Submit a Story to SOURCE
Editor’s note: If you receive an error message after submitting a news item, just wait about 10 minutes and try again. We have an anti-spam/bot tool that is sensitive; thanks for your patience.
SOURCE welcomes news items and story ideas from and about Colorado State University students, faculty and staff. Only items submitted by CSU employees, students, registered student organizations, departments, offices, or other CSU-affiliated organizations will be considered for posting to SOURCE. Approved items will be placed into the appropriate category by the editor. Submissions to be considered for inclusion in a SOURCE e-newsletter must be received by 10 a.m. the day before the email runs.
Categories are listed below with examples of content.
- Latest headlines (news and stories about teaching and learning, research, outreach, and breaking university news of interest to the entire CSU community and/or beyond).
- Campus announcements (announcements about HR, benefits, parking, construction and similar administrative messages).
- Major events (most events should just be posted on the University Events Calendar).
- Research briefs (research briefs are limited to 200 words).
- Study recruitment (Submissions that aim to recruit subjects for research studies do not have the same 200-word limit, but must include the Institutional Review Board approval number. They must also include the IRB approval letter and approved recruitment language as an attachment).
- Applause (briefs about honors, awards or other recognitions for CSU community members, from entities outside their division, college or organization. No more than 200 words.)
Announcements of major events will be considered, but also must be submitted to the University Event Calendar. News and stories submitted to SOURCE will be reviewed within 48 hours, excluding weekends. Approved items will be edited and posted in the order they are received.
Editing policy
Your submission may be edited for length or content. Not all submissions will be selected for inclusion on SOURCE. Submissions for the Applause section and research briefs should be no longer than 200 words and will be edited for length. Here are a few tips about our house style:
• We use down-style, or sentence case, in headlines, which means all words after the first word are lowercase unless they are proper nouns.
• We do not use the Oxford, or serial, comma, per AP style.
• We don’t use ampersands unless they are part of a formal name.
• We only use the title “Dr.” before names if the faculty member is a medical doctor or veterinarian.
• We only capitalize a person’s title when it comes directly before their name.
Guidelines for businesses & advertising
Businesses located on campus may be eligible to submit news items to SOURCE. Examples of on-campus businesses include restaurants/cafes, the CSU Bookstore, and Catering Services, located in the Lory Student Center.
