#13  When you stand, therefore, in front of the shrine to worship,  you see your own image reflected on its shining surface,  and  the act of worship is tantamount to the old Delphic injunction,  “Know Thyself.”

私の訳：この故に人がもし神前に立って拝礼する時は、鏡の輝く面に映る自分の姿を見るであろう。かくてその礼拝の行為は、「汝自身を知れ」という旧きデルフィの神託と同一である。

the old Delphic injunction   デルフォイの神託

デルフィの神託（デルフォイの神託）とは、古代ギリシアの聖地デルフィにあるアポロン神殿で、巫女（ピュティア）が神の言葉を伝えた預言のことです。
デルフィの神託の特徴

• 世界の中心：デルフィは古代ギリシア世界の中央と信じられ、「大地のへそ」と呼ばれました。

• 巫女ピュティア：トランス状態（神懸かり状態）になった女性の予言者「ピュティア」が、アポロンの言葉を語りました。

• 国家の重大決定：戦争や植民都市の建設など、ポリスの命運を左右する判断に大きな影響を与えました。

• 有名な格言：アポロン神殿の入口には「汝自身を知れ」という言葉が掲げられていました。
