Wise words given to a blocked editor: This absolute adherence to the idea that your interpretation of the rules is paramount and everyone else's input is merely an obstacle to overcome is an accurate summary of how you ended up in this position. No matter how cute you are, expect no quarter in the cruel world of Wikipedia.
While Wikipedia's written policies and guidelines should be taken seriously, they can be misused. Do not follow an overly strict interpretation of the letter of policy without consideration for the principles of policies. If the rules truly prevent you from improving the encyclopedia, ignore them. Disagreements are resolved through consensus-based discussion, not by tightly sticking to rules and procedures. Furthermore, policies and guidelines themselves may be changed to reflect evolving consensus. (WP:NOT)
A request for comment is open to discuss retiring CSD criterion R3 in favour of handling such redirects through RfD.
Arbitration
Following a motion, remedy 9.1 of the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been amended to limit TenPoundHammer to one XfD nomination or PROD per 24-hour period.
Following a motion, the Iskandar323 further POV pushing motion has been rescinded.
The Arbitration Committee has passed a housekeeping motion rescinding a number of outdated remedies and enforcement provisions across multiple legacy cases. In most instances, existing sanctions remain in force and continue to be appealable through the usual processes, while some case-specific remedies were amended or clarified.
Birthday mode: This limited-time campaign feature celebrates 25 years of Wikipedia with a birthday mascot, Baby Globe. When turned on, Baby Globe is shown on ~2,500 articles, waiting to be discovered by readers. The feature is available for all Wikipedias to customise through Community Configuration until 6 April 2026. So far 17 Wikipedias have joined in the fun.
Wikipedia's 25th birthday party celebrated on Commons: Content from the January 15th global birthday party selected as Media of the day.
Etherpad cleanup: For security and performance reasons, all current pads on Wikimedia’s Etherpad instance, the web-based "ephemeral" editor for real-time collaborative document editing, will be permanently deleted after 30 April. We will continue running this Etherpad instance to support events and other short-term collaboration, but will be periodically deleting data going forward. If you have content in Etherpad you want to keep, please create local backups, as data will be permanently deleted and will not be able to be recovered.
Activity tab: Wikipedia iOS app has rolled out the improved Activity tab to all users in version 7.9.0. A/B test results showed increased account creation among users with access to the feature. Updates include enhanced editing impact insights, module customization, and relocation of History into the Search tab.
Reference Check: The feature Reference Check has been deployed to all Wikipedias. In A/B testing, the impact was substantial: newcomers shown Reference Check were approximately 2.2 times more likely to include a reference on desktop (or acknowledge/explain why they did not) and about 17.5 times more likely on mobile web.
Semantic search: The Foundation has launched a limited Android mobile app experiment that tests hybrid search capabilities which can handle both semantic and keyword queries. The Phase 1 beta is now live on Greek Wikipedia. The goal is to understand whether combining meaning-based retrieval with keyword search helps readers find information more effectively. Testing will expand to English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias in March.
Navigation experience: The Foundation will run an experiment for mobile web users, that adds a table of contents and automatically expands all article sections, to learn more about navigation issues they face. The test will be available on Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, and Vietnamese Wikipedias.

Thank you, User:DreamRimmer, I was going to ask if you could review the ones I commonly use (I think there are about 6 or 7). I borrowed all of them from editors who are more skilled in writing and amending code so I'm rather helpless to fix them when things change on the other end. If you could still review those listed at the top of the page for my profile on Quarry, I'll be eternally grateful. Thank you for being so responsive, a skill I definitely need to improve on. LizRead!Talk!01:40, 8 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how involved you are in this case, I just wanted a second opinion so thank you. I see this kind of thing a couple times a year, an overly enthusic new editor just goes overboard creating dozens and dozens of categories or redirects or sometimes an entirely new WikiProject overnight, usually. I'll see if things quiet down over the next hour. I hadn't thought of a namespace block but that's probably the best solution. LizRead!Talk!01:35, 8 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
No worries! Happy to give the second oppinion! I've been keeping an eye on them for similar reasons. They've been at it for a couple of weeks with making overlapping categories. These kinds of editors have potential, but it is tough when they repeatedly go overboard. SMasonGarrison01:40, 8 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident? A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

Hi Liz. I wanted to let you know that I removed the CSD tag you placed on the above article. The AFD was in 2014, and the article contains post-2014 information, so I don't see how it could possibly be identical to the deleted version. Given that, I don't think G4 applies here. You're welcome to take it to AFD if you still think it should be deleted. (Also, I'll admit that this is a very strange message for a non-administrator to give to an administrator. Shouldn't it be the other way around?) Chess enjoyer (talk) 06:20, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz, I appreciate all the work you do in the maintenance space, but have some concerns that many of the empty categories you've tagged don't meet the CSD criteria.
WP:C1 says that it does not apply to project categories that by their nature may become empty on occasion, and also to Place {{Possibly empty category}} (or, for administrative categories, {{Wikipedia category}}) at the top of the page to prevent such categories from being deleted (emphasis mine). Many of your tags yesterday were on ineligible categories that had {{Wikipedia category}}, such as this one that's been used since 2011; it may be worth adjusting your search query to exclude any cats with this template?
Also a friendly request to please double check pages before tagging, as it appears you accidentally tagged this as empty. Thanks, nilnz23:39, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the deletion of Talk:Higglytown Heroes (2003 TV series) because i going through the tags list when I saw a talk page without an article. So I used the G8 template via Twinkle, and within 20 minutes after I put that in, it was deleted. Glad i caught it really quickly. ~ŤheŴubṂachine-840≈23:20, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on February 27. Please help translate.
Highlights
Supporting readers: For most of its history, Wikipedia did not have to worry about attracting readers. But with the way people search for information changing, there is a drop in the number of readers which is impacting the number of accounts created and contributions to our sites. Have a look at some of the ongoing and planned work to support reader experience.
Wikipedia 25 Grants: The celebration continues! The Wikimedia Foundation offers Wikipedia 25 Birthday Funds to communities planning Wikipedia’s 25th birthday events with funding between USD 1,000–2,000. Apply before March 31.
Experiments: The Foundation is frequently conducting experiments to help learn what features will be most effective and valuable to the projects. The list of experiments in Product and Technology, tracks upcoming, live, in-analysis, and completed experiments as well as their rationale. For example, the tracker shares that one upcoming experiment, Reader to Contributor Baseline, will measure how many readers create contributor accounts and whether the rate differs depending on how people arrived to the site.
Editing feature: Suggestion Mode is available as a beta feature within the visual editor at all Wikipedias. This feature proactively suggests various types of actions that people can consider taking to improve Wikipedia articles, and learn about related guidelines.
Paste Check: Paste Check is now available at all Wikipedias. The feature prompts newcomers who are pasting text they are not likely to have written into VisualEditor to consider whether doing so risks a copyright violation.
Mobile experience: The user menu in the top corner for all mobile users is standardized so that it is closer to the desktop experience to improve the user interface for readers.
Two-factor authentication: For security reasons, members of certain user groups are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Currently, 2FA is required to use the group, but not to be a member of it. Given that this model still has some vulnerabilities, the situation will gradually change in March.
Tech News: Latest updates from Tech News week 10 and 11 include the new GraphQL API has been released as a flexible alternative to select features of the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS). They also link to the 50 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Don't Blink: The latest developments from around the world about protecting the Wikimedia model, its people and its values.
Wiki Loves Earth 2025: See the winners from the 13th annual edition of the globe-trotting photo contest.
Wikimania 2026: While most Wikimania program submissions are closed, the research track is open until March 31. It accepts proposals from both professional researchers and Wikimedians.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on March 13. Please help translate.
Editing on the mobile apps
Highlights
Supporting the mobile experience: The Foundation is starting conversations with communities to explore how editing should work on the Wikipedia mobile apps. The goal is to understand how to better support both new and experienced editors, and how the app can guide users to the right editing tools. Your input is welcome. Join the discussion!
Wikimania 2026: Registration for Wikimania 2026 is opening soon from the end of March to May 1. Like other Wikimedia events this year, we are introducing a "request for invitation" process, with trust and safety checks conducted prior to confirming in-person attendance. Our priority is to create a safe environment for connection, collaboration, and shared learning.
Around the Puzzle Globe in the CEE region: On March 23 almost 60 Wikimedians took part in the CEE-Catch up- a meeting for Wikimedians from Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. As a part of continuous conversations we have with the communities around the Foundation's annual plan, participants discussed the global trends related to Readers and Contributors in their regional context. The meeting was also an opportunity to connect with the new Foundation CEO, Bernadette Meehan, who is meeting communities around the puzzle globe to listen, learn and engage with the communities.
Crawlers: The Foundation is now detecting and blocking billions of bot requests that don’t follow our robot policy, such as aggressive scrapers, to make sure our resources go towards serving human readers. In the coming months we’ll be working on better detection of rapidly changing bot behavior and better API infrastructure.
Moderator tools for newer editors: Wikipedia editors in Indonesian, Thai, Turkish, and Simple English now have access to an early version of Special:PersonalDashboard. It introduces newer editors to patrolling workflows, making it easier for them to move from making edits to participating in more advanced moderation work on their project.
Account creation on mobile: Mobile editors at several wikis are now presented with a simplified logged-out warning message, which encourages them to create an account or log in. This test is part of our ongoing effort to enhance the account creation experience on mobile and increase participation.
Verification email redesign:The verification email sent to new accounts that add an email address during signup has been redesigned. When tested on English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata, the same-week email verification rate increased from 41.6% to 45.9%.
Retaining notification history: Wikimedia site users can export their notifications older than 5 years using a new Toolforge tool. This will ensure that users retain important notifications and avoid losing them based on the planned change to delete notifications older than 5 years, as previously announced.
Tech News: Latest highlights from Tech News weeks 12 and 13 include the update that Wikimedia site users can now log in without a password using passkeys as a secure method supported by fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN. See also the 64 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Experiments: Check out the list of experiments in Product and Technology to see all upcoming, live, in-analysis, and completed experiments. One new experiment that just went live is the "Improve the logged-out warning message on mobile web," which aims to reduce the sense of friction or alarm when users encounter the logged-out warning upon editing.
Microtask Generator: Learn more about the Microtask Generator, a tool which identifies content quality gaps in Wikipedia articles and suggests tasks for editors to address within a dashboard. Users can input lists of articles for analysis, or get recommendations based on article categories. Ideal for edit-a-thons and other article improvement drives.
WikiLearn: Discover the latest edition of WikiLearn News where you can find the latest online learning opportunities to take your editing skills to new heights.

I did delete this article in 2021. It was an expired PROD. You should know with PRODs that another editor is identifying problems they see with an article and the admin simply acts on the tagging after 7 days if it looks like it was a valid PROD tagging. So, that's what I was doing, responding to the tagging, not evaluating the article. Deleted PRODs can be restored by making a request to any admin or going to WP:REFUND with a request. It looks like you did the right thing during a period when I wasn't responding to talk page messages promptly and I apologize for that.
Looks like the article has been restore and you are working on improving it. If I can help in other ways, let me know and I promise, you won't have to wait another 2 months for an answer. Have a great summer weekend! LizRead!Talk!22:04, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Liz,

Greetings Liz. I will appear as new user. However, I previously edited many articles as user "Peteycat" but was unable to recover my password and so I set up this new account.
I wanted to create an article on the Rock Lititz stage production facility however I discovered one was previosly attempted and deleted by you. I tried to restore the draft to look at but it was blank. Do you have any insight into the deletion? Was it because the subject was deemed unworthy or was it an adminstrative issue?
I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I did delete this draft, Draft:Rock Lititz, as a stale draft, CSD G13, which is a standard process we do here for drafts that are considered "abandoned" that haven't had any human edits to the page in six months. Then you requested that the draft be restored and an admin did so. You have continued to work on the draft. Everything went according to policy and all content has been restored. I'm not sure if there is any other way I can help. LizRead!Talk!00:41, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Liz,
Thank you for reaching out.
Can I delete the Pink Decclined Submission blocks?
Chartrons, those blocks help reviewers reference the history of the article and understand what aspects needed closer attention. You can continue to edit the draft below the blocks. Drew Stanley (talk) 01:42, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just catching up with some messages that it's taken me a while to respond to. I'm sorry for the delay.
I read this exchange with Epic genius at User_talk:Epicgenius/Archive/2026/Apr#h-U1_deletion?-20260405094400 which made perfect sense. Over the years, we have occasionally had problems with some editors who move bad articles or drafts to their User space and then tag them for speedy deletion as a CSD U1. I no longer patrol CSD categories any longer but those admins who do need to carefully check articles in User space that are tagged CSD U1. It looks like my role was in deleting a broken redirect. But I'll certainly be careful and I hope other admins will, too.
Hi, Liz, thanks for ping and the reply. As far as I'm concerned this is now water under the bridge. You've probably seen that a few days after posting here I undeleted, moved, reverted and re-deleted that specific page. I didn't check whether you'd deleted other similar pages improperly moved by the same user, but I suppose that if you did, those deletions should probably also be undone. I was not sure of our policy in this situation, so am grateful to Epicgenius for clarification here. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:48, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Justlettersandnumbers, thanks for the heads up. To my knowledge I haven't deleted any other pages by that user (or any others) which were improperly moved to userspace and tagged with U1 or G7. But yeah, if the tagging user isn't the only major contributor to the page before and after it was moved to userspace, the U1 and G7 criteria wouldn't be applicable, and the page should not be deleted.@Liz, if you were interested, the correct link to the discussion is here. –Epicgenius (talk) 00:30, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestion.
The problem was mostly in one set of categories. I moved a lot of pages from "terrorism" categories to "political violence" categories, because I hadn't noticed that label is used differently for groups vs incidents until somebody pointed this out. This left a set of newly created "terrorism" categories empty.
I've been asking HB about any new categories that I expect will be controversial before I create them, but I hadn't noticed that sometimes a group's actions are in terrorism categories without the group being in similarly named categories.
The other G7 have been occasional typos. I usually check if a category can be filled before creating it, I just hadn't noticed the groups vs incidents difference.
Archives: I find it difficult to read long talk pages, so I set the max size of my automated talk archives quite small. When I manually archive, I don't save individual messages, but I start a new page for a new issue or topic sometimes.
I'm getting around to reviewing some older messages on my User talk page and came across this one. Is there a continuing problem here that needs to be addressed? If so, let me know. If everything is resolved, well, that's great. The longer we edit here, the more we learn and improve our editing skills. Hope your life is going well. LizRead!Talk!01:09, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Youth content creators: Wikimedia Indonesia, together with the Wikimedia Foundation, delivered an introductory session on Wikipedia for young content creators representing all 11 ASEAN member states.
Legal and Safety Contacts: The Wikimedia Foundation has created a single "Legal and Safety Contacts" page, to be linked in the footer of each wiki page. This will ensure that everyone has access to accurate and up to date Legal contact information. Insertion of the new links on different wikis will be done in stages, based on assessment of legal risk and necessity.
Building shared principals for the internet as a public good: The Global Advocacy team published a blog with the Center for Studies on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information (CELE) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) summarizing a workshop that brought together digital rights advocates from Latin America to dream of a "digital utopia."
Wikidata API: Wikidata’s structured knowledge is now available through Wikimedia Enterprise.
Annual Planning and global trends: Join the America APP call on April 21 at 18:00 UTC. This meeting is an opportunity for the Latin American community to ensure that the region's voice helps shape the Wikimedia Foundation's work and priorities for the next fiscal year. The call will be in Spanish with interpretation into Portuguese and English. The last meeting between Wikimedia EDs and Foundation staff was dedicated to discuss global trends too. More discussions are happening on-wiki and in community spaces around different regions and projects.

