[edit]Hi, following our conversation at the help desk, I created The Queens Closet Opened (Q141804361) in Wikidata and a Commons category and linked several existing pages to them. TSventon (talk) 21:04, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oh that's great, thanks TSventon. I don't really create items on Wikidata -- should I be? While you're here, I may leave my response I typed up to the help desk thread here, since my question of whether anything has been written has really been answered.
- Thanks for having a look at this. I have some more sources to bring in and just published it unfinished so you could see what I was referring to, though I will have to check out any accessible via TWL when the PHP issue is resolved. I understand the thesis will be fine, as it was for a PhD and has been cited dozens of times in reputable publications, making it among the most influential thesis in food history of the last 20 years. I like much of your advice and will bring it in, though I'll push back on the idea that probability isn't a fact. I don't believe that's true, and I don't believe it's treated as such on Wikipedia, see for instance the FA Battle of Hastings. Expressions of probability are merely one of many forms of interpretive claims, e.g. causation, which are routinely put in wikivoice. Whonting (talk) 23:25, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, my answers were aimed at answering your questions and helping you reach your own decisions on whether to attribute or not, so I don't expect you to agree with every detail.
- You don't need to create Wikidata items, under normal circumstances a bot will create them, but without much detail. It is often easiest to find a similar item and copy or adapt it as necessary for the new item. TSventon (talk) 02:47, 22 October 2026 (UTC)
- Incidentally, when you mentioned causation, were you thinking of David Hume#Induction and causation? TSventon (talk) 22:31, 22 October 2026 (UTC)
- Not quite so high level, I had in mind the inability for counterfactuals to be observed. In a practical sense, this is particularly visible on wiki in background sections, where explanations and credit to social and economic factors are presented without attribution. Question about DYK
[edit]Hi, thanks for reviewing and approving my DYK nomination. I wanted to ask how I can see what happens to it from now on? I know these things can take a while, but I can't see where my nomination now appears. I'm just unfamiliar with the process really, it's my first time. Samuelshraga (talk) 12:53, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
- Hey @Samuelshraga. I can see your DYK nom at Template talk:Did you know/Approved, although it appears due to WP:PEIS limits it has been collapsed until some of the older DYKs get scheduled. It's difficult to say how long your nom will take to be approved. I know some may never be approved and time out, but I think yours is safely on the side of interesting that it may just a bit of a wait. Whonting (talk) 13:11, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
- Great! Thanks very much. Samuelshraga (talk) 13:27, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Samuelshraga there is a "Count of DYK nominations" at Template talk:Did you know/Approved with 452 nominations, which is about 50 days at 9 a day. Unfortunately that means you may have to wait 50 days from 15 October before your nomination is promoted to a prep list. Of course the wait could be shorter or longer. TSventon (talk) 18:17, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oh that's fine. I don't mind waiting, I just didn't know how to see what had happened to my nomination. Samuelshraga (talk) 20:43, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

October 2026
[edit]Heyo. Regarding your recent edits to Alla Wolf-Tasker when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Specifying |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= needs to be defined in the template in order to work. You can look at the documentation for the template being used, but it is also helpful to use the preview button before saving an edit; this helps find any errors that have been made and ensures that the values added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is highly recommended that editors use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions of if I can help explain further, please let me know!
Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:40, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Zackmann08, I added this in visual editor, by ticking "honorific suffix" in the Template:Infobox chef panel. I would assume this is an issue with the infobox template itself, especially since when I now look at what you have changed it to, visual editor flags honorific_suffix as an "undocumented parameter". Whonting (talk) 00:47, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting me know! The code for the visual editor was wrong and I have fixed that. All good. Thanks for the ping. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:54, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
