A small clarification about locale in Archinstall #3350
Hi,
during the language setup in Archinstall, is there any difference between what’s shown in image 1 and image 2? I usually go with *.UTF-8, but I noticed that the default is en_US without .UTF-8.
Is this just a visual/formatting detail, or does it have any practical impact on the generated system locale?
There's a difference, en_US uses the character set ISO-8859-1 which is older and cannot display as many characters as the more modern UTF-8 format. So by choosing en_US.UTF-8 you'll be able to display more characters that may not be displayable with the older ISO format.

Looking at the code https://github.com/svartkanin/archinstall/blob/db79b4d20c00bfede9ddc3428f08d0ca6862809a/archinstall/lib/models/locale.py?plain=1#L23-L25 yes we do set
en_USas default, we may wanna update that to the more modern standard which also seems to be referenced in the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LocaleSalvatoreNoschese commentedon Apr 7, 2025
