutouts.

Apple has been launching "Pro" iPhones since 2019's iPhone 11 series, but it wasn't until this year's iPhone 14 Pro phones did it really put meaningful separation between the Pro and non-Pro iPhones. Some of this separation is due to true innovation: the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max introduce a whole new user interface that has generated discourse through the tech industry over the past couple of weeks, and will very likely inspire sweeping changes to Android phones' UI in the near future. The Pro iPhones also introduce the most pixel-dense camera ever to an iPhone, one that opens up a new optical zoom length and raises the ceiling for what professionals can do in terms of photo editing.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max Camera Shootout and Comparison: A back and forth battle

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the latest phone with impressive cameras, so it goes against the iPhone 13 Pro Max to see which phone does it better!

The iPhone is the most mainstream phone, which makes it almost seen as the "default smartphone." This means anytime a major Android smartphone arrives, it should be compared against the iPhone, even if they don't appeal to the same market. That's the case here, as the Xiaomi 12S Ultra has been grabbing a lot of attention for its 1-inch camera sensor with Leica optics, even though the phone is selling only in China for now. This means this comparison is more for enthusiasts and those curious about smartphones than an actual buying guide. It's also worth mentioning that the smaller iPhone 13 Pro has the exact same camera hardware as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, so all camera results here apply to that phone as well.

iOS 16 Developer Beta 1 Hands-on: Meaningful improvements across the board

iOS 16 has a bunch of changes, and these are some of the best and biggest that we've spotted so far in the Developer Beta 1. Read on!

I have a lot of problems with iOS as an operating system, but I'm also a pretty big fan of my iPhone 13 Pro. While the software isn't perfect, I like it overall, and Apple has been rolling out improvements to it over the years. There are a lot of features I really wish it had, but there are also some things it does do better than Android, and even more of those have been brought in with the release of iOS 16.

watchOS 9 Developer Beta 1 Hands-On: Iterative improvements focusing on exercises and sleep

watchOS 9 is the latest update for Apple Watch, and we try out the Developer Beta 1 to see how good the changes are. Check it out!

Compared to all the other software updates announced at this year's WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) including and especially the game-changing iPadOS 16, the new software for the Apple Watch -- watchOS 9 -- is a mostly iterative update with subtle improvements. But with so many people wearing the Apple Watch (reportedly over 100 million) and with the wearable being positioned as a health tracking device, watchOS 9 is nonetheless a very important update.

iPadOS 16 Developer Beta 1 Hands-On: Real multitasking makes iPad Pro a more realistic computer replacement

Apple's iPad finally gets some real multitasking abilities, thanks to iPadOS 16. Here's our hands on of the Developer Beta 1!

Apple's been calling the iPad Pro a "computer replacement" since the line first made its debut in 2015, and at the time, that claim was way too far-fetched. The iPad Pro at the time could only run one app at a time, and it didn't have a filing system. What kind of computer can't multi-task or download and store a file? The iPad Pro was a giant-sized iPhone.

When Apple announced it would be building its own silicon to replace Intel processors a couple of years ago, the tech industry didn’t know what to expect. Intel’s processors had been so dominant for so long, that even the most diehard Apple fans weren’t sure Apple silicon could truly power laptops.

Apple iPhone SE 3 (2022) Review: A15 Bionic at $430 just about makes up for outdated design

The new Apple iPhone SE 3 (2022) brings the best mobile SoC and a small build for $430. But does it bring a great experience? Read our review!

You know the saying "looks aren't everything -- it's what's inside that count"? That's the new third-generation iPhone SE (which we'll call iPhone SE 3 going forward) in a nutshell. While the phone has a sleek, understated look that doesn't offend, I can't in good conscience say it looks good either. Not with the thick bezels, not-even-1080p LCD screen with angular corners, and the fingerprint magnet back. But while the iPhone SE 3 is not a looker, it packs the smartest brain in smartphones right now -- the Apple A15 Bionic. This is the same 5nm chip powering the iPhone 13 series (including the top dog, the iPhone 13 Pro Max), and it's more powerful than any other mobile SoC, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This means the $430 iPhone SE has better brains than any Android phone right now, even the ones that cost well over $1,000.

Apple Watch Series 7 in three different bands and versions

Apple Watch Series 7 Review: Bigger screen, better battery and brilliant experience

The Apple Watch 7 is an incremental upgrade to the previous version, but the product itself manages to stay miles ahead of the competition.

The launch of the iPhone 13 series also saw the launch of the Apple Watch Series 7, even though it wasn’t available to buy up until last month. The Apple Watch is already so far ahead of any notable competition that it has entered the phase where the changes between generations are few and far between and the Apple Watch Series 7 is no different.

iPhone 13 Pro Max Review: Too big for me, and I usually like big phones

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max is too big for most people. But if you have large hands, this is the most powerful phone you can buy

For as long as I've been using smartphones, I have almost always preferred the biggest possible version of the phone I carry. When Samsung's first Galaxy Note phones drew mockery for its (at the time) gigantic 5.3-inch display, I was enamored by the possibility of watching movies or NBA games on a phone without squinting. Later, I cycled through the iPhone 6 Plus, LG V10, and Xiaomi Mi Note 2 -- all devices that were considered "phablets" at the time, without issue.