It looks like you had some questions about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Solar eclipse of January 5, 1935. Generally when an editor wants to work on an article to overcome a past AFD decision to delete or redirect, we advise them to work on a new version in Draft space and submit it for review with AFC. If you just undo an AFD decision on your war, it can unfortunately lead to edit wars or CSD G4 article deletions. It's better to take the slow route which can result in a permanent change. How is your work on this article going? Thanks. LizRead!Talk!01:14, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

You are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld17:13, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Where do events go if they're not historical analysis? Some places have a military history category, so I've been putting things related to these in history for that don't have a military history category. Is there a better place to put events? R.E: Speedy Deletion Nominations of Category Users Teng-5 & Cirt-5
Latest comment: 4 months ago2 comments2 people in discussion
Hello Liz,
Just messaging here in response to the nominations of Teng-5 & Cirt-5 categories for deletion just in case it may be missed. Yes, they were empty at time of your edits and posts, I had two pages ready to use them & was waiting for the category fields to update. When they did update, I went to remove the deletion tags as instructed, but couldn't as I had created the pages, so I posted a request for each page to remove them. Hope this clarifies the matter. All the best. EruannoVG (talk) 11:57, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello, EruannoVG,
Thanks for letting me know. The great thing about CSD C1 empty category deletions is if the category is needed in the future, it can easily be restored. It's just important that you don't get ahead of yourself. Don't start making categories before they are going to be used. I hope this has been resolved now. Let me know if this isn't so. Hey, Liz. Long time no see. I need your help. I am having a problem with a user. He has personally attacked me over my AFD nomination of a musician all because I believed it was "littered" with non-primary sources other than a movie review site and social media links, but lack with little magazine references. The user's name is @RandomEditor6772314. Please talk to him. I did not take a 6 month break from WP to come back and get blasted for what I did under my opinion. Darrion N. Sorry for the delay in responding to your message from April. It looks like you haven't edited for the past few weeks but when you lot back in, work for a week or two and let me know if you are still having problems. Sometimes differences between editors can die down when we take a break from editing and people move on to other concerns. Hope all is well with you. LizRead!Talk!21:57, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please RSVP at the link above, even if you might be interested, so we can know how many people to expect. To participate online, register for the event, then contact yours truly, TechnoSquirrel69(talk·email), for the meeting details. Hope to see you there!
It has the {{Empty category}} template. In the future, it's not impossible that pages may populate this category. The category must exist in order for pages to populate it. If the category is deleted and pages later are tagged with Expert Needed (in this specific topic), the category will not show as a redlinked one at the bottom of the article. See aslo CFD. I have restored this category. Per WP:ADMINACCT I would ask that you do not use your admin tools to delete pages unless you are willing to be accoutable, answer queries and revert when mistakes are made. Thanks —Martin (MSGJ·talk) 09:53, 22 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, MSGJ, message received. I got behind in reviewing my User talk page messages and responding to them. Thanks again for the help you provided. LizRead!Talk!18:12, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delay in responding to your query. I'm not sure what exactly "NS4 → NS0 Rs" are and I ran Quarry 79440 and I can't discern what the resulting list means. What are these pages? If you could help translating some of the coded information here, I'll try to keep out of your way. Thank you. LizRead!Talk!17:14, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
The query generates a list of redirects from the Wikipedia namespace (NS4) to the main namespace (NS0), e.g.
In most cases, the redirects are a result of a move from the user or draft namespace to the Wikipedia namespace before they get correctly moved to the main namespace. We used to delete them as db-error G6. I hardly ever run the query. Best, SamSailor18:05, 20 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I appreciate the attempt at an explanation but I still don't understand what these codes mean or when I can expect to encounter them. I don't know these numbers. I don't see many examples of pages being moved from User/Draft namespaces to the Wikipedia namespace. Most of the time, editors moving any pages into the project, Wikipedia namespace, are making a mistake. I can't think of a valid reason for a page move from User/Draft space to Wikipedia space. If we are not supposed to delete these mistakes as "errors", is there another CSD criteria that would be appropriate?
If you don't want to continue this discussion, that's fine with me. I was just chided for not responding to editors so I'm trying to do better even if the queries are from April. I hope you have a great summer! LizRead!Talk!00:46, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, LateNightCoffee,
I apologize for the delay in responding. It looks like all of these categories have been dealt with and this is not currently an outstanding problem. I think the message we were all trying to get across to you was to "Slow down" and not mass produce categories on a narrow topic. May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates
Latest comment: 6 months ago1 comment1 person in discussion
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
May 8–12: Discussion phase
May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on April 10. Please help translate.
Highlights
Annual Planning: The Wikimedia Foundation published the draft Annual Plan for the coming fiscal year (2026–2027) which will focus on four main goals that directly respond to the external trends. The goals include increasing our reach, deepening engagement, protecting our projects and building speed and resilience to enable the change needed to respond to the internet being at an inflection point. Feedback welcome on the talk page and many other places.
Sustainable reuse of Wikimedia content: The Attribution API is now in beta. It makes it easier to credit Wikimedia content fairly wherever it is used. It provides all information required by the Wikimedia Attribution Framework in a single, well-structured and easy-to-use endpoint, simplifying attribution for off-wiki reuse. Share your feedback on the project talk page.
Feedback on Article guidance: Experienced editors are invited to test the Article guidance feature. This tool helps less-experienced editors create structured, policy-compliant Wikipedia articles. Review the outlines and share your feedback on the project talk page. Check out the step-by-step and video instructions.
Games Hub available on Android: The Games Hub is live in the Wikipedia app for Android. This new feature offers a space for users to find all available games in one place, explore archives, and get updates on new games. It currently includes Which Came First?, with more games coming soon.
Update to Wikipedia app for iOS: A major update to the Wikipedia app for iOS has rolled out, redesigning the interface to align with Apple’s latest “Liquid Glass” visual design. Download the latest version and explore the update.
Confirming email addresses: On several wikis, logged-in editors who haven’t confirmed their email addresses now see a banner encouraging them to do so. Confirming the email address helps users restore account access if they lose it and receive messages about their accounts. It also provides an easy option to communicate with other users off-wiki if they choose. As of early 2026, about 62.9% of all registered Wikimedia user accounts that have an email set had not confirmed it.
Testing mobile web page previews: Mobile page previews experiment was launched on Arabic, English, French, Italian, Polish, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. Page previews are pop-ups that show a thumbnail, a lead paragraph, and a link to the full article to improve content discovery. It is already available on desktop and in the apps.
Account creation experiment: Account creation experiment is live on Hindi, Indonesian, Bengali, Thai, and Hebrew Wikipedia targeting 10% of logged-out mobile web users. It looks at whether adding a button to create accounts in the mobile web header boosts new registrations and increases mobile users contributing to the wikis.
Experimenting with Hybrid Search on mobile apps: The Hybrid Search Phase 1 experiment on the Wikipedia Android app has concluded. It tested a combined keyword and meaning-based search methods to meet various information needs. The team is analyzing data and feedback, and will share insights and next steps soon.
Top read element on the current Explore Feed on Android
Latest experiments: See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology. One upcoming experiment is testing a refreshed Explore Feed to make it easier for readers to discover interesting content and visit Wikipedia app more often.
Wikifunctions: Wikifunctions crossed 4,000 functions, with subtracting two complex numbers as the 4,000th function. Also, Abstract Wikipedia reached 1,000 articles. The article about the famous Indian Brahmin Chanakya marked this milestone.
Reading lists now a beta feature: New accounts are now opted into Reading lists by default on all Wikipedia wikis. This brings the "Save pages" feature to the web, which has been popular in mobile apps. For users in the beta, a "Save page" (bookmark) button appears in the toolbar on every page. The watch/unwatch (star) option moves to the tools menu. The "Watchlist" button in the top navigation shifts to the user menu. A new "Saved pages" button takes its place. In June, the feature will be available to all users and a user preference will be added to choose between two sets of buttons: Watch + Watchlist or Save + Saved list. The other set will be in the tool and user menus.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 16 and 17 include CodeMirror 6 being promoted out of beta on Tuesday, April 21. See also the 45 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Wikimedia Research Fund submissions in review: The submission period for this year's Wikimedia Research Fund is now closed. The technical and internal reviews of the proposals have begun.
Around the puzzle globe in the America region: More than 60 people joined America call to discuss the annual plan and the global trends impacting the movement. Participants came from across the region, and the audience included a mix of affiliates from LATAM, online contributors, and users with extended rights.
Transparency Report: The Wikimedia Foundation published a transparency report covering July to December 2025.
Board selection process: The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is reviewing and improving how it selects new members. The goal is to ensure that there is the right mix of expertise and community representation on the board. Join the conversation and share your ideas on the talk page.

Liz, I want to let you know that I have just completed a new page for John Fabian Carlson. I am letting your know this because I see that you previously deleted a page by the same name. I carefully listed the references for this page and I hope it meets with your approval. John Fabian Carlson was a significant artist in his day and I believe deserving of a quality Wikipedia page. Thank you. BuffaloBob (talk) BuffaloBob (talk) 14:46, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's hard to see why this article was deleted before. If it was moved at some point, some of the information might be in the page log at another page title. But as far as I see, there are no issues with your new article and it's been accepted. LizRead!Talk!17:08, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I do scans about 4 or 5 times a working day, looking for empty categories that should be tagged and I'm sorry I did one so soon after you created this category. As you can see, I untagged the category and it was not deleted. I apologize for the timing but it was a coincidence, I'm not stalking you or anyone else. LizRead!Talk!17:02, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
Arbitration
The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.

Hi Liz,
It looks like you deleted categories in this tree as part of maintenance. From my understanding that is because the categories were emptied due to this edit diff
There wasn't a discussion in WP:Schools to depreciate these categories, could you restore them? Please explain if I have misunderstood how the banner works. Aloneinthewild (talk) 18:41, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's not clear to me exactly what happened here because the category wasn't tagged as an CSD C1 empty category (even though it was one) so I don't know how I came across it. But it's now restored. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Please let me know if this has happened with other categories. We sometimes delete WikiProject empty categories if a Project is declared "defunct" or "inactive" but that's not what happened here. Again, my apologies. LizRead!Talk!19:05, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz. The reason I am trying to get this one deleted is because the project is not using BL-class on its assessment scale, so it will never be used. It may have been used in the past, but now they are using the standard scale, which does not contain BL (or CL or AL). Thanks —Martin (MSGJ·talk) 07:56, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't even know what "BL" is supposed to stand for! It looks like there dozens of BL-class categories. Should we bring this to CFD or just ignore this category and others like it? Who is in charge of decisions regarding assessment categories? LizRead!Talk!22:28, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Is there a way to maybe return this deleted draft and maybe stop deleting my drafts?
@Elias Ziade: There is indeed a way to stop deleting your drafts which is for you to make an edit to them, even one tiny edit, before six months goes by and they are deemed abandoned. BD2412T20:03, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, User:Jéské Couriano and User:BD2412 for helping out. Yes, el.ziade, articles that are in Draft space or in User space, IF they have AFC tags on them, are considered abandoned and "stale drafts" (G13) if they go six months without a human edit. So going through your drafts twice a year and making a minor edit would remove this problem. Just know that a article that is deleted simply for being stale (G13 or U6) can usually be restored at WP:REFUND upon request. Happy editing! LizRead!Talk!22:23, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I apologize for the delay. Draft:L'orgue mystique was due to be deleted as a stale draft CSD G13 and I made a tagging mistake. Usually we only mark drafts as tests if they are blank pages and this clearly had some work put into it. I'm sorry but I sometimes handle hundreds of stale drafts a day and can make a mistake or two. I've restore it for you so you should have another six months. You might want to move the draft into User space where it won't be as easily subject to the G13 bot's rules. Good luck with your editing! LizRead!Talk!22:18, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on April 25. Please help translate.
Highlights
Community Protection: Wikimedia Foundation secured Indonesian government’s commitment to user safety, privacy, and content integrity ahead of administrative registration in Indonesia.
Stronger protections against bots: Wikimedia Foundation is replacing our CAPTCHA with a new approach to detect bad-faith activities without making things harder for users.
Transparency Report: The Wikimedia Foundation has published its latest Transparency Report. This provides an overview of the work to protect Wikimedia projects and support the volunteer communities who handle the majority of content requests. Our users trust us to protect their identities against unlawful disclosure, and we take this responsibility seriously, granting only 1 of 30 requests for disclosure we received from July to December 2025.
Reading Challenge: As part of the 25th birthday celebrations, Wikipedia Mobile Apps launched a limited-time feature, the 25-day reading challenge with Baby Globe. This challenge encourages a daily habit of reading one Wikipedia article. The goal is to motivate users to come back to the app regularly.
Latest experiments: One upcoming experiment is introducing the Incident Reporting System (IRS) to help contributors easily find the right place to seek help when facing harassment or other issues. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Change in how new users are autoconfirmed: The account age for autoconfirmed users will now start from their first edit, not the registration date. This is to avoid exploitation by vandals. This change will only apply to wikis that require at least one edit for autoconfirmation.
Organized Reading lists: All Wikipedia users with new accounts and those who activated the “automatically enable most beta features” option can now use the reading lists beta feature. This lets you save articles for later reading and keep it organized in one place for easy access.
Thumbnail size preferences: Default thumbnail size preference for article content is now limited to three sizes: Small (180px), Regular (250px), and Large (400px). This change aims to improve performance and reduce strain on thumbnail services. Current preferences will shift to the nearest new size.
Wikifunctions: To make the development of Abstract Wikipedia visible, the Foundation is requesting your input: which metrics about Abstract Wikipedia pages do you deem important?
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 18 and 19 include improvements on Global Watchlist. See also the 62 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Wikimania: Wikimania is a joyful event. It is a chance to celebrate our community and projects, share ideas and information, build connections among Wikimedians, and inspire and develop future projects. If you and your community are interested in hosting Wikimania in 2028 and 2029 submit an expressions of interest.
Community Conferences: The Foundation is supporting 15 strategic, diverse, and critical convenings taking place in 2026 and 2027, bringing together approximately 1800 Wikimedians across various regions, themes, and language communities.
Don't blink: The latest developments from around the world about protecting the Wikimedia model, its people and its values.
Wiki Loves Monuments: The winners of the 2025 Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest are announced.
Wikinews closure: All Wikinews have been closed and switched to read-only mode. Content will remain accessible, but no new edits or articles will be able to be added. This closure was approved by the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation following extended discussions.
For information about the Bulletin and to read previous editions, see the project page on Meta-Wiki. Let foundationbulletinwikimedia.org know if you have any feedback or suggestions for improvement!
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Hey, I've noticed that you deleted my sandbox page. I was wondering if you could restore my page since I was working on those drafts. If you can't restore the page, can you at least provide an alternative to restore said page, if not secure it? Rager7 (talk) 00:50, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. The history of this page is hard to follow as it has changed titles and namespaces several times but I can offer some advice in general to editors who use their User space a lot.
Primarily, do not put any AFC tags on your drafts until it is time to submit them to AFC for a review. We have a very efficient bot, User:DreamRimmer and if any page in Draft space or pages in User space with AFC go six months without an editor working on them, they are tagged for speedy deletion as a stale draft, CSD G13. If there are no AFC tags on a draft in User space, the bot will not bother them. So, you are going to be working on a draft over a long period of time and you know that you won't be submitting it for a while, just leave off any AFC tags until that time comes. OR, and this might be better, make sure that every few months, you make an edit on each draft you have and the bot will ignore them. It doesn't have to be a big edit, just some act that will cause the bot to believe you are working on the page.
But if this happens again and a page in Draft or User space gets deleted simply for being left alone too long like G13 or U6 (and no other reason), know that you can go to WP:REFUND and ask for it to be restored. As far as broken redirects go, I'm not sure what happened there but just remove the broken redirect content as soon as you are aware of it and things should be fine. Happy editing! Hello Liz,
New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026
Backlog update
At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.
After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.
2024 and 2025 NPP Awards
JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.
Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.
The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.
An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.

Hey, I am preparing a revised draft regarding Shubham Singh (industrialist) following the earlier deletion discussion. Since the previous draft, additional independent coverage has appeared in publications including Business Today, Outlook India, and other media covering Bihar’s ethanol sector and industrial activity.
I have substantially rewritten the article to remove promotional language, and better align with Wikipedia’s notability and neutrality guidelines. I also intend to disclose a conflict of interest while submitting through AfC.
Before resubmitting, I was asked to contact you, can you please help if i can submit though AFC or not?
Thank You. Vijaysinghrajput (talk) 15:37, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can you undelete that draft to restore the editing history? Once it appeared on my watchlist with the bot's G13 tag, I started editing it to clean it up. Sometime while I did that, it appears you deleted it, so my copy edit recreated the draft, but the attribution history has been lost. Imzadi1979→19:39, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm very sorry for my delay in responding. This week is "Catch up with User Talk page messages Week". It's been a while since I've run into you and I hope you are well.
So, this article has a complicated history. When it was an article, it was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al-Shami and the decision was to turn it into a redirect. Over time, an editor decided to turn it from a redirect back into an article. Later, another editor, inappropriately, I think, moved this newly created article back to Draft space even though I think the article was too old to do so. I think it should have been reverted back into a Redirect which was the AFD decision unless that decision was contested and consensus had changed.
So, after months of inactivity, this forgotten draft was due to be deleted CSD G13 for being a stale draft. Since for years it served a purpose as a redirect, I decided rather than delete the draft, I'd restore it back to its redirect status, according to the AFD. I have no stake in this page and whether or not the community wants to delete this redirect or move it back to Draft space is up to your good decision. I will post a link at the RFD to my comments here.

