As an immigrant, at first i thought it was crazy how extremely celebrated it was (not complaining about it happening though). But now that I studied US pol sci, govt ans history, I think the huge celebration is warranted. State constituion is POWERFUL. It's nearly improbable to get a law that has nothing to do with national security on the federal level. The states are like mini countries, with their own criminal codes and whatnot. So yeah, it was really celebrated coz it's so hard to get 50 virtually autonomous states to all agree at once
@MaviMavi Yeah, I keep telling my non-American friends "Don't think of America as one country, think of us as about fifty little countries that can all barely stand each other."
And thus birthed the San Juan National Historical Park.
I really laugh when I try to imagine the Americans bringing out their cannons and the British their warships, yet both sides were throwing insults in an attempt to get the other fire first. Like, "I wanna shoot their stupid butt but i can't coz they're not firing yet. I'll call their mom a hay muncher and see if that'll work"
Here's the real kicker: despite not having universal healthcare, Americans are actually paying the highest healthcare tax in the world. There are a lot of literature about this, but you can watch this video on youtube. Its only 9 mins i think. Basically, they point out the same thing. It turns out, the public healthcare in the US is the same as other countries. The biggest difference is the private sector. The combination of both allows health service providers to keep raising asking price, to put simply.
@MaviMavi Being able to patent things on which people depend for staying alive without being limited in how much you can charge for it is a recipe for disaster indeed. I think some European countries are starting to realise this and look for the best way to move forward and keep medicine affordable without impeding innovation. It's a complex matter though, and while none of the possible solutions are even remotely similar to one another, all are quite radical. So this'll probably take some decades to figure out and do well. And then of course America will do things entirely differently because we've chosen the "communist" solution :P
@Zeust omg, i was gonna reply that i totally agree with you, but my phone froze, so i just kept tapping the screen. Then it unforze at the wrong time. Long story short, i ended up accidentally tapping the "report comment" button. I AM SO SORRY.

@MaviMavi #9743122 It's ok, like 95% of all reported comments are reported by accident, especially by people on phones and tablets. Moderators judge every reported comment individually and decide whether to delete the comment or leave it up. I see another mod has already decided to leave my comment up, so all you did was take like 5 seconds of his time... No biggie! Seriously this happens like all the time, and I myself accidentally reported a comment once or twice as well, so no need to feel bad.
Must have been a party trying to constantly convince them.
"Good god, you can't see what you're eating. Just pay for the damn lights already"
"Hissss I live in darkness now"
Lol, experienced this too. Worse is that the people I was with were my own countrymen, but we still speak different native languages. They thought I could understand them. Nope! Sorry kiddos.
