firstnam.es is a reference site about first names: how many people bear each name and in which countries, together with its origin, its variants and diminutives, its equivalents in other languages and the names it is usually combined with. With data from more than 230 countries and territories and content in 8 languages, it belongs to the same network as surnam.es, dedicated to the surnames of the world.
Our mission
To make information about first names — where they are used, how many people bear them and where they come from — accessible to everyone, in their own language and free of charge. A name is the first decision made on someone's behalf, and it deserves real data, not just lists of trends.
What we offer
- Name pages with the number of bearers per country, the distribution map and the world ranking.
- Names by country: the most frequent ones in each, plus boy and girl lists.
- Lists by letter, overall and by sex, for anyone looking for a name that starts a certain way.
- Diminutives, equivalents and variants of each name in other languages, and the names related to it.
- Compound names and names that go well with a surname.
- Blog with articles on the origin and history of names.
Our values
Accuracy
Every published figure comes from an identified public source and goes through normalization and cross-checking. We do not make data up: when we lack sufficient data on a name, its page is not offered to search engines.
Accessibility
All information is free, with no registration or subscription, and available in 8 languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Dutch.
Transparency
Our methodology page explains where the data comes from, what each figure measures and what its limitations are. If you spot an error, you can write to us from this very page.
Project history
The project was born as a natural extension of our surname sites: after answering "where is my surname?", the next question was "and my first name?". What started as an experiment with frequency data from a handful of countries has grown, over the years, into one of the most consulted first-name databases, with millions of visitors a year.
Technology
The platform is optimized to load fast and work well on mobile, following web performance best practices and Google's Core Web Vitals standards.
Contact