Hi, I have a problem with a user and he suggested I should have talk to you about it. there was a discussion here about redirecting a page. I wasn't involved at the time, didn't know such discussion is happening. 5 months later when the discussion was done and nobody had redirected the page, I removed the tag and improve the page to make it better. now someone insists on redirecting that page because of the discussion in 2024. so what should I do now? how I can undo the redirect or re-open the discussion. sorry if this is not your business but I didn't know who else to ask this. thanks Sports2021 (talk) 21:37, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is not a quick and easy fix because what you are asking for is a reevaluation of an AFD decision which are often seen as final. I see two options and you can try either one but not at the same time.
You can go to RFD and ask to undo the redirection decision of Soft tennis at the 2022 Asian Games – Mixed doubles. I'm not a regular at RFD but I know sometimes a redirect is restored to an article and resubmitted to AFD for a review. This is a little risky because if your version of the article is not accepted, that is kind of a second final decision.
The other option is to take the content you wrote and create Draft:Soft tennis at the 2022 Asian Games – Mixed doubles and submit it to AFC. This is the only way I know of that can overturn an AFD decision and doing it this way would allow you to work on improving the draft article before it is submitted.
But please do not get into an edit war with editors and keep restoring the article in main space back into an article and have other editor undo your changes. They are acting according to policy and it could end up going to WP:ANEW and you could end up sanctioned. Take the slower but safer routed. If your version IS approved, that would be much more secure. Good luck! LizRead!Talk!21:05, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't notice your answer until now, Thanks a lot for your time and your advice. looks like I should go the second path and create a draft article. just out of curiosity I'm a bit confused, if an AFD decision results in deletion, someone can easily re-create the article and it needs another AFD to get it deleted again but looks like undoing a redirect is much more complicated than deletion, I assumed It should be vice-versa. again thanks for your time. Liz, this draft I had worked on for more than 3 months. I kept on adding content with an aim to make it article-ready in a year or so, after being reviewed by administrators.
Some editor whose contribution logs are suspicious, changed the draft, and moved the page to Articles, which was deleted and rightly so.
I request you to restore the version that was there before this user edited my version and then shifted this draft to articles, or help me by sending the version in some manner. MumbaiUser123 (talk) 19:33, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
First, I deleted broken redirects so actually, I have never directed this article or a draft version. But you are right, the draft shouldn't have been moved to main space. Another version was deleted through an AFD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ashwin Srivastava and the only way that deletion can be overcome is to create a better draft version and submit to AFC for review.
As far as restoring your version, I think we need to ask User:Seraphimblade who actually did the deletion which was for CSD G11 promotional content. You can go to their User talk page and inquire there of maybe they will reply here. The situation is that MumbaiUser123 was working on a draft version and an inexperienced editor moved it to main space where it was deleted. Seraphimblade, how would you feel about restoring the article back to Draft space and let MumbaiUser123 continue to improve it and submit it for AFC review? You have protected the main space title so it can't be moved again until it's been approved. What do you think? LizRead!Talk!20:49, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I looked at the last version of the draft which was being written by MumbaiUser123, as it's generally my practice to look at prior versions of articles I delete under G11, since if one can revert to a non-spam version that is preferred over G11 deletion. That was still a G11-level CV, and I oppose restoring it to any namespace. My general offer, with advertisements, is that I will provide a list of the sources used in the deleted version to any editor who wants them, but I will not restore any of the text since that will need a total rewrite. I would stand by that here. SeraphimbladeTalk to me21:15, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's great to hear — I'd love to meet you if you have the time! You may want to register for the event just in case, so you get any emails I might need to send to the participants. Hope to see you there.:) —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:21, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:ADMINACCT, all of these requests require a response from you. There are some other outstanding threads which I think you ought to respond to, but a response is not required by ADMINACCT.
I don't want this to go to AN, let alone recall or ArbCom. But this is a problem, and I hope you will take the time to address it. I remain deeply appreciative of all the work you do for Wikipedia, and please let me know if I can be helpful in any way. Best regards, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they)19:56, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
You are totally right. This is bad. I've alway been slow to respond on my user talk page over the years but I just neglected it and busied myself with other tasks. Part of this is that when I do communicate, it's not with one sentence but often with paragraphs of content. Also, I've had some stressful issues (health, housing, etc.) in my offline life that has caused me to want to reduce time spent communicating with others but that's never an excuse for admin accountability. I'll get started on this today and over the next few days I'll have responded to them all. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to my attention as a friend instead of a drill sargeant. And I apprexiate you, too. LizRead!Talk!20:33, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for responding to a some messages! I'm going to be kind by being direct here, because I don't want this to escalate further. You archived some of the aforementioned requests without responding to them (if I've got it right, they're question numbers 2–7). Given it's been so long since they were asked, perhaps you could follow up on the users' talk pages? There are also many unarchived, outstanding questions, and I'd strongly encourage you to devote your energies to replying to them rather than doing more admin tasks, like G13s or C1s. There's over 800 admins who can do that work, but you're the only one who can answer these questions. Again, I appreciate all you do. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they)07:00, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't archive the page to avoid the questions, I did so because I receive regular complaints that my User talk page is too full and to please clean it out. But I will do as you ask. I thought I made a good start replying to a couple dozen messages at the beginning of the week but I also have off-line demands to tend to that have serious consequences for me. I appreciate the follow-up and I will, of course, take your advice. Thank you. LizRead!Talk!16:27, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz. I am a survivor of a terrible accident but as a conten-driven user I am very relaxed about editing, and categorizing. It has been a while since I have been able to access the internet. Can I ask you a question? Because the recent speedy deletions seems strange to me in my discussion, sent by you. We are a global movement. But I cannot understand this. With Regards. Sazwar (talk) 08:02, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You are going to have to be more specific here because I can't answer your questions without some additional information. Can you provide me with some titles of deleted pages? And who is "we"? Thank you. LizRead!Talk!16:52, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey Liz again. I think some categories are intentionally has been emptied in advance so that they can be quickly deleted. For example, why is there no social writer in Iran or Iraq? I added some categories myself. In my opinion, it is better to give the MENA region more time to develop its subcategories. Isn't that better? Sazwar (talk) 03:34, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please do not adopt a conspiracy mindset. Most editors on Wikipedia have a limited time they can spend editing here and focus on subjects they care about, not sabotaging other areas. The fact of the matter is that most people have a narrow set of issues they are interested in and subjects that you care a lot about may not be areas of interest in them. The hardest problem we have is attracting editors to spend their time on topics that are important and significant but that not many people want to devote their free time to. If you can reach out to other editors who share your interests through, for example, participation in a WikiProject, then our coverage generally rises in quality. Thank you for your interest in editing on this project. LizRead!Talk!03:54, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz, I hope you’re having a good day. I’ve been working on the Sahnioxylon rajmahalense article, and I noticed that most of the content actually describes the genus Sahnioxylon rather than just the species. I’m considering whether it might be more appropriate to move the page to Sahnioxylon and reorganize it at the genus level. I’d really appreciate any thoughts you’re willing to share.
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about this subject matter to offer an educated opinion. I encourage you to review the advice at Wikipedia:Requested moves so you can see whether a move is appropriate and whether you should file a request for another editor to handle the move. Also, the Teahouse is a great place to go with questions like this becuase more experienced editors review questions there so you'll have more editors who know about article moves offering you advice. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck! LizRead!Talk!16:58, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
13 years ago I added and removed a category from this page which I don't consider a "rescue" but maybe you are just teasing me. Why did you undelete the empty draft categories after deleting them yourself? They have been empty and unused for a fairly long while and serve no purpose when there are far more feasible parent cats available. These are just a waste of space and overcategorization. I fail to see how retaining these is beneficial to the encycloepdia when most are for drafts of very specific subjects. —Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs)01:39, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Adding onto that, much like drafts, we should not retain these categories in the hopes that someone makes drafts to populate them. Some of these cats only have one or a couple entries, not nearly enough to justify their existence. —Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs)01:40, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I had an accident yesterday where I mass deleted all of the empty categories in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion. They are supposed to sit there for 7 days to give editors time to check them before they are deleted because sometimes they are emptied "out of process". If you look at the deletion rationale for that deletion on 6/7, you'll see that it had an incorrect CSD criteria that I actually needed to use on a different page. I've been an admin for 11 years but I have only made this particular mistake once before years ago. So, my solution was to revert all of those category and category talk page deletions.
If those categories are still empty 7 days after they were tagged, they will be deleted, I assure you. But what you are responding to was a mistake on my part and edits that I made to "fix" it. I'm sorry if this was confusing. Please know though that categories that are deleted purely for being empty (CSD C1) can be recreated by any editor who thinks there is a current use for them so they can always be recreated in the future. This is not true for categories deleted through Categories for Discussion but it is true for empty categories. I hope this explanation is adequate, it was a rare incident and just happened to affect empty categories you tagged for speedy deletion. LizRead!Talk!17:08, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on May 8. Please help translate.
Highlights
Community Wishlist discussion: Product & Technology introduced changes meant to increase the number and complexity of wishes fulfilled, including the disbanding of the Community Tech team. They are engaging in discussions about a proposed direction for the wishlist from community members. Includes ways to structure annual voting, better tracking of wishes, removing focus areas, and staffing updates.
Digital Public Goods: The Wikimedia Foundation has become a member of the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA).
Better bot detection: A trial of hCaptcha on several Wikipedias, including English, French, and Japanese, showed it can effectively detect and deter bad-faith automated activity, on its own and by giving checkusers and stewards signals to look into. Based on these results, hCaptcha will be rolled out across all wikis. See the project page for technical information about the implementation and privacy protections.
Example of the Attribution Framework recommendations.
A better way to give credit: The Wikimedia Attribution Framework and API makes it simple for developers to fairly credit volunteer contribution. When anyone encounters Wikimedia content, we want them to know that it comes from our projects, and they are invited to participate.
Baby Globe joins the Reading Challenge: The Android and iOS Wikipedia apps released the 25-day reading challenge, to drive readers engagement through reading milestones. To track their reading streak during the challenge, users can add a widget featuring Baby Globe to their home screen.
Account security: The Foundation is technically enforcing that all privileges that enable users to take security- or privacy-sensitive actions can only be held by users who have enabled two-factor authentication. Logging in with passkeys is quicker than logging in without two-factor authentication. In addition, logged-in users can see a banner encouraging them to confirm their email address. These changes secure individual accounts as well as communities and the wikis.
Incident reporting form: The Foundation began a trial on English Wikipedia of the incident reporting form. 60% of unblocked logged-in users see a new Report button, allowing them to report conduct issues.
Encouraging account creation: Following a successful account creation experiment, an improved logged-out edit warning message will be deployed to all Wikimedia wikis this week. The change will only affect logged-out users on mobile web who open an editing session.
Wikimedia Android App: The Wikipedia Android App is at the Phase 1 of redesigning its Home Feed. The new feed includes two tabs: Community, featuring refreshed Explore content, and For You, with personalized reading recommendations based on reader interests and activity. The For You feed refreshes daily with updated suggestions.
Reading Lists feature: The Foundation is conducting an experiment to show the reading lists feature, which is still in development, to logged-out mobile readers to test whether it encourages account creation at a higher rate compared to the watchstar button. The experiment was launched on May 18 on German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Turkish, and Urdu wikis, and will run for a month.
A design mockup of what the share card looks like.
Testing Suggestion Mode: Suggestion Mode was released as an A/B test for newcomer editors on the mobile website at ~15 Wikipedias. The experiment will measure its impact on the proportion of newcomer mobile web edit sessions that result in constructive (un-reverted) article edits. It will also evaluate the feature’s impact on editor retention and monitor changes in revert and block rates.
Wikifunctions now supports Wikidata references: References in Wikidata statements are now available on Wikifunctions, and you now can use external links in Wikifunctions-generated citations. This allows the use of more than 1.3 billion references available in Wikidata and adding them as citations to individual statements in Abstract Wikipedia.
Pilot wikis adopting Abstract Wikipedia: The Abstract Wikipedia team has identified five potential pilot wikis to assess their interest in adopting abstract articles on their wikis. The pilots are Malayalam, Bengali, Dagbani, Arabic, and Indonesian Wikipedia. If your community is interested in becoming a pilot, let us know on Meta.
Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment is testing whether we can serve readers better when a footnote click in read mode shows the full bibliographic information rather than flying them to the reference list. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 20, 21, 22, 23 include an experiment to test a new Share Card feature that allows readers to create visually engaging cards from Wikipedia articles and share them online See also the 92 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Tech blog moved to Diff: The migration of the Techblog to Diff is now complete: 138 posts going back over a decade have been successfully migrated. Diff is now happy to welcome technology-focused blog posts with renewed vigor.
What’s new in the Wikipedia Library: Access to the American Psychological Association was renewed and collections from the Harvard Business Review and Swiss Media Database (Swissdox) are now available to editors who are eligible for The Wikipedia Library.
New course on WikiLearn: A free self-paced online course, designed for researchers who want to make their field more visible on Wikipedia, was launched on WikiLearn. Share "Wikipedia for Researchers” if you work with early-career researchers, teach in an academic institution, or support open knowledge communities.
Wiki Mentor Africa: The first edition of Wiki Mentor Africa - Women Tech Summit brought together over 315 registered participants across Africa to learn, explore, and grow in tech together.
Let's Connect Learning Clinic: If you missed it, you can now watch the recording of the Let's Connect Learning Clinic "How to support up-and-coming groups in the movement as a long-time Wikimedian" with Wikimedistas El Salvador.
Sharing the Form 990s: The Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia Endowment published their Form 990s, covering the fiscal year that ran from July 2024 to June 2025. The Form 990 is an annual form required of all nonprofit organizations in the United States. You can read the highlights on Form 990 for the Foundation and Form 990 for the Endowment on Meta-Wiki.
Wikimedia Enterprise: Wikimedia Enterprise's free API accounts gets a substantial upgrade across the Snapshot and On-demand APIs, including free access to Structured Contents Snapshots.
Board selection process: The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is reviewing and improving how it selects new members. The goal is to ensure that there is the right mix of expertise and community representation on the board. Join the conversation on 16 June at 17:00 UTC, and share your ideas on the talk page.

I think you could also try explaining to the editor how the policies and practice instruct us what to do with these matters instead of seeking sanctions. Have you referred them to policy pages so they could learn to do things correctly? You might try it.
We don't block on command. We try to talk out differences of opinion unless there is obvious vandalism and pointing to an article isn't sufficient. Have you communicated with the editor what the disagreement is on their User talk page? Have you started a discussion on the article talk page? Give it a try you might find you two agree on other points.

There are assertions of more recent sources proving notability, and the Polish wiki version lists several awards and distinctions. I don't know whether these meet the bar for notability on the English wiki, but this probably merits a discussion. If the Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion, I don't know why you are expecting a response from Liz. She properly deleted the article based on the discussion at the time, if Liz does not have the authority to undelete because this needs a consensus at Wikipedia:Deletion review that significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify undeleting the page, and previously deleted content may be helpful for writing a new version of the page – provided that an administrator declined undeleting the page and their decision is being challenged why does the administrator assessing the new information need to be the same admin who deleted it? I would be happy to undelete and move it to draft space for AfC review. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:21, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I take lists of empty categories from here and tag them. They then sit in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion for 7 days so do not worry, as soon as the articles start showing up in the currently empty categories, we remove the tags. Hello, thank you for your action regarding that attack page and your warning here. I do want to correct you, though -- the page creations on that specific individual have not been going on for nearly two decades. The person you are thinking of is a completely different harassment victim, albeit one whose specific, appalling victimization on the internet is somewhere up the family tree from this particular case. Just wanted to mention, even if it is probably just a silly nitpick on my part at the end of the day. Thank you for your help. JeffSpaceman (talk) 01:40, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I thought the online focus on this person had been going on for that butmany years I might have mixed them up with the other target U see, Chris (I don't recall his last name but it's a minor point). Thanks for the additional information.
Go ahead and nitpick, I don't mind the first one! I hope this doesn't escalate but if that happened, it might become an issue but we still could talk about it. Thanks for keeping your eye out and knowing that this was a controversial issue and not an ordinary BLP. LizRead!Talk!01:49, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Of course -- once again, I appreciate your help here. To be honest, I think that WP:HARVIC is doing a lot of good at pre-empting arguments about potential notability of controversial, perennial attack BLP subjects like this (not that I see much in the way of notability in this particular case, as opposed to the other one you and I allude to here).
Regarding the photo, that's your call. Someimes it's best not to draw any more attention to a subject. And I do not recall whether it's a file on Wikipedia or if it's at the Commons. I don't spend much time on the Commons unless it's really an urgent issue, I'm not very familiar with how the process works there. I trust your judgment. LizRead!Talk!02:30, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I may pursue getting it removed from Commons later (I believe it is in the public domain), but I'll do that on later time if I feel like it. I've gotten some images removed there for violations, and I may do the same with that one. JeffSpaceman (talk) 02:45, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Simplifying account creation: The Foundation is working on improving the account creation process to reduce potential friction for newcomers to create an account. Improvements include making "Create Account" icon more prominent on mobile, simplifying the registration form, and introducing real-time username validation.
New U4C members elected: The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) has new members and has two remaining vacancies in Middle East & North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Wikimania conference program: The Wikimania 2026 program is now live! Take a moment to review the program, and, if you are logged in, you can mark your "must see” sessions with a star to start building your personal schedule. Register for a virtual ticket here, if you haven't signed up yet.

App Explore feed: The redesigned App Explore feed, now called "Home", has been released to all Android users. The update introduces a refreshed feed experience along with the first set of new content modules, including Did You Know, Places of Interest, Random Article, and a new end-of-feed experience. Additional content and improvements are planned in future releases.
Wikipedia games: The Which came first? daily trivia game is now available in the beta version of the Wikipedia iOS app in English, German, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Turkish. The game uses historical events from Wikipedia’s “On This Day” content and challenges readers to guess which of two events happened first.
Reusing references: Sub-referencing, a new MediaWiki feature that allows editors to reuse references with different details, has been rolled out to Group 1 wikis and French Wikipedia following a successful pilot phase.
Article guidance: The Article guidance feature is being tested with some editors creating new articles on the Simple English, French, and Turkish Wikipedias. The experiment will soon begin on the Arabic and Bangla Wikipedias as well. The outlines guide less experienced editors in creating high-quality articles. A quick guide to markups used in outlines can be found on this page. Example outlines that can be adapted and instructions for how to adapt them are on this section of the project page.
Mobile Page Previews: The Page Previews experiment on mobile web has concluded with the decision not to roll out the feature. The results showed no statistically significant impact on reader retention – the primary success metric. Page Previews, which are already available on desktop and in the apps, display a thumbnail, lead paragraph, and link to the full article when readers tap a blue link.

