Contested deletion
[edit]Notable personage. Many verified referenced national publications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Afeifer (talk • contribs) 18:20, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... Dr. Borsuk is a medical professional in Canada, that would be a great addition to the Wikipedia community. As we are continually optimizing his page, we will be sure to keep in mind of the inclusion of important facts and data. --DrBorsuk (talk) 14:23, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
Dr. Borsuk has made great additions to the medical practice of facial reconstruction in North America and canada. As the sole and first Canadian to perform facial transplants and innovative surgeries, he is an important figure in the field. Anniechartrand1 (talk) 17:53, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
I have been citing the references properly now and including only national publications. Thanks again Anniechartrand1 (talk) 12:04, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Request 1: Update academic rank to Full Professor / Professeur titulaire de clinique
[edit]{{edit COI}}
I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I am not proposing to edit the article directly and would appreciate review by an uninvolved editor.
The Université de Montréal's official researcher directory now lists Daniel Borsuk as “Professeur titulaire de clinique” in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery.
I therefore suggest updating any references in the article that currently identify him as an Associate Professor to reflect his current academic rank.
Suggested wording:
'''Daniel Borsuk is a professor of surgery (Professeur titulaire de clinique) at the Université de Montréal and Chief of Plastic Surgery at CHU Sainte-Justine.'''
Source:
- Université de Montréal, official researcher profile for Daniel Borsuk — current academic title: “Professeur titulaire de clinique,” Faculté de médecine, Département de chirurgie.
I am happy to defer to independent editors regarding the exact wording and placement. ~2026-55634-04 (talk) 13:01, 17 October 2026 (UTC)

I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I would appreciate review of the following proposed addition by an uninvolved editor.
In 2025, science journalist **Marie-Pier Élie** published a book about Daniel Borsuk and his surgical work:
Reconstructions : Incursion dans l'univers de Daniel Borsuk, chirurgien plasticien
The book was published in Montreal by **Les Éditions de l'Homme** in 2025.
ISBN: 9782761960700
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec catalogues the work under Daniel Borsuk and classifies it as a biography of a plastic surgeon as well as a popular-science work on plastic surgery.
The book follows Borsuk's career and surgical practice, with Canada's first face transplant and the treatment of Maurice Desjardins forming a central part of the narrative. It also discusses reconstructive and pediatric surgery performed at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont and CHU Sainte-Justine.
Suggested neutral wording:
In 2025, science journalist Marie-Pier Élie published Reconstructions : Incursion dans l'univers de Daniel Borsuk, chirurgien plasticien, a biographical and popular-science account of Borsuk's career and surgical practice. The book focuses in part on the first face transplant performed in Canada and also examines his reconstructive and pediatric surgical work.
Possible placement: toward the end of the Biography/Career section, or after the paragraph concerning the documentary series.
Independent/authoritative sources include:
- Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, bibliographic entry for Reconstructions, identifying the book under Daniel Borsuk and classifying it under plastic surgeons — biographies and plastic surgery — popular works.
- Annie Labrecque, review of Reconstructions, Le Médecin du Québec, 1 August 2026.
- Association des communicateurs scientifiques du Québec: Reconstructions was selected as a **2026 Prix Hubert-Reeves finalist in the Grand public category**.
The independent review in Le Médecin du Québec specifically describes Marie-Pier Élie following Dr. Borsuk for several months in the operating rooms of Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont and CHU Sainte-Justine and discusses the book's treatment of the Canadian face transplant and other reconstructive procedures.
I am happy to defer to independent editors regarding wording, weight and placement. ~2026-55634-04 (talk) 13:02, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
Request 3: Add Norman Rowe Lecture and Norman Rowe Medal
[edit]{{edit COI}}
I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I would appreciate independent review of the following factual addition.
On 5 July 2024, Daniel Borsuk delivered the Norman Rowe Lecture at the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons annual meeting in Oxford.
The lecture was titled:
''The Surgical Blueprint to a Beautiful Face''
The official BAOMS conference programme lists the Norman Rowe Lecture from 14:00–15:00 on 5 July 2024 and immediately following it records the “Award of the Norman Rowe Medal.”
The Université de Montréal also lists the Norman Rowe Medal, British Association Maxillofacial Surgeons, Oxford University, United Kingdom, July 2024 among Borsuk's awards and distinctions.
Suggested wording:
'''In July 2024, Borsuk delivered the Norman Rowe Lecture, titled ''The Surgical Blueprint to a Beautiful Face'', at the annual meeting of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Oxford, where he received the Norman Rowe Medal.'''
Sources:

- BAOMS President's Newsletter, reporting that Daniel Borsuk delivered the 2024 Norman Rowe Lecture.
- Université de Montréal official profile, Awards and Recognitions section.
I am happy to defer to independent editors regarding whether this belongs in the prose biography or Awards section. ~2026-55634-04 (talk) 13:03, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
Request 4: Clarify Meritorious Service Cross award and investiture

I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I would appreciate an uninvolved editor reviewing the dates associated with the Meritorious Service Cross.
The Governor General of Canada's official honours database lists Daniel Evan Borsuk as a recipient of the **Meritorious Service Cross, Civil Division**.
The official record gives:
- Awarded: 15 January 2024
- Invested: 11 December 2025
The Governor General's December 11, 2025 honours notice states that the decoration recognized Borsuk and his team's performance of Canada's first-ever face transplant in 2018 and the significance of that surgical achievement.
If the article currently gives only the 2024 date, I suggest clarifying the distinction between the date on which the honour was awarded and the later investiture.
Suggested wording:
Borsuk was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross (Civil Division) on January 15, 2024, in recognition of his role in Canada's first face transplant. He was formally invested with the decoration by the Governor General of Canada on December 11, 2025.

I am happy to defer to independent editors regarding the exact wording. ~2026-55634-04 (talk) 13:04, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
Request 5: Add 2025 Tout le monde en parle appearance
[edit]{{edit COI}}
I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I would appreciate review by an uninvolved editor of the following possible addition to the media/public-profile portion of the article.
Daniel Borsuk appeared as a guest on the season premiere of Radio-Canada's ''Tout le monde en parle'' on 21 September 2025.
Radio-Canada's official announcement for the episode lists Borsuk among the guests and identifies him as the plastic surgeon who performed Canada's first face transplant.
Suggested wording:
'''On September 21, 2025, Borsuk appeared as a guest on Radio-Canada's ''Tout le monde en parle'', where he was presented in connection with Canada's first face transplant.'''
Source:
- Radio-Canada, ''Tout le monde en parle, de retour ce dimanche à 20 h!'', published September 19, 2025, announcing the September 21 season premiere and its guests.