There was a consensus to delete at CfD. I don't think it's appropriate to retroactively annul the result of a discussion as you are proposing here absent some sort of procedural error -- allowing this would render the act of closing a discussion meaningless. * Pppery *in solidarity03:29, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I just saw you nominate Category:Stub-Class River articles for speedy deletion due to it being empty. And in fact it looks like all of the categories under Category:River articles by quality have suddenly become empty. Which seems to be some kind of systemic issue, and most likely an error of some sort? I haven't seen any mention of stopping using article classes in Wikipedia:WikiProject Rivers, and the table of River articles by class (User:WP_1.0_bot/Tables/Project/River), populated from those categories, was still showing tens of thousands of articles using these categories when it was last updated on June 23. I have added some discussion on the project page (</nowiki>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rivers#What_happened_to_the_article_classes?) to try to figure things out. Meanwhile I think it might be best not to speedy delete these categories. (At the very least, if they are to be deleted in favour of another means of categorizing articles, then that should probably be done systematically to all of those categories, rather than one at a time. Thanks! -Kieran (talk) 21:11, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
We have lots of problems with WikiProject article categories. We generally leave them alone but, for some unknown reason, this specific category popped up on the the Empty Category list that we run every few hours. I can't tell you why this one and not the others appeared. Sometimes it gets off the list by posting several "Don't delete this even if it's empty" tags on the page and that's what I'll try. We do occasionally delete a WikiProject's article assessment categories if a) all of the article categories are empty, not just a few and b) the WikiProject has been tagged as defunct or inactive. This usually takes years of inactivity to happen which is not what happened here.
We have another, associated problem of assessment banners on the article talk page NOT leading to that article to be placed in article assessment categories which seems like the problem here. Sometimes, it just takes a few days to happen. But if you have further questions, the editor I know who knows the most about this weird category glitch is MSGJ. Most admins and editors are more focused on content-related issues so these quirks receive less attention but MSGJ has spent time looking into this issue. I'll also mention but not link Pppery because they are knowledgeable about the inner workings of the project but I don't think they have spent as much time looking at WikiProjects as MSGJ has.
I apologize for the delay in responding to your message. To be honest, I don't understand how Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working works and I don't go through the CFD daily logs.
I come across the results of a closed CFD nomination because throughout the day I run https://empty-categories.toolforge.org/ and many CFD closures involve emptying categories. My focus has been on tagging empty categories and then I some times need to work backwards to find a relevant CFD nomination if I have questions.
If I understood better how User:JJMC89 bot III functions and the Working page operates, I would start taking action and closing CFD discussions. If you had a moment to explain this to me, I could probably be more useful in that area of the project. But honestly, my focus up until now has been on tagging empty categories, not closing CFD discussions. LizRead!Talk!03:47, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
When a discussion is closed it is either done by an admin or a non-admin. The admin will list the category at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working and then a bot will automatically process it. However that page is fully admin protected because of past abuse. If a non-admin closes it they list the category at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion/Working and then in due course an admin will put it on the main page. This can sometimes take a few days as backlogs pile up. If a category is being emptied and deleted in the meantime it would help to remove it from the list there. Thanks. Yeah, it is genuinely irritating when people create categories by using preformatted templates that autogenerate and transclude parent categories, but then fail to follow through on creating whatever redlinks result from that so that it falls on the category cleanup crew (which means me a fair bit of the time) to fix it. I really wish the people who insist on farming everything off to preformatted templates would make more use of #ifexist when it comes to the categories, but asking them to be more conscientious about that hasn't really solved the problem either. So I guess it's good to know that other people get it. Bearcat (talk) 23:12, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I consider you a one editor clean up crew! The task of removing red link categories shouldn't all fall to you but it seems like that's what happens. I'm not sure about other admins but I've picked up some tasks that I'd like to share with others but when the work piles up, people tend to act rather than wait until others notice the problem. Good afternoon! I'm a woman in her late 20s who's just exhausted honestly. This person keeps harassing me. Username "Deposing A Fraud." As you can see, Rsjaffe removed their edit summary and blocked them for harassment.
I was just wondering if my edit summary of "Fair enough, not awkward though" on May 5th can be removed too because that's the target of all the harassment I've been receiving. This person has shared my phone number and the sort and I just if that edit summary was removed as well I'd finally be able to not feel so scared coming on this site anymore, knowing the target of the harassment is gone and potentially more people won't be coming on here to harass me. That would mean the world to me and I can share my story about how Wikipedia truly came through for me when I was desperate and scared and needed it most I'm just so tired and want it all to end. Thank you! ~~2026-38137-10 (talk) 03:06, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is the 4th message like this that you have left on an admin's User talk page. It's best to reach out to one administrator and see how they respond instead of posting the same request for help to multiple people. Since Rsjaffe helped you out with the edit summary is there a reason you didn't follow up with them about this incident?
I'm sorry if you are feeling harrassed but can you point out where this editor shared your phone number or any other personal information? That is much more serious than an edit summary saying "Fair enough" as I can't see how that could anger anyone enough to pester you. That is clearly damaging content we should remove from the platform. My personal suggestion is please do not believe the rantings and threats of online trolls. Their goal is to get you upset and then they move on to annoy others. LizRead!Talk!03:25, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on June 19. Please help translate.
This edition uses the new annual plan goals for this fiscal year (July 2026–June 2027).
Highlights
Wikipedia 25: Wikipedia's 25th birthday was celebrated with various projects designed to grow awareness and support for Wikipedia and the people who make it possible. This includes the virtual birthday event on January 15, which garnered 10,000 live viewers and 15,000 reactions. Find more details on all related projects and results in the program report.
Sustainable use of Wikimedia infrastructure: A valid user-agent string will now be required for automated dumps downloads from the dumps.wikimedia.org website. Automated requests that provide a generic or empty user-agent will be blocked. This extends enforcement of the long standing user-agent policy. Access to dumps through Wikimedia Cloud Services will not change.
Increasing account creation: The experiment providing direct access to “Create account” and “Log in” actions on mobile increased account creation by about 20% without negatively affecting edit quality. The feature will now be rolled out to all wikis on mobile web.
With Sub-referencing editors can reuse and add details to a main reference.
Add A Link: The Foundation deployed Add A Link as a default-on suggestion within Suggestion Mode. It is now launched on all wikis to all editors who have opted in to the Suggestion Beta Feature.
Reusing references: Sub-referencing, the new MediaWiki feature that allows editors to reuse references with different details, was deployed to most small and medium-sized Wikipedia language versions.
Wikifunctions: Check out the 71 new functions with implementations to get a taste of what functions have been created.
Range calculator: The special page Special:RangeCalculator has been created. It allows users to find an IP range without needing to rely on external tools. Until now, this tool was only available to CheckUsers.
Captcha verification: Abuse filters that are set to “require CAPTCHA verification” now also affect users with the skipcaptcha right, which includes most autoconfirmed users. Bots are exempted. This change only affects edits that trigger an abuse filter.
Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment is testing two variations of a "thank you" badge shown to donors after a recent donation to deepen the relationship between donors and the Wikimedia movement. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Account security on private wikis: Two-factor authentication will become mandatory for user accounts on private wikis. This will protect private information from being exposed by an account with a compromised password.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 26 and 27 include users will now get a notification when they are blocked or unblocked from editing, or if this block changes. See also the 65 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Team Challenges: The core organizing team for Wikimania is introducing Team Challenges, a different approach to Wikimania Hackathon. This year, Wikimedians and professionals from other fields will join forces to undertake one of the 2026 technical challenges.
Wikimedia Hackathon: A look at the 2026 edition of Wikimedia Hackathon which brought together 216 participants from 29 countries building, collaborating, and shaping the future together.
Wikimedia Hubs: The Hub Fund will pause funding for new pilots in fiscal year 2026–2027 to align with the work on the Ecosystem of Movement Organizations and the Global Resource Distribution Committee. Existing pilots in transition will be offered an additional year of funding.
Open Knowledge And Digital Rights: Wikimedians shared their reflections on how Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum reinforced the role of our movement within broader digital rights conversations.
Journalism Award: Wikimedia Foundation announced three journalists from Africa as recipients of the Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards, run in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). The awards celebrate the essential role journalists play in creating well-researched articles that volunteer editors can use as source materials to develop content on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. In total, 320 submissions were received from 40 African countries.

Hi Liz, I hope you're well. I saw that you deleted the category Category:Afghan dancers after I recreated it, and the reason stated was because it was previously deleted because of this discussion. I disagree here. The discussion about the category previously deleted it because it was a "single-article category" and "Single article categories hinder navigation". However, the category was no longer a single-article category when I recreated it, so that rationale no longer applies. Category:21st-century Afghan dancers was a subcategory of the now-deleted category, and it has two pages in it (with potential for more to arrive when more pages are made). Because of that, I think the category should be undeleted. Thanks for your time. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 02:15, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delay in responding, I see that you went ahead and recreated the category I deleted via CSD G4. I'm going to ping User:Smasongarrison and see what they think about this situation.
Ordinarily, we point editors wanting to recreate pages that have been deleted through deletion discussions (like CFD, AFD, etc.) to [[Wikipedia:Deletion review]|Deletion review] so that the closure can be reconsidered in light of new information but categories are their own, weird little universe that I find troublesome as there is no "Draft space" where editors can retry the content creation and have it be reviewed. It seems like a lot of bureaucracy to have a week-long discussion over a category that only concerns a handful of article. But, I'm undecided so I've told you what I understand the "rules" say and see what Smasongarrison because they have a great knowledge blend of policy and common sense. In other words, I could go either way. LizRead!Talk!23:17, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @ArtemisiaGentileschiFan. I think the fundamental issue is that there still do not seem to be enough dancers to support this category tree. You created Category:21st-century Afghan dancers with two articles in it, and then used that child category as the reason Category dancers was no longer a single-article category.
But that seems to change the structure without really addressing the concern from the earlier discussion, which was that the category did not add enough navigational value. So I am curious why you think this particular category tree is needed now. What does it help readers find that the existing categories do not?
You seem quite invested in recreating it despite the feedback from the deletion discussion, so I would like to better understand what you see as the benefit.
Hi, thanks for the response. It was my understanding that the category was deleted specifically because it had only one article, and that single-article categories were non-useful. I thought that having multiple articles in the category addressed this issue. If I was wrong in that assumption, I apologize. I don't think I'm particularly "invested" in the category, I just thought that the deletion was no longer necessary. If I'm wrong, that's fine, and I won't put up a fight to stop it from being deleted again. I suppose this was a misunderstanding on my part. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 01:31, 10 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
That makes sense. There's nothing to apoligize about or fight for. I'm more trying to understand what your goal is with the category tree, and help get a better sense of the category. Do you think that there are more pages out there that could belong in the category. There's nothing preventing recreation if there's a critical mass of pages. Right now the consensus is that two also isn't enough because those pages can just be interlinked.SMasonGarrison02:34, 10 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad I called you in, Smasongarrison. My personal opinion is colored by the fact that I think the system makes it incredibly difficult to review past CFD closures. Considering that there are probably less than a dozen editors who regularly participate in CFD discussions makes it challenging to file appeals against decisions to possibly overturn old closures.
On the one hand, there is policy, and on the other hand there are the demands of creating appropriate, well-written articles and categories. That's why I deleted your recreation of the category as a CSD G4 but I'm sympathetic to you, the category creator. It's almost as if the only solution is to create a new category with a different page title which fulfills what you want to do, ArtemisiaGentileschiFan, but goes against the spirit of the rules as they have been created and maintained. Hey Liz!
Awhile ago you deleted and salted Magicore Anomala because it was a redirect to a user space which is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I was the editor in question that mistakenly made that redirect. I originally put the page in the main space but was then told it violated Wikipedia:TOOSOON, so I attempted a series of blundered moves before I finally moved the article to the correct place in my user space. Firstly, sorry for leaving such a mess behind, I have now learned how to move correctly (and realized I could've just blanked the auto generated redirect) and won't make the same mistake again.
I wanted to know if it's possible to unsalt the article to make it easier to move back to the main space when it no longer violates WP:TOOSOON.It's unlikely the article will be improperly made again since I was the only editor doing so (and that was very silly of me Self-trout), and I won't be moving it anymore until a FINAL move back to main space when the time is right. At any rate I respect your decision on the matter. Thank you for your time. Wik206 (talk) 01:33, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done The protection was really directed at you since you kept making the same mistake over and over again. I'm glad that it got your attention and you looked more into the policy we have here. Happy editing and if you have further questions, I recommend bringing them to the Teahouse, your post will get a more prompt response there. LizRead!Talk!23:04, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Out of curiosity, where (presumably) did those redirect to? Secondly, would you throw those to subpages of my userspace if either contain anything worthwhile content-wise in their page history.
@GodsyTwo-ingredient cocktails had only a single revision, it redirected to Two-ingredient cocktail. The latter page was speedily deleted by Liz with the summary "G7 - created by a blocked editor" (presumably she meant G5 as it was created by User:Зенитная_Самоходная_Установка who is CU-blocked, presumably as as sock but I've not looked). It consisted of the two sentences below plus a list of ~35 examples and a see also to Three-ingredient cocktail. If you want the examples in your userspace just say.
A two-ingredient cocktail is a cocktail that can be made with as few as two ingredients, often a base spirit and one other ingredient. Such cocktails are often easier and quicker to prepare than more complicated cocktails.[1][2]
Three-ingredient cocktails also had just a single revision, a redirect to Three-ingredient cocktail, which target Liz also speedily deleted under G7 when she meant G5 (@Liz, please self-administer a {{minnow}}), created by the same cu-blocked editor. It had the same format as two-ingredient cocktail with an intro paragraph (see below) a list of 15 examples (available on request) and a see-also to two-ingredient cocktail.
A three-ingredient cocktail is a cocktail that can be made with as few as three ingredients. The technical, 19th-century definition of a cocktail stated that it should consist solely of three ingredients: spirit, sweetener, and bitters. Sours consisting of spirit, sweetener, and citrus are another kind of three-ingredient cocktail.[3] An advantage of many such cocktails is the relative ease of making them, particularly at home,[4] compared to cocktails with longer lists of ingredients.[5]
Please RSVP at the link above, even if you might be interested, so we can know how many people to expect, and add your agenda items. Hope to see you there!
Based on your comment in the now-closed RfD I think the issue here is that you are deleting redirects because they appear on a list of broken redirects without checking the history of the redirect. It's worth reiterating that a page is only speedily deleteable if all its revisions meet one or more speedy deletion criteria, so checking the page history is not optional. Done. User:Intrisit, please don't game the system by moving redirects around like that. It you think a redirect should be deleted then tag it for speedy deletion properly or use RfD. I personally don't think "X (formerly Y)" is a useful redirect to have and might have accepted it as an R3, but it's apparently used in hundreds of other titles so whatever. * Pppery *in solidarity03:25, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz — thank you again for your help in flagging the issues on Michael Perelman (psychologist) and for guiding me through the conflict-of-interest process. Following your advice, I've now posted a formatted {{edit COI}} request at Talk:Michael Perelman (psychologist)#COI edit request: Awards and Editorial cleanup (article subject). It proposes properly cited replacements for the Awards and Editorial sections and is intended to clear the January 2023 "Formatting and refs not in ref tags" cleanup tag. I'd be grateful for your review whenever your time allows. Sorry it took me so long to get to this, but the good news is I collected a few more Awards and this time, I understood better because of you what the citations were to prove I received them. Done Since The Transhumanist came here, not WP:REFUND, and I didn't see Pppery's message, I restored these drafts since it seems like that was the message I was getting from so many editors here. Again, I'll say that I'm not the deleting admin in all of these questions. I try to get to requests in a timely manner but sometimes I don't because I have a lot of other tasks here. This was the reason I'm not on the Arbitration Committee either, too many other things to do here. I'm sorry that I seem to have disappointed so many of you. I have tried my best. Back to work on categories about Malta. LizRead!Talk!18:42, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Extraordinary Writ: Thank you for the offer—it is tempting. The current system ensures that I work on outlines over time, by forcing (or at least strongly prompting) a quota, even if some slip through my fingertips now and again. If they were in my userspace they might just gather dust and never see another edit. That's what happened when they were in WikiProject space. Besides, I'd have to keep watching draft space anyways, to monitor for new outline drafts. By being in draft space, they do attract other editors occasionally. —TheTranshumanist12:09, 26 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Liz, everything you do here is by choice so you are not required to do any tasks so please, please, please, stop using that as an excuse which you have been using for at least 3 years now. You've just deleted a huge number of Mario-related pages as created by a sock of Vinnylospo, however it looks like most of them were only edited by their sockpuppet and were created by others. Could these please be restored? * Pppery *in solidarity15:51, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I spot-checked quite a few of these redirects before deletion and it looked like the sockpuppet was the creator and only editor on these pages. But, if you're saying I'm wrong, then I'm wrong as I didn't look at them all and I'll be fine to undo my work upon request. My question is, there are several tools to do a mass deletion and I know there is a way to do a mess undeletion but I'm not familiar with it. If you know, could you fill me in or point me to the right information page. I'll also ping User:MSGJ as they are familiar with many tools of Wikipedia. I apologize to you here for this inconvenience. 17:41, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Mass actions without paying close attention to what you are doing are bad. Okay, I've finished reviewing all of your deletions. Here's a list of pages that need to be undeleted. It looks like you took specific categories where the sockpuppet had created some redirects and categorically assumed every redirect in that category must have been created by the sockpuppet, the logic of which baffles me. Please be more careful about what you are doing and don't presume guilt. Mass deletions don't absolve you from verifying that every single page in the batch is properly deleted* Pppery *in solidarity20:05, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
today, I was playing catch-up with these undeletions of those mistaken CSD G5 redirects but you are getting to every last one of them! How about I not only be more careful, I just don't do any more mass deletions AT ALL with sockpuppet cases. i thought I was doing this great service and I just created more work for others. I did learn how to mass "undelete" with Twinkle but you are much better at these tools than I was. I wish there was a way I could give you a virtual tip as I'm sure you had other plans of tasks you planned to spend today doing. I greatly appreciate your assistance. LizRead!Talk!01:00, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's worth noting that just one month ago Liz was actively reminded of the ADMINACCT responsibilties. Since then there are multiple requests that have gone unanswered on this page, and multiple others that have been handled by other editors. @Liz this is not good enough - you are responsible for responding to questions and requests about your admin actions, and you are responsible for doing so in a timely fashion.
I'm sorry, Thryduulf, I periodically have been going back to older messages and I neglected and it looks like yours was one of them. I'll see to it today if Pppery didn't get to all of it. LizRead!Talk!19:53, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
It looks like you are referring to a redirect I undeleted on 15:49, April 14, 2026. Sometimes pages are restored because deleting them would create a lot of broken redirects which we discover at User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects. This is why I often am asking editors who do page moves to leave a redirect behind when they move an older or popular article which has acquired a lot of redirects. This also frequently happens with page move vandalism. A vandal moves an article to an inappropriate title, the helpful Wikipedia bots "correct" all redirects to point to the bad title and when our vigilant vandal fighters return the article to the right title, they don't leave a redirect behind and we end up with dozens of broken redirects behind. I can create a "bad redirect" because eventually our bots will correct double redirects which is what we want to happen or if there are only a few, I'll fix them myself. We can always delete the "bad redirect" from the bad title to the correct title but if those broken redirects are deleted, it can be a challenge to find and restore them.
I'm not sure what happened to Avon but Pppery is correct, the best thing to do in these situations is to take it to WP:RFD. I know it often can seem quicker to ask an admin to flick the "delete/undelete" switch but in complicated cases that can impact other pages/articles, it's best to bring it to a discussion to get input from editors whom, in this case, are familiar with redirects. Hi Liz. May I please continue working on this draft? If ‘yes,’ please include where I may find the draft. I’m so sorry I have not been editing my draft article in a timely way.
Previously, I have been unable to find the draft. There were links that took me to the metaphysics page, yet no draft was present. These extenuating circumstances beyond my control has kept me from making timely edits.
I am not Wiki savy so thank you for any guidance you can provide. I look forward to to working with you.
Liz, forgive me…I’m a newbie. I pushed publish…can I still add Further Readings? Where do I go to continue to add to/edit the page? Thanks. Petuniabaa (talk) 21:12, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please do not apologize. I've been editing here since before 2013 and as you can see here, I still am learning things. I can help you if you are working on a laptop. At the top of the page is a horizontal menu which should have a tab marked "Edit". Click on that tab and you should be able to edit any area of the page. Also, there should be a link near the top of each paragraph stating, "Edit" and clicking on that should allow you to edit that paragraph. This is the standard format for editing on Wikipedia.
However, if you are editing on a phone or mobile device or any other formats for editing, I'm going to have to direct you to the Teahouse. This is a discussion board for new editors and there are kind people there with a lot more knowledge than I have that can help you out. It's just a matter of finding the right person to direct your question to. And we have new editors joining every day so you can rest assured that all of your questions have been asked before this. Good luck. LizRead!Talk!21:28, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have received over 22 messages on my User talk page today and feel a little besieged although I'm sure that this adjective will be seen in a negative light as well. Explanations I provide get labeled "excuses" so I feel like I have to be very careful with words here. I'm respond to one message and find that I've screwed something else up so I'm just going to start all communications from the bottom of this page rather than the middle and hopefully I can get to every question in an acceptable amount of time. It seems like this started with my mistake in using a batch deletion feature for dealing with a sockpuppet's edits and I've already stated that I won't do that again and has mushroomed out into other complaints about me so I'll start at the bottom of the page and hopefully come to some point in the middle where everyone is satisfied. I might be naive with that hope but it's what I'm going to start with. LizRead!Talk!19:30, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Liz:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

Hi Liz, while preparing to create this draft, I noticed you had previously deleted it. Since I've reviewed two drafts in the past that turned out to be problematic (they had been previously deleted, and one of them turned out to be paid editing) I wanted to ask if you could take a look at this draft and let me know whether it's okay. Needless to say, I have no interest in or connection to the platform. Balabush (talk) 09:28, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Balabush There's nothing special to be said about the draft you have created -- as a page in the draft namespace, it does not appear to be a page that should presently be deleted. I suppose it wasn't created using a large language model, I suppose its content does not breach copyright, and the content is not promotional in a worrying way. There is no reason to ask for specific feedback from Liz. The issue of whether the draft should be moved to article space is something about which you can get help from many editors interested in creating new articles from drafts; one place where they congregate is the "Articles for Creation" WikiProject. The draft already has an "Articles for Creation" template. If you submit it, I will decline the submission because both the topic and the content fail the inclusion standards, but that does not mean that the draft is not okay. The draft is okay. The article that might come to be were that draft to be moved to article space would not be okay. It might be better to reply to this message on the draft's talk page and ping me there instead of replying here. —Alalch E.15:53, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for letting me know. This editor has only been active for a few days, I'm surprised it's become a discussion on AN already. I don't visit noticeboards often but I'll see if there is some way I can help. LizRead!Talk!01:36, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Liz. 4 years ago you prevented the Wikipedia page creation of Harriet Mathews, British diplomat. Harriet served as Ambassador to Somalia from 2015-16, a Director General (highly senior government employee) at UK Foreign Office (FCDO) from 2022-2025 and is married to well known politician, Baron David Frost, de facto making her Lady Frost though she doesn’t use the title. I would like to create a Wikipedia page for her. May I do this? LauraMorris208 (talk) 21:06, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, * Pppery *. Many editors don't notice the deletion link at the top of the page that explains the circumstances of the article deletion. I'm guessing you're talking about Harriet Mathews? Yes, you can create a new article on this individual. If you would like to have the past version restored, either to main space or Draft space, you can just ask any admin or put in a request at WP:REFUND.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on July 3. Please help translate. The work follows annual plan goals for this fiscal year (July 2026–June 2027).
Wikimania 2026: Wikimania is happening this week! After the event, all streamed sessions will be linked in the program on Eventyay and later uploaded to Commons.
Grantmaking: The Global Resource Distribution Committee has published a Grantmaking Strategy draft that sets out a renewed approach to how the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Fund is distributed across the Wikimedia Movement. The GRDC is requesting feedback from volunteers and affiliates, regardless of whether they are grantees or not.
Movement Ecosystem: A proposal that would update movement affiliate recognition and establish new, connected criteria for eligibility to receive Community Fund grants is now available for community review. You are invited to read the proposal and participate in the discussion until August 7.
Women+ contributions in Wikimedia Tech: A guide based on lived experience on how to address some of the invisible barriers for women+ in more technical Wikimedia spaces and recommendations to become more inclusive. Help further by filling out this survey to better understand technical contributions by women+ across Wikimedia projects until July 20.
Structured Experimentation: A reflection on the first year of structured experimentation highlights successful experiments such as Paste Check, Reference Check, and Tone Check, which improved editing outcomes and have been rolled out to more users, as well as experiments that did not lead to product changes.
Revise Tone test ended: The A/B test of Revise Tone ended on July 9. It showed that newcomer task completion rates increased by 38.7% compared to the default Copyedit task, with no decrease in edit quality. The feature is now available for everyone on the Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias. The plan is to release Revise Tone to more wikis.
Wikidata: The latest Wikidata Platform newsletter (July edition) shares how to identify and rewrite queries that rely on Blazegraph-specific extensions and affected by the migration off Blazegraph.
Discussion Tools: On English Wikipedia, DiscussionTools' Usability Improvements has now become default for talk pages. You can opt-out of these changes at any time in user preferences. With this, Discussion Tools are now fully available at all wikis.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 28 and 29 include the new Parsoid parser continues to be deployed to additional wikis, making it easier to introduce new reading and editing features. See also the 72 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks. Overall, from April – June 2026 about 337 community tasks were resolved by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Language inclusivity at Wikimania 2026: New approaches to translation and interpretation will be tested at Wikimania this year.
Call for submissions open for Wikimedia Latin America Conference 2026: The Wikimedia community in Latin America has opened the call for session proposals for the Wikimedia Latin America Conference 2026. Community members are invited to submit proposals for the conference program by August 10.
UK Online Safety Act: Ofcom, the United Kingdom's Office of Communications, announced that Wikipedia is not designated as a Category 1 service under the Online Safety Act (OSA). This is an important and welcomed outcome as a Category 1 designation could have included privacy and safety risks to our global community of volunteers.
UN Open Source Week edit-a-thon: Volunteers created 60 new Wikipedia articles and made nearly 700 updates to improve Wikipedia's coverage of UN and open source topics at the second UN Open Source Week edit-a-thon co-hosted by Wikimedia Foundation.
"Don’t Blink": The latest developments from around the world about protecting the Wikimedia model, its people and its values.
"A Wiki Minute" videos: New videos are added to the series answering some of the most common questions such as "Do you still need Wikipedia when AI can answer anything?" and "Does Wikipedia push a political agenda?".
Wikipedia 25 brand collaboration in Indonesia: On 4 July, the Jakarta-based street wear company Ageless Galaxy launched a Wikipedia 25 collection, the first ever Wikipedia Brand Collaboration in Asia. The apparel collection featured hats, t-shirts, and a jigsaw puzzle cardigan. Wikimedians in Indonesia joined Ageless Galaxy for a launch party.
Board Elections Eligibility: There are new proposed eligibility criteria for standing as a candidate in Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election now available for feedback. The requirements are more specific and detailed than in years past, to both inform the community of what the Board needs and to create multiple pathways to the Board for Wikimedians.

Hello Liz,
I hope you're well.
I noticed that the draft "College of Remote and Offshore Medicine" was deleted under G13 as an abandoned draft.
I am affiliated with the College and would like to continue developing the article in accordance with Wikipedia's notability and sourcing guidelines. Would it be possible to restore the draft to my userspace (or back to the Draft namespace) so that I can continue improving it before resubmitting it through Articles for Creation?
I understand the deletion was purely because the draft had become inactive, and I appreciate your time.
Hi LIz, yes, I would like to try to redo this page. I have AI now, to help me make sure that it passes the wiki standards. Can you please bring it back to draft and I will have a look? KerryTracker (talk) 15:58, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Liz,
I am Pankaj Agarwal, the subject of the page Draft:Pankaj Agarwal, which you deleted in April 2021 under criterion G5 because it had been created by a blocked user.
I understand that G5 is a procedural deletion criterion and not a judgement about the subject's notability.
I am now preparing a completely new draft myself with full conflict-of-interest disclosure and intend to submit it through Articles for Creation.
Before I recreate the draft, I was wondering whether the previous draft was ever substantively reviewed before it was deleted, or whether the deletion was purely because it had been created by a blocked editor.
If possible, I'd also appreciate any advice on the best way to proceed.
Many thanks,
Pankaj Agarwal Mogulfromvaduz (talk) 15:25, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
First, can you provide me with a link to your Draft so that I can see it and see which editors have been working on it. Secondly, submit your draft to Articles for Creation, they are experts at assessing new work. Good luck. LizRead!Talk!18:25, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Liz, Thank you for your quick
reply. I have not yet created the draft on Wikipedia, so there is not yet a link or editing history to share. When I attempted to create Draft:Pankaj Agarwal, Wikipedia displayed a notice that a page with that title had been deleted in 2021 under G5 because it had been created by a blocked user. Since Pankaj Agarwal is a common name, I do not know whether that earlier draft concerned me. I have prepared a new draft based on published sources. I will create it at Draft:Pankaj Agarwal, disclose that I am the subject of the draft, and submit it through Articles for Creation as you suggest. Once it is saved, I will send you the link. Thank you for the guidance. Mogulfromvaduz (talk) 19:22, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Liz,
As requested, here's the link to my draft Wikipedia article:
Please note that it's currently a draft submitted through Wikipedia's Articles for Creation process and is still under review, so it isn't yet a published encyclopedia article. I thought I'd share it since you had expressed interest. If you have any comments or spot any factual inaccuracies, I'd be happy to hear them.

No problem at all, I was just surprised because most of my page deletions are expired drafts or broken redirects so I couldn't see a situation where I'd delete an article that someone was actively working on. Hi Liz - Looks like you deleted the page this page? Jason Cohen (Entrepreneur) Also seems odd that I never got a notification that it was deleted? I just happed across it and noticed it was gone. Can you elaborate as to why you deleted it and I didn't get any notice or communication about it? JazzyOxygen (talk) 01:13, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
When an article is moved to a different page title, it leaves behind a redirect that contains a link from its former page title to the new page title. If an article is deleted, this redirect is now "broken" which can be seen because there is a red link to a nonexistent article. What I often do on Wikipedia is delete broken redirect pages and that is what happened here. In July 2025, the article at Jason Cohen (Entrepreneur) was moved to Jason Cohen (entrepreneur). The page I deleted was Jason Cohen (Entrepreneur) which just contained a broken link to Jason Cohen (entrepreneur).
The page with your article, Jason Cohen (entrepreneur), was deleted by David Eppstein on July 18, 2026. If you look at the top of a deleted page, there is an explanation in a pink tag at the top of the page. In this case, it states "Expired LLMPROD, concern was Presumptive removal of LLM-generated content, see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1196 § JazzyOxygen and LLM use. Feel free to reinstate by following the procedures for disputing presumptive removal of LLM-generated content." There was a link to a discussion from 2025 on ANI, see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1196#JazzyOxygen and LLM use and also to a policy page at Wikipedia:Presumptive removal of AI-generated content.
I think if you review the ANI discussion and the policy page, you will receive more information on why the article was deleted. If you want more specific information, ask David Eppstein, the admin who deleted the article, on his User talk page. That's all I can tell you at this point. Good luck. Planning on Working on a draft for Gillian Caldwell

I went to create a draft for Gillian Caldwell (Skoll Award winner, former climate head for USAID) as part of a Women in Red effort, and noted that it had been deleted by you as part of an abandoned draft four years ago. Out of courtesy, I wanted to check to see if you had any objections with me and other WiR editors trying to get an article to pass muster. I am coming back to editing after quite a hiatus, and want to follow the correct path. JRandomF (talk) 16:03, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Meet the Wikimedians of the Year 2026: The beloved Wikimedian of The Year awards shine the light on exceptional individuals, and through them, on the whole Wikimedia community. Learn about all of this year's winners.
Public policy advocacy: Overview of Wikimania 2026 sessions about public policy advocacy. While not all sessions are recorded, you can watch some by clicking the session.
Users with extended rightspre-conference: 190 users with extended rights from all around the world gathered at a Wikimania pre-conference, to exchange experiences, learn from each other and connect.
Media coverage: The event was mentioned in many media outlets as part of wider coverage about the Wikimedia projects including in Le Monde, El Nacional and Radio France.
Improvement to Reading Lists: Community feedback around the placement of watchstar and watchlist buttons for the Reading Lists beta feature has been incorporated. 93% of participating users reported that it was useful. This feature allows saving articles for later reading – a wishlist item to bring the functionality to web.
Creating custom edit suggestions: With the TextMatch feature, volunteers can now create custom local suggestions within the VisualEditor for improving Wikipedia articles. You can find examples from other communities for inspiration. Share your feedback.
Dark mode for Content Translation:Content Translation now supports dark mode, fulfilling a Community Wishlist request. This brings the tool in line with the accessibility features available in the Vector 2022 and Minerva skins, helping reduce visual fatigue for users translating content.
Mobile page preview: Based on the conclusion of the experiment, mobile page previews feature will not be rolled out. The experiment showed flat retention and negative indicator metrics, suggesting that mobile web readers preferred navigating directly to linked articles rather than using page previews.
Scaling of Explore Feed to iOS: The Explore Feed Refresh initiative was tested with new and casual Wikipedia app readers. The refreshed feed helps readers discover new and relevant content. After a 10.5% increase in engagement with the feed, Home Feed redesign will be scaled to iOS by applying the learnings from the Android release.
Improving Account Creation process: After running several Account Creation Experiments to improve registration completion rates, a new version of the username field on Create Account has been rolled out. Read more.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 30 and 31 include that now wikis can restrict editing in the “User” namespace to only the page owner and certain user groups. See also the 50 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
New bot detection system for all wikis: After a successful trial, which showed evidence of both deterring bots and being easier to use, hCaptcha (our new bot detection system) has been rolled out to all wikis, for account creation, and for most newcomer edits.

First of all, I should preface this by emphasising that I have no objection to the page's deletion. You see, I am looking into the life's work of a Dr. Alfred R. Globus. A page on a concept he was working on, Veritism, is relevant to this investigation. Unfortunately, it was deleted, but as an administrator, I was hoping you could help me. I know the general contents of the page and the edit history, but I would really appreciate if you could somehow transfer to me the contents of the talk page. If you could, I'd also appreciate knowing the summary given for the edit that created the page by the user Germanboy104, whose account no longer seems to exist. This would all be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Comrade1347 (talk) 16:33, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a bunch! That's really helpful. There's just more thing I'd like, and then I'll be out of your hair. The first user to contribute to the article was the one who basically created the entire thing: Germanboy104. As such, could you give me the summary of the edit he made which created the page? Hello, @Liz. I am planning to recreate this page Gyan Chand, but this time with proper inline citations and reliable secondary sources. It will be based on published works by historians such as Edwin T. Atkinson, Badri Dutt Pandey, and other reliable Indian historical sources.
Would it be acceptable if I recreated the page in this manner? If you have any concerns or suggestions regarding the sources or scope, I'd be happy to address them before creating the article. Thank you. Kumaoni Paintertalk04:52, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz! I saw that you moved and deleted London International Awards back in Dec 2023. I was wondering what the main reason for its deletion was? Also, do you think it's fine if I create a redirect from London International Awards to the list article for now? Thanks a lot! CalCoWSpiBudSu (talk) 21:42, 6 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
You can find out why that article was deleted by reviewing the discussion that led to the deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/London International Awards. My recommendation would be to gather up the best sources you can find and write a new draft, submitting it to WP:AFC for review when you think it is ready.
I knew when I was a new editor, I brought a lot of the questions I had to the Teahouse. The editors who respond to questions are generally very kind and helpful. In general, you'll find more help if you go to a noticeboard, like the Teahouse or the talk page of a WikiProject than asking an individual editor for help as it's more likely that you'll run into an editor with pertinent experience at one of our Help projects like the Teahouse or the Help Desk. Good luck. LizRead!Talk!00:30, 7 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Liz! I'm a newbie to Wikipedia and I'm trying to slowly chip away at a page about my favorite dog breed, the Windsprite! I understand the draft was removed due to six months of inactivity. I wanted to let you know that I'm stuck on a particular snag and I lost momentum trying to figure out how to format it on the published page. I'll try to fix that ASAP so that it can be published, finally! When you're able, can you please restore my draft? Thank you for all your hard work. It's very clear that this is a labor of love for you! Many thanks ~ Milo JustAskMilo (talk) 14:04, 8 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It looks like you didn't wait for a response from me and you made the same request at WP:REFUND. That's often the wisest thing to do as I'm just one admin with a varied work schedule and I believe there are 3 or 4 admins who regularly review requests at REFUND so you can get a more prompt response. It looks like BD2412 restored Draft:Windsprite and I see no remaining deleted content that needs to be recoved unless it's under a different page title. Good luck and happy editing on your draft. First, have you read over the AFD for this article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/International Conference of Marxist–Leninist Parties and Organizations (Unity & Struggle)? You should know that there are some page deletions that are easy to restore, for example CSD G13 stale drafts, PRODs (Proposed deletions), CSD G7s (creator's requests to delete their articles), but articles that have gone through a deletion discussion can not just be restored to the main space. But you do have a couple of alternatives though.
If you don't believe that the AFD was assessed and closed fairly, you can appeal its closure at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Please be aware (and you will be reminded) that DRV is not an AFD, Pt. 2, you are not arguing on the merits of the subject of the article but on whether or not the PROCESS of the AFD deletion discussion was handled fairly. After a DRV discussion, a consensus will be made on whether to accept the AFD decision, overturn it, reopen and relist the AFD for a longer period or just encourage you to write a new version in Draft space. Sometimes starting from scratch is the best decision although it can seem like unnecessary work.
Secondly, I could restore this article to User or Draft space. Please know that you have to work on the article to eliminate the points of criticism in the AFD and why editors thought it should be deleted. If you just move it back to main space, as it is, it will almost immediately be tagged for speedy deletion as a CSD G4, previously deleted article, and it will then be even harder, maybe impossible, to restore. You need to improve the article and then submit it for review at WP:AFC for an AFC reviewer to look it over. THat's why I stated that sometimes it can be easier to start from scratch rather that try to fix all of the problems in the previous version.
Thank you very much for the explanation. I'm not really contesting the outcome of the AFD, but rather the reason for its initiation: "No significant coverage in reliable sources." A simple search on Google Books is enough to understand that this is untrue at all. In practice, it seems to me that no source research has been done at all, or only cursorily, on this organization, which boasts its own page in 14 other language editions of Wikipedia. I think the best solution is to restore it as a draft, as you suggested, integrate it with existing sources, and submit it to WP:AFC. Scia Della Cometa (talk) 13:48, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Liz,
I love the content at the top of your talk page. I think I know where to go if I need some wiki-inspiration! I am contacting you because I would like to restore a page to draft space that you deleted . I would like to see how well sourced it is and how much more work it needs. To be honest, the page is also related to something I am looking into for the current ARBCOM case, Gun Control 2 . And if, eventually, I can restore it to main space readiness, so much the better. Please, someone nominated Oga Amoss for speedy deletion. I guess you are the one who deleted the account based on it wasn't properly notable or source. Based on the speedy deletion now, please I suggest you crosscheck the article well now to see if it's notable or not. Or to continue the deletion. I made a mistake while I was moving, I wish it could be corrected please. Thank you. Yola Amiri (talk) 17:13, 17 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't judge whether or not the subject was notable, as an administrator, I just assessed the opinion at the AFD and closed the discussion with the decision to delete the article. After an article has been deleted through an AFD, you can't just recreate it again in main space or it will be tagged for speedy deletion CSD G4.
If you want to do this in the future, you should work on a new draft of the deleted article in Draft or User space and submit it for review to Articles for Creation. The AFC reviewer can judge whether or not the new version has improved and resolved the problems that caused the first version to be deleted. But putting it right back into main space without an AFC review will just lead to its deletion via CSD G4 which is what is happening to it now.
An updated message shown to logged-out mobile users who try to edit produced a 27% relative increase in account creation and is being scaled to all wikis. (T424595)
A simpler post-edit dialog for temporary account holders increased permanent account creation by 87% (relative), converting more temp editors into registered ones. (T416418)The redesigned account creation form increases registration by a relative 24.4%
We also redesigned the account creation form itself (T409236): adding real-time username validation, a concise summary of the username policy, a "reveal password" option, and a simplified design aligned with Codex guidelines. In an A/B test on English Wikipedia mobile, users who saw the redesigned form created permanent accounts at a rate of 20.4%, compared to 16.4% for the control group (a 24.4% relative increase).
Revise Tone helps newcomers identify passages that may contain non-encyclopedic language and guides them through revising the tone.
In A/B testing on Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias, newcomer task completion rates were 38.7% higher than the default Copyedit task, with no decrease in edit quality.
The test ended July 9, and the feature is now available to everyone on these wikis, configurable via Community Configuration.
We plan to release Revise Tone to more wikis.
Growth features are now available at Wikidata, including a simplified Newcomer Homepage, Mentorship, the Impact module, Community Updates and the Help Panel.

Rather than remaining a newcomer-only feature, Home will evolve with users as they gain experience, surfacing Suggested Edits, edits to review, and moderation workflows at the right moment.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on August 1. Please help translate.
Highlights
Improving Account Creation process: As part of Account Creation Experiments an improved account creation form has been released. The form now provides live username validation, a clearer username policy popover, and a reveal password button. We also removed redundant elements and jarring warning messages, improved the form's information hierarchy, and aligned the design with Codex design system guidelines.

Hello, Liz, and sorry for disturbing you for such a mundane issue but I am really not familiar with any technical issues regarding Wikipedia procedures. Following your suggestion, I read the rules about CFD discussion but I could not find the exact template I have to use in order to tag the categories for proposed merger, nor could I find the exact template to notify the creators of said categories. I would be grateful, if you could tell me the exact notification templates I have to use in those two cases. Best regards, --Gligan1 (talk) 06:36, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's best to use one of the popular editing tools, like Twinkle, to set up a CFD or AFD nomination. It includes all of the templates. Or, you could view one of the nominations on a CFD daily log, examine a nomination and copy the template that appears on one of the categories being discussed. But it's easiest to use Twinkle to set up a nomination because it will even notify the category creator on your behalf. LizRead!Talk!06:04, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm not sure to go about this. I came across the draft page Draft:The Fly (upcoming film), and it is basically a draft for a fake movie, none of the sources included corroborate the page's details, and most of said details are just blatant fabrications. Rusted AutoParts17:49, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the "hoax" CSD criteria can be applied to drafts as well as main stream articles but the crux of it is that it has to be an "obvious" hoax like saying Superman is the President of the U.S or there is another world at the center of Earth. I'm not sure this is obvious enough. How do you know it is a hoax? It's all written by one editor have you talked to them yet? LizRead!Talk!23:39, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I haven't but in the article they are citing castings not supported by the sources, most of the claims lead to 404'd pages, as well as detailing panel presentations at conventions, said panel presentations never happening. Rusted AutoParts23:55, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've made major edits to the draft to remove all hoaxed details. Should the draft creator restore these elements I'll tag it for speedy deletion as a hoax. Rusted AutoParts21:40, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I had to clean up my laptop and the app logged me out of Wikipedia and when I came back, this was the message I saw:
August 22: Wikipedia still can't be sold
We're sorry we've made several attempts to reach you. It's Saturday, August 22, and Wikipedia is seeing fewer readers this year so your visit means a lot. If everyone reading this gave $2.75 today, we'd hit our goal quickly. Most readers don't donate; only 2% do. Wikipedia is run by a nonprofit, not by a billionaire. So if Wikipedia has given you $2.75 worth of knowledge, please give. Any contribution helps, whether it's $2.75 or $25.
I had heard about these ads on Wikipedia that unregistered readers see but I hadn't seen one before. This is not the image I have of the current state of Wikipedia, that we are on the verge of collapse and have fewer readers. I wish they provided citations to back up those claims. LizRead!Talk!05:16, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I just am left clueless by the statement "We're sorry we've made several attempts to reach you." What the hell does this mean? There are no messages on my user talk page, how would they have any personal information on me. It's just a straight out-and-out lie. I realize that the Wikimedia Foundation feels the need to fundraise but I really expected more from them. And I'd like to know the stats on whether or not we really have fewer readers in 2026 than we did in, say, 2024.
It's like the spam emails/texts about your car warranty. The donation appeals aren't a scam like those but they're unethical and mostly untrue. Every non logged in editor sees that, so it's not about you personally.
"We're sorry we've made several attempts to reach you" means "we've previously attempted to show this ad". It's not about you personally and has nothing to do with your account.
The WMF has expected for a long time that page views would someday decline. First it was Facebook mirroring our articles on their site (but overall internet growth offset that). Then it was the Google knowledge panel. And then people started listening to articles on their smart speakers. Now it's chatbots and AI summaries. The expectation of our freely licensed content being delivered offsite is one of the reasons they created the Wikimedia Endowment: If you save while the money's available, then a reduction in annual page views/donors (or another economic recession) doesn't have to turn into emergency budget cuts.

Hi Liz.
You recently deleted my draft page "Yamamoto Kakuyoshi." I've "undeleted" it, however, there is no content anymore. Can you restore the prior version? I will make my final edits and submit.

On 1 September 2026, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin at a particularly important time for NPP.
The backlog has now passed 30,000 unreviewed articles, a level that has been described in current NPP discussions as exceptionally high and potentially difficult to overcome through normal reviewing alone. Backlog drives are one of the few measures that have historically produced a noticeable reduction in the backlog, so the participation of as many active patrollers as possible will matter this month.
If you can review during September, please make articles your priority. Every article that is reviewed is a meaningful reduction in the backlog. With the queue at its current size, even a relatively small increase in the number of articles each patroller reviews can add up to a substantial difference over the course of the month.
This is a hybrid drive, so redirect reviewing is still included. Redirects can be a useful way for newer patrollers to get comfortable with NPP and can help people build up to reviewing articles. However, the main goal of this drive is to tackle the article backlog, and experienced patrollers are particularly encouraged to spend as much of their available reviewing time on articles as they can.
Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled.
Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points.
Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive.
Barnstars will also be granted for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
If you have been thinking about doing more NPP, this is an especially good month to jump in. Whether you can review a few pages or hundreds, every review helps. And if you are already an active patroller, please consider whether you can put in some additional time during September to help bring the backlog back under control.

On 25 August 2023 you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lindsay Clancy so a once-BLP article was merged to Postpartum psychosis. I am not here to quibble with your closure. The trial is still not over but my understanding is that many medical experts did not agree with a diagnosis of psychosis although at least one did. Even a verdict will not settle any particular diagnosis. The AFD led to related edits to the target article. An editor has since redirected the Lindsay Clancy BLP to the more recent Killing of the Clancy children article which was wise in my opinion even though that article has the sort of inaccuracies to be expected in current affairs articles. This redirect is obviously extremely vulnerable to reversion. What should be done about all this, do you think? Thincat (talk) 14:33, 29 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey Liz. I was wondering why you removed the G6 tag from User:Axolitl/round-robin/Pure Ecstasy. The circumstances were confusing, so I'll try to explain them here:
When trying to publish Draft:Pure Ecstasy as part of AfC, I noticed this redirect was at Pure Ecstasy in mainspace, and was going to try an round-robin swap the pages (so that the redirect would then be located at Draft:Pure Ecstasy and the published draft would be at Pure Ecstasy). So, I moved the redirect to a place in my userspace (and was ready to move it to Draft:Pure Ecstasy after I published the draft), and then published the draft via AfC helper. However, I didn't realize there was no easy way to suppress redirects the AfC helper's move, so the redirect was left stuck in my user space (with no good place to move it). I realize the proper action would have been to not move the redirect in the first place, tagging it with G6 and waiting for it to be deleted, but it was too late for that now. So I tagged the redirect in my userspace with G6.

Hello Liz,
I am writing to request a review of the indefinite creation protection on Draft:Gokul Rajendran, which you protected on 2 March 2024 for repeated recreation.
I understand why the title was protected, and I am not asking to bypass the protection. I would like to ask whether the subject can now be reconsidered based on substantially newer sourcing.
Since the previous recreations, there is now significant additional coverage from independent and authoritative sources, including:
WHO identifies Gokul Rajendran as an Ayurvedic medicine student and co-founder of the Global Indigenous Traditional Medicine Alliance and discusses his work concerning traditional medicine, biodiversity and planetary health.
The Ministry published substantive coverage of Rajendran's documentary work concerning the environmental consequences of the war in Ukraine and his presentation of the film at COP29.
The official COP29 Ukraine Pavilion programme identifies Rajendran as the director of the documentary and describes its screening at the Ukraine Pavilion.
There are also additional sources concerning his youth climate leadership and international activities.
I am not requesting that the article be created without review. I would be happy for the material to be reviewed first and, if appropriate, submitted through the Articles for Creation process.
I also have a conflict of interest because I am the subject of the proposed biography. I therefore intend to disclose this and avoid directly creating or publishing the article myself.
Could you please advise whether you would be willing to review a proposed draft, or whether I should make a request through another Wikipedia process?
Thanks for letting me know. I'm not sure why the DRV nominator always seems to forget doing this, it seems like you always take care of forgotten notifications (bless you!). LizRead!Talk!03:00, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for leaving that kind message for 11WB. I wish I had been around when this drama was happening. 11WB was a very nice editor. Maybe they'll see your message and feel better. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:32, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
For better or worse, I don't frequent noticeboards for the past few years including anything in the arbitration committee world so I rarely know the back story of what's going on these days. The only reason I'm aware of 11WB's departure is that I saw them tagging all of their user pages for speedy deletion. I tried to read through the lines of their last edit summaries to know why they were so unhappy but I still don't have the full picture. But we've lost a couple very active editors this summer and besides missing these editors as people, it also means other folks have to step up and take care of more of the workload. That's what I think of with every admin recall effort. We are all flawed people but lazy or inactive admins don't get recalled, it's the busy admins that do. I wish there was some middle ground between doing nothing and desysopping an admin but RFCUs went out of fashion a decade ago. LizRead!Talk!02:55, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It all happened so fast. I didn't see what caused 11WB's retirement, either. But maybe my absence was for the best. I'm a hothead, and I might have said something that I regretted if I thought 11WB were being run off the site. Ironically, I guess I'm part of the problem – being a hothead and all. It's just so depressing that Wikipedia grinds people down and runs them off like this. It's also sad that we have so few ways that aren't major dramafests to deal with issues. People can feel so unappreciated. In my opinion, RFC/U was another dramafest, but maybe something similar yet better could be designed. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:24, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on August 15. Please help translate.
Future of Community Wishlist
Highlights
Simplifying account creation: The Special:CreateAccount page has been simplified as part of ongoing work to modernize the account creation experience. Multiple account creation experiments show that a simpler form helps newcomers complete registration.
Movement Ecosystem strategy: Deadline to provide feedback on the first version of the proposal are extended until Sep 30 to allow more time for community feedback and discussion.
New format for the Community Wishlist: You can read the proposed ideas on Meta. This new process plans to improve how wishes are triaged, voted on, and prioritized in a way that is transparent and balanced across project families and language editions. Please let us know what you think will work well or if there are ways to make this proposal stronger. This consultation is open for two weeks.
Improving page performance: In order to improve page performance, images now load when they are viewed. This means images that are lower down within an article will not load if a reader never scrolls to that part of the page, which may affect some image-related metrics.
Android Reading list updates: Some of the recent Android releases include updates to the Saved feature. This first round of changes on the Android app include redesigning the "Saved" tab to include an "All articles" view, and remove the user-facing default "Saved" reading list.
Reading list on desktop: Reading lists has been released on Chinese, Bengali, Czech, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. The feature is now available for logged-in users on those wikis.
Event Registration tool: The Worklist feature for the Event Registration tool is now live on all Wikimedia wikis. With Worklist, event organizers can add the articles their event will focus on directly to the event page. The Worklist also powers Event Pathways which notifies other editors of the upcoming or ongoing event when they edit an article featured in the event’s Worklist.
Call for Projects and Mentors for Outreachy: Wikimedia is participating in Round 33 of the Outreachy program that runs from December 2026 through March 2027. The deadline to submit projects on Phabricator is Sept 4 at 4pm UTC and the project list will be finalized by Sep 11.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 34 and 35 include that a new Wikipedia in Bole has been created. See also the 58 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
UwER Conference: In December, the Wikimedia Portugal and Wikimedia Foundation will be hosting a first-of-its-kind convening for users with extended rights. Applications to attend opened August 13 and will close on September 4.
Don't Blink: The latest developments from around the world about protecting the Wikimedia model, its people and its values.
Legal footer update: The Foundation had updated the Legal and Safety Contact Information on 300+ content wikis. The project adds a link to a Foundation-managed central page where people can find contact information to report illegal issues and serve official legal notices. This helps to resolve gaps if community-managed contact pages are missing or incomplete.
AffCom: The Affiliations Committee is extending the pause on new affiliate recognition until the affiliate recognition and funding model is further clarified.

Hello, Liz. Please check your email; you've got mail! The subject is James Cuff. It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
Hi Liz,
I'm probably doing this wrong, but you were super helpful with the last go round while I was still at MIT and didn't really have any time to sort out the page. Time has passed, and I wrote up some reasoning last night over at: Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#c-DrCuff-20260902042300-James Cuff to think about restoring the page. The fuss the last time was that I wasn't considered notable, which probably because I'm an expat Brit from a council estate, I do agree. I have been involved in some important work which is mentioned in the request for undeletion and software and systems (jalview/jpred etc) that are referenced here in the encyclopedia.
The James Cuff page has been around for a very long time and I also just found out that User:DGG who helped us back in the day get the page stood up (we didn't know what we were doing and accidentally cut and pasted a profile from my Harvard website) has passed away, how very sad.
One other tiny thing was Special:Contributions/Hooploop23k seems to created the conversation and has since moved on, I guess I must have upset them at some point, but their only contribution so far (from their history page) Special:Contributions/Hooploop23k was to start the take down of my little page here and then essentially wander off. Which is fine, but also kinda interesting! Again, back in 2022 I was up to my eyeballs getting a new department stood up at MIT, and just didn't want to cause a fuss so this wasn't really a priority.
In summary, probably the main reason is to connect my work to my D. Phil supervisor Geoff Barton (scientist) and specifically the work I invented in his lab Jpred, and then finally get around to writing up a page with my wife Michele Clamp who is like proper legit notable legend (biased but true).
As the article was soft deleted, it was eligible for restoration on request, which I have now done. Please be aware it may be re-nominated for deletion at any time if an editor feels it does not warrant inclusion —Martin (MSGJ·talk) 17:24, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much Martin. A bunch of good editors have had a great go at fixing up this article, I chucked a bunch of stuff in the talk page also to help out and made some small adjustments flagged (COI) to the page. The original author of the page has abandoned it and other than asking for it to be taken down I wouldn’t imagine would add anything further so once again we are all thankful to the kindness of strangers! All the best. James DrCuff (talk) 14:53, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your recent notification of speedy deletion on my talk page, you're severely mistaken. I didn't create the article, I moved it to the draft space. I'm on your team. Can you please remove the notification from my user page? It's defamatory. The actual creator of the page hasn't been active on Wikipedia since 2018. Edlectro28 (talk) 19:07, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I didn't "get the wrong guy". You moved this page from main space to draft space and so you were listed as the creator of this redirect. What you should have done next is to tag this cross-namespace redirect with CSD R2 tag which you didn't. When I came across it and deleted it, Twinkle send a notification to you as a reminder as the redirect creator that you should do this in the future if you ever move pages from one namespace to another, especially from main space. It's not "defamatory", it was accurate and you can remove the notice from your User talk page any time you like. LizRead!Talk!18:21, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
'tag this cross-namespace redirect with CSD R2 tag' can you explain what that is? I'm sorry that me trying to help caused such a problem, but I'm fairly new and have no idea what that means, so can you explain what I have to do in the future without using insider jargon? Thanks. P.S sorry for the late reply, just returned from a blood transfusion Edlectro28 (talk) 20:02, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Of course, I didn't realize that my explanation contained jargon. Here it goes. On Wikipedia, there are three ways to delete a page, WP:AFD or Articles for Deletion, where you tag a page and editors spend a week discussing whether or not it should stay or go. WP:PROD or Proposed deletion, where an editor tags a page for deletion for what is considered an "uncontroversial deletion". If any editor disagrees, they can just remove the PROD tag. and WP:CSD or Speedy deletion and "CSD" stands for the "criteria for speedy deletion". These are also for what an editor or admin sees as an uncontroversial deletion such as for promotional content or vandalism. You can read more about the different criteria at WP:CSD. Any way, one of the criteria is WP:R2 which is for a cross-namespace redirect from the main space which is pages are readers can see. You can read more about it at Wikipedia:Cross-namespace redirects. Unless an editor has the rights of a "page mover" then every time they move a page to a different page title, they leave behind a Redirect page which is just a page with a link from the former location to the new location. Redirects are often very useful but the ones we don't want are redirects from the main space, where are readers use, to most other namespaces on the project, like Draft space. So, if you do move an article from main space to Draft space, we'd like you to tag the redirect for speedy deletion or R2. Most deletion tagging is done using tools like Twinkle which easily tags a page and notifies the page creator which Twinkle judges to be the editor who made the first edit on a page.
When I came across this cross namespace redirect, I used Twinkle to both delete the page and send a reminder to the page creator, who Twinkle judged to be you a reminder to tag pages like this for deletion in the future. Twinkle judges you as the "page creator" because when you moved this article, unbeknownst to you, you created this redirect page. Sorry this is so long but I hope it explains a bit about what is going on on Wikipedia with page deletions and editor notifications. Lastly, I want to dispel the notion that receiving a notification is some sort of bad mark against your editing, it isn't, it just serves to inform you about activities concerning articles and pages you worked on. If you scroll up my own User talk page, you can see that I probably have a few notices on my User talk page. LizRead!Talk!22:51, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks bud. This isn’t the kind of edit I usually make, but I was doing some random patrol and came across a page and this happened. Glad it’s all resolved Edlectro28 (talk) 22:53, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just to reiterate my first comment, I'm really struggling to see how this behaviour was vandalism and how the behaviour merited a no-warning block rather than a conversation. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🧸18:31, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it's too bad you are not an administrator because then you could see this editor's deleted edits. On one day, this editor created approximately 40 categories and 40 template pages. And then tagged most of them for G7 deletion. This creates a lot of work for admins to spend time on and clean up. The tools we use require that we provide a reason for a block and while "vandalism" might not be the most accurate, I couldn't think of another, maybe "disruptive editing" would have been most suitable. This is a productive editor and so my goal with this block was just to stop them experimenting and creating more and more categories than admins would end up having to spend time on deleting. That is why this block was limited to Category namespace and was brief. I probably could have made it shorter, perhaps 3 days and if they appeal this block, that's what I would recommend.
But I'm not sure that a conversation would have been a better solution than a short, targeted block. In my 10+ year experience as an admin, when an editor just goes a bit overboard, creating category and category after category, they often don't stop what they are doing to talk about it. I should have gone back to talk with them and I'll do so today, thank you for the reminder.
You should really consider an RFA some day as you have such strong standards for appropriate admin behavior. I think you'd be a great asset to the project. LizRead!Talk!18:54, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've lifted the block as it was both in error, as the category edits stopped a half hour before your block which came fifteen minutes after their teahouse post, and as they gave a perfectly reasonable explanation for the category edits. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:58, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I, too, would like to thank ScottishFinnishRadish -- both for the block, and, because when I've questioned his admin actions in the past, he hasn't been sarcastic or rude, even when we disagree. It's much appreciated! GreenLipstickLesbian💌🧸19:12, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

... in less than an hour of creation. Do you have an automated or semiautomated tool to detect empty categories? If affirmative, I suggest to adjust it. If negative, why so hurry?! There is a couple of supercomputer hadrware and appliances manufactured by HPE (under the brand SGI), and Cray. I'm working on categorizing.
Actually, I use this link that lists empty categories. But I run it at different times during the day so it's not keyed to anyone's category creation. If I see that the category is only a few minutes old, I usually let it be if it's been created by one of our regular editors. I apologize if it felt like I was shadowing you and your work. Hello Liz, in July 2025, you closed the deletion discussion on the International Conference of Marxist–Leninist Parties and Organizations (International Newsletter), deciding there was consensus for deletion. I don't think you interpreted this falsely, but the argument in favour of deletion is flawed. The nominator acknowledged that there were mentions in print sources, but argued that the fact that he couldn't find significant coverage online constituted grounds for deletion. However, WP:SIGCOV obviously doesn't have to be presented through online sources. Instead:
According to political scientists Astrid Bötticher and Miroslav Mareš, the ICMLPO was one of the most important transnational Maoist groups in 2012 (see Astrid Bötticher, Miroslav Mareš (2012), Extremismus. Theorien – Konzepte – Formen, München: Oldenbourg, p.372, ISBN978-3-486-59793-6).
I was just carrying my interpretation of the consensus of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/International Conference of Marxist–Leninist Parties and Organizations (International Newsletter) discussion participants. I was not the judge of whether or not the article should stay or be deleted, I didn't work with the references but with the opinions of the participants. If I ignored the participants and decided to Delete or Keep on my own, that would have made my action a "Supervote" and that is highly discouraged. I had no opinion about the article itself.
If you believe I didn't assess the discussion correctly, you can appeal the closure at Wikipedia:Deletion review. But understand, this is not an AFD Version 2, you don't argue about the worthiness of the article but about whether the "closure" itself was justified. I think a better move would be to make a new version of the article in Draft space and submit it to AFC where a reviewer can assess whether or not this new version is an improvement that avoids the problems of the first version.
But, as the AFD closure, I can not overrule the decision of the discussion participants and restore the article to main space. That has to either come from a DRV decision to overrule the closure or through presenting a new draft that addresses the problems AFD participants saw in the AFD discussion. LizRead!Talk!05:22, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Japan Socialist Party exists, but the stated leader and secretary hold those positions in a different party. It was also part of the user's mostly deleted alternate history project, which related to that party being in control of Japan. I would have explained that in the speedy deletion nomination, but Twinkle apparently does not allow for the hoax speedy deletion reason to be bundled with anything else. I am not particularly inclined to fight this, but I wanted to make my reasoning clear. However, I am a bit tempted to get the bundling problem fixed. ―SusmuffinTalk22:53, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there is no room for commentary in a CSD tag. I forget what namespace this was in. Was it Draft space? If it was in main space, we could try a PROD tag. I appreciate the fuller explanation, thank you. LizRead!Talk!05:15, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello, and welcome to the September newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since June.
Election news: Project coordinators play an important role in our WikiProject. Following the mid-year Election of Coordinators, we welcomed TNM101 to the coordinator team. Dhtwiki remains as lead coordinator, and Miniapolis, Mox Eden and GoldRomean return as coordinators. We said goodbye to Wikieditor662 and thank them for their service. If you'd like to help out behind the scenes, please consider taking part in our December election–watchlist our ombox for updates. Information about the role of coordinators can be found here.
Reviewing system: The Guild is adopting a new system of scoring copy edit reviews. A point will be given for each review, and barnstars for reviewing will be awarded. These changes will take effect from this month's drive, and we encourage experienced copy editors to sign up for reviewing. For more details, see here.
June 2026 blitz: 18 of the 20 editors who signed up for the June 2026 Copy Editing Blitz copy edited a total of 69,606 words comprising 30 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.
July 2026 drive: 30 of the 44 editors who signed up for the July 2026 Backlog Elimination Drive copy edited a total of 531,346 words comprising 252 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.
August 2026 Blitz: 13 of the 16 editors who signed up for the August 2026 Copy Editing Blitz copy edited a total of 192,712 words comprising 64 articles. Barnstars awarded are here.
September 2026 Drive:Sign up here to earn barnstars in our month-long, in-progress September Backlog Elimination Drive.
Progress report: As of 23:47, 13 September 2026 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 207 requests since 1 January, and the backlog of tagged articles stands at 1,511 articles.
Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we do without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators.

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on August 28. Please help translate.
Baseline Neutral Point of View policy is now being introduced.
Highlights
Data center switch: All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on September 23 at 14:00 UTC as part of a scheduled switchover to allow for essential maintenance and improvements. A banner will be displayed on all wikis 30 minutes in advance.
Chart extension is now beginner-friendly: Creating graphs and charts previously required manual JSON editing. In response to a Community wish to make the Charts extension more user-friendly, a new Visual mode for adding values has been introduced.
TextMatch: A paste from an LLM triggering a Suggestion.
Introducing TextMatch: Communities are shaping Suggestion Mode with TextMatch to create custom suggestions that are tailored to their own policies and writing conventions. Share your feedback.
Visual editor becoming default: Design work on the user experience for visual editing for newcomers is underway. This follows visual editor becoming default on English Wikipedia following a community discussion.
Community Wishlist 2027 consultation: The consultation on the proposed new Wishlist process is closing this week. This year's cycle plans for wish submissions in late October/early November, triage completed by late November, and voting in early to mid January. Share feedback in any language on the talk page.
Improved Add a Link feature: Add a Link has been upgraded for English Wikipedia users with improved detection of links that have different capitalization. This will help reduce ambiguous suggestions caused by differences in capitalization in article titles, including articles about cultural goods.
Wikipedia Android app: Latest release includes updates to the Saved feature, bringing the app’s saving experience closer to iOS and Web. The update redesigns the Saved tab with an “All articles” view, removes the default “Saved” reading list, renames reading lists to “Collections,” and modernizes the article-saving experience.
Domain change for thumbnails: The domain of URLs for thumbnails is changing from upload.wikimedia.org to thumb.wikimedia.org. The old URLs will continue to work but MediaWiki will advertise the new domain instead. Original files, videos, and transcodes will still be served from upload.wikimedia.org.
Reading lists rollout continues on desktop: Following the initial deployment to Bengali, Chinese, Czech, and Vietnamese Wikipedias, reading lists went live on Arabic, French, and Indonesian Wikipedias and will go live on English Wikipedia on Sep 14, with all remaining wikis following on Sep 28.
New features of Pageviews Analysis: Several new features have been added to the Pageviews Analysis tool which allows users to compare pageviews across multiple pages. They include WikiNav which provides insights into how readers of Wikipedia explore the content, editing stats in Siteviews, the ability to lookup articles belonging to a WikiProject, and support for dark mode.
Article guidance: As part of an A/B experiment, Article guidance is now available in Turkish and Simple English.
Latest experiments: A current experiment for logged-out mobile readers on Bengali, Czech, English, Farsi, and Polish Wikipedias is testing whether simplifying the Minerva navigation bar improves reader retention. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Wikifunctions status updates: Thanks to all contributors, Wikifunctions has now reached 5,000 functions.
Latest highlights from Tech News: Weeks 36 and 37 of Tech News include the Article guidance feature is now enabled by default for editors with less than 100 edits on Simple English and Turkish Wikipedia.
Affiliates and grant funding: Have your say on proposals establishing (1) a new model and set of expectations for movement affiliates; (2) new, connected requirements to determine eligibility for receiving Community Fund grants from the Wikimedia Foundation; and (3) updated criteria for affiliate recognition processes.
Community Fund reflections: Read the reflections on the fiscal year 2025–2026 of the Rapid Fund and General Support Fund, covering $17.73 million across 427 grants in 90 countries, with 56.2% distributed outside North America and Northern & Western Europe.

It is an online collectible card game where players sort fact from fiction across Wikipedia articles to build their card library. The game is the latest experiment in reaching younger audiences through familiar formats, following Wikispeedia on Roblox and Which Came First? on the Wikipedia app.
Celebrate Women 2026:Read the impact of Celebrate Women 2026 as the campaign concluded with 112 events, 238,222 unreverted content edits and 2,499,773,577 bytes added.

Hello, I've been correcting misnested span tag errors this week, many from an "Editor of the Week award" userbox, and have cleared all from userspace with the exception of one on your userpage. I am unable to edit this myself, so would you be willing to correct
Editor of the Week award]]</span>.}}

Editor of the Week award</span>]].}}
moving the closing span to within the wikilink? This box is towards the bottom of your userpage.
Don't blink, don't even blink... Blink, and you'll miss the new edition of the newsletter
Hello Whopedians (see what I did there?)! We're here again with the latest issue of the Space-Time Telegraph, where we have all the latest information on your favorite niche corner of Wikipedia, and wider happenings across the franchise. Dig in and enjoy!
I like Quality Articles. Quality Articles are good.
Since the publication of the last newsletter, several updates to quality content have occurred. Fifteenth Doctor has been promoted to GA status, and subsequently the Fifteenth Doctor Good Topic has been promoted, indicating that all major articles associated with the incarnation have been improved to GA status! Congratulations to all who have helped with this massive milestone.
At present, we are currently at 28 total Good Articles promoted this year, and hopefully if we keep up the pace this will be our second most productive year on record (Beating 2012's 36, though still a fair bit behind the over 50 articles from 2025). That said, on top of those new promotions, there are numerous nominations currently in the queue, and several articles and Good Topic projects currently in the works, so make sure to keep improving and reviewing articles for the project! Every step counts to improving our coverage of this show. Congratulations to all who have improved content in the past few months!
It's the End of the WorldDoctor Who as We Know It (and I (Do Not) Feel Fine)
In June, the BBC officially announced that the previously publicized 2026 Doctor Who Christmas special, was no more. The news was accompanied by a plethora of other information, most notably that showrunner Russell T Davies and producer Bad Wolf would be departing the programme, thereby allowing the BBC to issue an Invitation to tender.
Davies revealed that the special was merely a ruse to satisfy audiences as the future of it was unknown, stating that no script was ever written and no performers approached. This does however, conflict with reports from composer Murray Gold, who suggested that Davies had authored multiple versions of a script.
Since this announcement, many rumors have arisen suggesting that several studios/networks are interested in taking the reigns of Who. Among these, are longtime producer of the show BBC Studios, HBO/HBO Max, Amazon/Prime Video, World Productions, and Electric Entertainment. Netflix, meanwhile, has taken its hat out of the ring, with an executive stating they believe Doctor Who's belongs with the Beeb.
While these rumors will likely only continue to grow, the tender invitation has only recently been formally published, so it remains to be seen what, if any, future the series has. If Who does find a new production partner, no cast or crew is currently signed onto the series. The rumor mill is also running wild on who the next showrunner should be, with names such as Pete McTighe, Jack Thorne, Mark Gatiss, and many others, all being mentioned.
Once the above is all resolved, sorted, and tucked away nicely, the biggest question of course, becomes what do you do with that cliffhanger...
Intelligence Bulletin from the Subwave Network
The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit will receive a limited theatrical release on 23 November to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). The special omnibus format of the story includes previously unreleased material as well as an interview with an unspecified guest. Listings for the showing have so far appeared on some British, Canadian, and Irish cinema pages, but it is unknown where, if anywhere else, it will be shown.
Darvill has also teamed up with former co-star and on-screen wife Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) for "The Pondcast", an upcoming Doctor Whorewatch podcast from their time together on the show. Ex-Who boss Steven Moffat, has also been confirmed as a guest on their upcoming show.
Funko revealed a new range of Doctor Who Pop figures featuring the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Fourteenth Doctors, as well as River Song and a Dalek due for release in October.
Big Finish will also be publishing hardback replicas of the Radio Times tenth and twentieth Who anniversary specials, first released by BBC Magazines in 1973 and 1983, respectively.
The BBC has revealed in their invitation to tender the series, that the next series of Doctor Who will tentatively air in 2028 or 2029.
Their songs have ended... but their stories never end 🌹
Since the previous issue was published, a number of people related to the Whoniverse have sadly passed away and some who passed away before the previous issue only had their deaths announced recently:
14 April – Heather Carney, 95, daughter of William Hartnell who helped her daughter write Hartnell's biography and contributed recollections featured in Vworp Vworp! issue 6

I'm currently dealing with a user who has been continually changing the logo on the McLaren article to one that is very lightly sourced and uncommonly used. Myself and another editor have been trying to express to them why that is the incorrect logo, but they just keep doubling down and insulting me in the talk page discussion. I've tried to disengage from the discussion given their personal attacks, but after a couple days they just decide to revert it again. I'm not sure if this reaches the level for an ANI so I figured I'd just ask an admin first. Any advice/help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks! October 2026 Administrator Elections – Call for Candidates
Latest comment: 1 month ago1 comment1 person in discussion
The administrator elections process has officially started! Qualified editors are encouraged to find at least one experienced nominator. Self-nominations are also allowed. Please review instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
September 29–October 5: Nominations phase (we are here)
October 8–12: Discussion phase
October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed. However, in practice, few candidates succeed without ~10K edits, some content creation, no recent behavioral issues, and a nominator.

Starter Kit dashboard overview.
Highlights
Introducing the Wikipedia Starter Kit: The Foundation has launched a new Toolforge-hosted tool giving new and small language Wikipedia communities a guided pathway through essential onboarding tasks, activity indicators, and connections to the wider movement.
Apply for a scholarship to Wikimania 2027: Scholarship applications are now open to attend Wikimania 2027 in Santiago. To help with preparing submissions, orientation sessions in Spanish, Portuguese, and English will be held starting the week of October 5. The final deadline is October 31.
Reading Lists rolling out to all Wikipedias: Starting September 28, logged-in users on every Wikipedia will be able to save articles to a "read later" list using the bookmark icon, following successful rollouts on Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Czech, English, French, Indonesian, and Vietnamese Wikipedias.

The 2026 appointment cycle is open now through 31 October 2026 for the Ombuds Commission (OC) and the Case Review Committee (CRC). You can learn more about the committees, the roles, and how to apply on the Committee Appointments page on Meta-wiki.
Community Wishlist 2027: The Community Wishlist Process is now updated, taking into account the feedback received. Look out for the call for wish submissions towards the end of October.
Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2026: From Sep 18-20, Wikimedians, open-knowledge researchers, and free-culture advocates from Central and Eastern Europe gathered for the first time in Romania. Take a look at the novelties and history behind CEE Meeting.
Increasing account creation: To convert more casual users into logged-in daily users, the evergreen account creation prompt is released into Beta / TestFlight for iOS and Android. Also, a new post-edit notice designed to encourage Temporary Account holders to register for a permanent account will now be released to all wikis. The new notice has proven to increase permanent account creation from 1.94% to 3.66%.
VisualEditoris now the default at English Wikipedia: this wiki has now adopted VisualEditor as the default editor on both desktop and mobile web, following a sitewide discussion that found overwhelming consensus to make the change.
Retesting image carousel: The image carousel experiment will be retested using three new versions of the design, updated based on community feedback. The team will assess results and determine with communities whether or not to proceed with the feature.
Wikifunctions: Your code can now call back to the Wikidata fetch functions. Wikifunctions have deployed an initial capability by which a code Implementation (in JavaScript or Python) can call certain other Wikifunctions Functions, get back the result, and have it available for further processing.
Latest experiments: A current experiment is testing whether offering a "generic guidance" path for Article Guidance that does not depend on a Wikidata match would increase the chances of more article creation attempts. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 38 and 39 include a Reader Growth experiment testing whether showing only part of an article at first on mobile, with a “Read more” button to reveal the rest, encourages people to keep reading. See also the 56 community-submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Suggestions for Transliterated Search: If you regularly use two different writing systems (such as Hindi and Latin alphabet), sometimes you accidentally type with the wrong one and need to switch to the right keyboard. Now, this gadget will be able to suggest query based on what you typed.
LLM Paste Check rolling out to Wikipedia: A new Edit Check will prompt editors who paste text likely copied from an external AI chatbot to consider whether it aligns with movement AI-use policies and decide whether to keep or remove it. It goes live as a default-on feature at English Wikipedia on Sep 24 and at all Wikipedias on Oct 8.
Wikidata bulk downloads now free via Wikimedia Enterprise: New beta API endpoints let anyone download full Wikidata snapshots and pull hourly batch diffs at no cost, opening up bulk access that previously required a paid tier.
Accountability for Wikimedia production services: To ensure clear accountability for responding to incidents in Wikimedia production services, Wikimedia Foundation published the Service Catalog page. The page is the canonical source of service ownership for code deployed to the Wikimedia Foundation cluster. See also FAQ pages which contain more background details.
Datacenter switchover has been postponed:The equinox exercise revealed capacity issues, preventing the switch of all services to the other datacenter. The process has been paused, prioritizing investigating that issue, to ensure that we continue to be able to serve our users reliably. A new exercise will be scheduled. Meanwhile, all traffic and edits continue to work as usual.
Affiliates and grant funding: The conversations on the new proposed model, requirements and criteria continues until the end of next week with public calls on 1) Tuesday, September 29, 16:00-17:00 UTC on affiliate growth paths and Friday, October 2nd, 17:00-18:00 UTC on affiliate overlaps.
AI literacy program: A new regional initiative in ASEAN was launched to support training and conversations around AI literacy, accountability, and Indigenous self-determination.
Testing Google preferred sources: An experiment is proposed on English Wikipedia to run a temporary (2-week) notice asking readers who come from Google to set Wikipedia as a “preferred source” in Google. We would see if this causes people who use Google to visit Wikipedia more. If your language wiki is interested, please reach out on the project's talk page.

If you could please send me this article to my sandbox. I am working to get this article back active/approved for creation, and I unfortunately don't have access to the information that was present on the old article, and I've looked and looked, and I cannot find it. So if I could have the most recent revision of this article please. Thank you. ☼Phrasia☼ (talk) 08:11, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not inclined to do this. There was a firm majority consensus to delete this article which was supported by a Deletion review you filed. And this is an enormous article. What could you do to change what it basically is, which is a list of songs? I don't want you to just move this back into main space after a few cosmetic changes. Are you planning on posting this information somewhere else on the Internet? LizRead!Talk!21:31, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Hello Liz,
Thank you for clarifying your stance. Since we have a disagreement regarding the restoration of the wikitext, (which yes I did explain I wanted to use it for specific restructuring and formatting), I will take the request to the public Requests for Undeletion board (WP:REFUND), as I don't want to lie to you and say "I'm not planning on resubmitting/putting the article under a new review", because you are correct with your assumption, I am planning to do that, which for those reasons, is why you are not honoring my request/favor. So I am going over there, for a broader administrative review. I appreciate your time and your feedback. Thank you very much." ☼Phrasia☼ (talk) 23:24, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
No as the article needs to be on wiki, and despite not necessarily feeling what I'm being told is true/contradictory to Wiki rules, and ultimately not knowing what steps to take next, I'm going to try thrice as hard, to find a way for this article to be added. I respect your stance, but I also respectfully disagree. Your advice/recommendations are in good faith I'll say that; I will admit the "just put it on a fandom wiki" if rhythm/music game soundtrack lists were not allowed on Wiki (they are), and didn't follow Wiki rules (They do). The most blatant issue people are using the WPDatabase issue, (which doesn't apply here). I will until the cows come home disagree with that, as WPDatabase refers to putting a list of trivial technical/computer versions/editions, or RPG/Video Game level incidentals on Wikipedia which isn't the case here. If the article is too long (which yes the admin did slightly hint to this sort of?) it can be separated into eras/years. Maybe changing the title from "List" to "Music" as "List" seems less Database ish, and Music is more soundtrack/music/allowed, if that matters? As seen here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Dance_Dance_Revolution_(2013-present) I simply just asked the admin for a copy of the article, and they refused (which is fine) But it has over three thousand some entries (which I lost the hard drive I had this info backed up to). I don't know (other than suggesting "a fandom wiki" In this case no it's not a fictional/fanfiction/trivial franchise, or trivial video game information) what else to generally do so that I'm not breaking Wiki rules and this article isn't breaking rules. Which is why I'm asking Wiki staff for help. Music is the "core" of Dance Dance Revolution, (original or licensed music) without it, there would be no game etc. If you would all meet me halfway, I would be less vexed, and less confused but yes. ☼Phrasia☼ (talk) 21:54, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Mumble. Hadn't seen that the first had just been (re)created, just that the second looked sort of similar to the deleted page but had a much longer history. (Also hadn't seen that the second page had already been mentioned here; I found it independently when I went looking for a merge target.) —Cryptic05:16, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, could you please block this user? They have been extensively making disruptive edits after a final warning from multiple people. Thanks in advance, ✦Inzessin✦(talk)23:33, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I usually don't just block when asked to but I saw that every single one of their edits had been reverted. Just a notice to you and other patrollers, after a vandal has received a dozen "You will be blocked" messages and hasn't responded to any message, you can stop posting additional ones. LizRead!Talk!23:44, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your action. And I agree with the 'spamming warnings' thing as well (but I didn't leave any on their talk page to be fair). Sincerely, ✦Inzessin✦(talk)23:47, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

My draft was deleted because it hadn't been edited in five or six months. I was planning on editing the article further. Severe thunderstorms, however, recently in mid-June knocked out my Gateway computer and that no longer works. That's why I didn't edit Wikipedia or Simple English Wikipedia for almost three months. Can somebody please undelete the draft so that it can be properly updated and edited with Correction, Liz? Angela Kate MaureenPears17:36, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done You don't need to provide an explanation to me, drafts that are deleted due to inactivity are restored upon request as long as it isn't the 4th or 5th time that this request has been made! Good luck with your work. LizRead!Talk!18:26, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.
Technical news
Interface administrators no longer need to specify the ResourceLoader option in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded through ResourceLoader. (T298199)
The list=abusefilters API module now supports formatversion=2 and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, the actions property is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)
Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.
Yes, that was an unfinished discussion. I wouldn't be restoring a draft article, I'd be restoring an article deleted through an AFD to Draft space. Before I do so, please confirm that you understand that you can't just move the article back to main space or else the article will be deleted as a CSD G4. You must submit it to be reviewed by an AFC reviewer before it can be considered to be back in main space. Thank you. LizRead!Talk!23:02, 4 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Certainly, I will submit it for review. First, I will check the status of the draft, then I will try to supplement it with third-party sources (the alleged lack of which was a reason for its deletion), and finally, I will submit it for review. Scia Della Cometa (talk) 21:35, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, I haven't gathered whether you intend to help me restore the draft... the page was deleted with only two favorable opinions, based on the premise that there were no sources...--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 21:12, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
October 2026 Administrator Elections – Discussion Phase
On 13 Oct, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for.
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase (we are here)
Scrutineering phase

The test will explore whether removing friction from the current Welcome Survey helps new users understand what to do next more easily.
Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment is testing a personalised module, called 'Review Changes', for Home which aims to introduce newer editors to the concept of reviewing the edits that other users are making. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 40 and 41 include users of default skins on desktop and mobile web will now be informed if the search results displayed come from page redirects. See also the 20 community-submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Improving developers experience: Two new features has been shipped to improve developer experience: Spiderpig (deployment web interface) which allows developers to leave notes for each other about errors they see in the logs and Patchdemo, which now supports in-browser code editing, so developers can make quick changes without needing to push a new patch and recreate the demo.
Strengthening infrastructure: To reduce the workload from non-pageview requests, the overall number of database queries per logged-out pageview has been reduced by 52%, from a baseline of 23 queries/pageview in August, to 11 queries/pageview today. Read more.
Increasing test reliability: To reduce friction in post-merge validation and ultimately improve confidence in release decisions: Catalyst was proven to be a much more reliable environment to run daily Selenium tests (95.7% eventually green) compared with the beta cluster (79.1% over the same 10 suites). This gives confidence to automatically catch issues before they reach production.
Transparency Report: The latest Transparency Report has been published. Out of 953 requests for content alteration and takedown, only 2 requests were granted. The Foundation continues to prioritize the public interest and is guided by the content moderation policies the volunteer community has shaped over the past 25 years.
Affiliations Committee: Wikimedia Affiliations Committee Has New Officers and Advisors. Read also the latest issue of the AffCom News to learn more about their work.
Board of Trustees Elections Process: The Board has reviewed the feedback received since July on its elections process proposal, and thanks everyone who shared input on Wiki, in person, or directly with Trustees. Based on that feedback, the Governance Committee has moved away from the eligibility criteria approach and developed two new options for the 2027 selection process and beyond. We'd like your feedback again before deciding. Please read the proposal and share your feedback on the Meta-Wiki talk page by October 27.

Hi Liz, you apparantly erased our page Fr. Ray Sponsor a Child Foundation,
Can you restore it please. We are a valid charity , dont advertise, dont collect donations but donate about $100,000 yr to charities like Feeding America and Boys Town amoung others. Sometimes we refer people to our wikipedia page
so it would help if it was still there —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grenachx (talk • contribs) 20:59, 20 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz, I saw this page in CAT:CSD—it looks like you just created it to keep from breaking the double redirects, so I rollbacked all the bot edits (so that nothing redirects there anymore) and then deleted it. Let me know if I've misunderstood or inadvertently caused some other problem. Hope you're well! Extraordinary Writ (talk) 05:23, 23 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I greatly appreciate you finding a better solution than my own. I just wish more editors would check "What links here" before tagging pages for deletion. It's not uncommon to find dozens of broken deletes on the AnomieBot page after a vandal moves a popular or longstanding article. Editors are eager to move the article back to the right page title but our bots are even faster at changing all of the existing redirects to the new bad title and they are slow to correct the double redirect. When it's just a few redirects, I change them manually but when it is dozens, I try to let the bots handle it. Thanks again. LizRead!Talk!05:49, 23 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that deliberately ignoring someone who is politely asking you something seems to me simply discourteous... You could have responded by stating whether or not you agreed with my proposal, instead, your behavior is not collaborative... Since you aren't replying, I will go ahead and restore this page (and also the one about the ICMLPO (International Newsletter)) myself (which, after all, were deleted with only two dissenting opinions), translating them from other language editions...--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 21:11, 24 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Request to restore Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid to draft
Latest comment: 6 days ago1 comment1 person in discussion
Hi Liz, following up on my earlier request. Would you be willing to restore the deleted Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid article to draftspace so I can rework it? I understand the concerns raised at AfD about promotional tone and independent sourcing. I plan to rebuild it as a neutral specification history based on independent sources, including SAE technical papers 952348 (1995) and 972927 (1997) and period technical literature, and to submit it through AfC rather than moving it back to mainspace myself. Vanamonde93 recently restored the companion Chrysler article to draft on the same basis. Thank you for considering it. Hymn62 (talk) 16:40, 28 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is a quick overview of highlights from the Wikimedia Foundation since our last issue on October 9. Please help translate.
Mobile users can now edit with visual editors
Highlights
Community Wishlist: The process for this year’s Community Wishlist has been published, incorporating community feedback. The wish submission process will end on November 8. The triage is expected to be completed by late November. Votes for wishes will start in January.
Behind the scenes: What happened on 25 August as hundreds of edits were made to Dolly Parton's article on English and German Wikipedia – and why code stewardship and the Service Catalog matter.
The new Image Carousel treatment experience that will be tested
Identifying LLM edits easily: LLM Paste Check is now available on all Wikipedias. The feature will notify editors using the visual editor when they paste text that is likely to have initially been copied from one of five external generative AI chatbots. Edits will also be tagged so that patrollers can review them more closely.
The Future of Wikimedia Hackathon:A proposal to hold the Wikimedia Hackathon every three years, with regional hackathons in between has been shared. It explores making the event more accessible to technical communities in different regions. Share your feedback on the proposal’s talk page before November 6.
Re-testing Image Carousel on readers: Starting November 20, a test for Image Carousel will run for logged-out readers. Readers will browse community-uploaded images, selected by editors as relevant to specific articles. It will measure the impact of incorporating some community-requested features on logged-out reader retention.
Changes to Watchlist view: Moderator Tools will be removing the list view of the Watchlist and defaulting everyone to the changelog view. By defaulting to the changelog view, we are simplifying the codebase and avoiding the likelihood of missing bugs.
Wikifunctions quarterly planning: For October–December 2026, Wikifunctions will focus on two main areas: working with pilot communities towards bringing abstract articles into their Wikipedias, and making it easier to create and edit articles on Abstract Wikipedia.
Suggestion Mode: To encourage newcomers to publish their first suggestion when using Suggestion Mode, implementation of the publish prompt on mobile has been completed.
Onboarding newcomers: To encourage new editors to make their first edit, the early onboarding A/B test went live.
Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News weeks 42 and 43 include CodeMirror syntax highlighting was enabled by default for all logged out and newly registered users on the English Wikipedia. See also the 54 community-submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.
Open geospatial dataset now released: Wikimedia Enterprise has released an open geospatial dataset containing 17 million OpenStreetMap elements linked to Wikidata, Wikipedia, and Wikivoyage, as Parquet and GeoParquet files on Hugging Face and Kaggle.
Better bot detection: There is a new bot detection system for traffic to the Wikimedia wikis. There might be sudden changes to visitor statistics starting on 26 October and going back to 20 June. This is because we will now be better at finding automated traffic which is trying to hide that it is coming from bots.
The Wikipedia Library: Datawrapper is now available in The Wikipedia Library. This is a data visualisation platform to create and publish responsive charts, maps, and tables. If you're a contributor who qualifies for TWL, please feel free to apply for access and make use of this tool.

There's nearly 25000, though the only other elections ones are for the US as a whole (various years, eg 1835 United States elections1835 United States elections) and Iraq (2014 only for some reason, 2014 Iraq election2014 Iraq election and six others). It happens to be the reason I was watching the page - it had already been incorrectly speedied as cross-namespace recently.I assume you found it from a query, since it hadn't been tagged speedy? I might be able to fix it up to look for recent moves. (But no promises; logs are tricky to query efficiently, and page move logs in particular are a mess.) —Cryptic20:45, 29 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Send Halloween cheer by adding {{subst:Happy Halloween}} to user talk pages with a friendly message.
Zahrazamedahmedi has given you some caramel and a candy apple! Caramel and candy-coated apples are fun Halloween treats, and promote WikiLove on Halloween. Hopefully these have made your Halloween (and the preceding days) much sweeter. Happy Halloween!
'"On Psych, A USA Network TV series Episode 8, The Tao of Gus, Season 6, Shawn refers to pumpkins as "Halloween Apples" because he thinks all round fruits are a type of apple.
Following an RfC, election to ArbCom now requires at least 60% support. Successful candidates normally serve two-year terms, with one-year terms retained for filling vacancies. Proposals to change the election rules may now be added throughout the year and discussed on the talk page; formal discussion remains in September.
Following an RfC, first-time reviewers’ reviews require an experienced reviewer’s check, and GA requirements now include alt text and accessible tables. Featured articles may receive GA status during removal discussions if they meet GA criteria. Backlog drives will run every five months, with a points leaderboard and awards for the top five participants.
Miscellaneous
Self-nominations for the Arbitration Committee are open until 11 November 2026.

Hello Liz,
I am contacting you regarding the deletion of the English Wikipedia article about me, Adriano Ruchini, on 11 July 2025.
I would like to clarify that I never created, edited or published the article myself, nor do I know how to do so.
I only became aware that the article had disappeared after receiving unsolicited emails from people offering to restore my Wikipedia page in exchange for payment. This prompted me to check Wikipedia directly and discover the deletion.
The article had been publicly available for many years, and I was therefore surprised to find that it had been deleted.
I would very much like to see the original article restored to public view.
I have no intention of paying anyone to create or restore a Wikipedia page, or of using Wikipedia for promotional purposes. I simply believe that my existing biographical record, supported by the available independent publications and institutional sources, deserves a fair reassessment.
Would you be willing to reconsider the deletion and assist with restoring the article?
First, do not respond to anyone asking you for money. That's not how Wikipedia operates and these scammers have no control over restoration of deleted articles. They'll take your money and then cut off contact with you.
Adriano Ruchini was deleted after an AFD deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adriano Ruchini. You can review this discussion to see why some editors believed the article should be deleted. I just assessed the consensus of the discussion and carried out this consensus, I have no opinion of this article and whether or not it should be on Wikipedia.
There are two options you might take. You, or another editor can see the reason articulated in the AFD discussion and write a new draft article that addresses these problems. If you think I didn't assess the consensus appropriately, you can appeal the decision at Wikipedia:Deletion review. You'll have to present a compelling argument. But those are the two options I see you can take.
If you have more questions about editing on Wikipedia or how we make deletion decisions, please bring them to the Teahouse and experienced editors will offer you advice and support. Good luck. LizRead!Talk!06:27, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Liz, Hope this email finds you well. I'm requesting restoration of the article Denise White, which you deleted on 26 July 2024 as an expired PROD. I am the subject of the article and am disclosing that conflict of interest. I contest the deletion: in addition to the pageant title, the subject is the founder and CEO of EAG Sports Management (founded 1996), was named a Sports Business Journal "Game Changer" in 2016, has served as a CNN sports contributor, and her career has received independent coverage including Sports Business Journal, Men's Journal, Front Office Sports, NBC Sports, and reporting on a planned film about her life. I will not edit the article directly and will suggest improvements on the talk page. Thank you for your time. ~~~. Please see links to articles that will confirm.
Thanks for the head's up but I haven't closed any AFDs for a few months now. You might be thinking of Proposed deletions. I've deleted some of those recently. LizRead!Talk!06:16, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh, you're right, they were indeed PRODs. There's actually quite a large number of lists and disambiguation pages where you left unlinked entries, would you be willing to help clean them up? –dlthewave☎12:18, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
