- Exorcist Diary #402: Why is hell so horrible?
["The Transfiguration," Raphael, 1516-1520; Note: The transfiguration is a symbol of the future transfiguration of our humanity with the Divine presence in heaven.] By all accounts, hell is a horrible, horrible place. It might seem that God, whom we proclaim to be merciful, is anything but. On several occasions, Jesus himself spoke of it as a place of "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth" (Mt 8:12, 13:42, 13:50, 22:13; 24:51, 25:30 and Luke 13:28). And while individual accounts of hell (such as the children of Fatima, St. Faustina, and St. Catherine of Siena) are not de fide since they are private revelations, they are all relatively the same. As one man said, who claimed to have died and experienced hell: "I would not wish it on my worst enemy." I think we cannot grasp what hell is until we understand a bit better who God is. Unconsciously, despite our best theology, people often tend to think of God as a pleasant grandfatherly figure. While it is true that we call God "Father," the reality is much, much more powerful than our human images. God is infinite, omnipotent, and omniscient. At that same time, God is pure love, as St. John tells us (I Jn 4:8). God is our summum bonum- our greatest good. To share in God's infinite love and holiness is a grace beyond comprehension. What is hell? Hell is losing our greatest good; it is losing God. The greatest sufferings of hell are precisely that: the knowledge that we have lost God forever and the constant torture of our conscience for having done so by our own fault. In this life, God is constantly reaching out to us. Those who are lost have repeatedly and willfully rejected him. The reality of hell is so horrible because what we have lost is so infinitely loving and beautiful. And the existence of hell itself is, strangely, a mercy. For those who have definitively rejected God and have chosen the darkness, even the slightest "grace" or ray of Divine light is an incredible suffering. In an exorcism we witness this: just throw a little holy water on demons and they scream. Could you imagine what it would be like for them or the damned to be directly in God's presence? It would truly be a merciless torture. To attain to God and thus to heaven, we need one quality- love. Love in this sense is true charity, not simply an emotion. For St. Thomas, charity is the foundation of all virtues. It is a shared bond of mutual friendship and love with God. True charity cannot be forced; God cannot force us to love Him. By God's own design, love can only be freely given. God invites us; loves us; and daily offers every grace to us. But, in the end, if we do not have a drop of love, there will be no place in heaven with God who is love. Heaven or hell? The choice is stark and extreme. This is so because God himself is infinite love beyond comprehension. There can be no greater tragedy than to lose God: "What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his [eternal] life?" (Mk 8:36). And there is no greater joy than to find Him. But we ought not to be frightened or despairing. God is loving and merciful and opens his Fatherly arms in welcome. We believe that this supernatural life of God's grace normally begins in baptism, is nourished by the sacraments, and is vivified by our faith in Jesus Christ and living his message. Begin each day with an open heart to God and the words: "Lord I give each moment this day to you in love." As our life in God grows, we will become rich in grace. As the Scriptures tell us: "To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away" (Mt 13:12). ----------------------------- +Our next free monthly deliverance session is Monday, Nov 16. - Ask Gina: Why are we Having a Holy Hour on Halloween?
Q: Why are you having a Holy Hour on Halloween, and is the time allotted from 11 pm-12 am a special time? A: What a great question. One that needs a bit of background to answer adequately. For many years, my husband and I celebrated Halloween as a secular holiday with all its eerie and enchanting allure. The truth is, we don’t know what we don’t know until we do! It was not until a profound reversion to the faith in 2008 that the truth of what we were aligning ourselves with proved to be far from what the richness and wisdom of our Catholic faith intended. As the good Lord tells us in Luke 12:48, “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.” As baptized Christians, have we not been given, entrusted with so VERY much? We were convicted and needed to make a change. I began my research and was in awe of what I learned. The origins of Halloween are, in fact, very Christian. It has progressed over centuries through Popes, Councils, and the faithful to become known as Allhallowtide or the Triduum of Death - All Hallows' Eve (Oct. 31), All Saints' Day (Nov. 1), and All Souls' Day (Nov. 2). While this may sound a bit morbid, it is anything but! It is a profound Catholic trilogy of prayer, remembrance, and hope in the Resurrection. It is meant to inspire a holy hope, encouraging the Church Militant - those of us still in this world and engaged in the battle against sin, temptation, and the forces of evil - that death has been conquered by Jesus Christ and does not have the final word! It reminds us of those who have gone before us, known as the Church Triumphant - real people who have lived and suffered and now live with Jesus, interceding on our behalf. And of the Church Suffering, the holy souls in Purgatory, still a part of our family, the Body of Christ, in need of our prayers. Halloween, rightly understood, belongs to the Church, NOT to the culture of death! That said, sadly Halloween has become deeply connected with witchcraft, the occult, and practices of divination, drifting far from its sacred roots. While much of both the day and night of the 31st are used for occult practices, midnight is known as the “magic hour”, the threshold into their new year. This is why we have chosen to pray and intercede in the hour leading up to midnight. We must remember that the way to expose that which hides in the shadows is not by ignoring it, but by praying and interceding for those involved. Having the SMC Holy Hour on All Hallows’ Eve is one step we can take in doing this. During our Holy Hour, we pray for all those who are ensnared in the occult, that they may be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the light of truth as we, “take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; but instead expose them” (Eph 5:11), praying for all who are negatively affected by its lure and deception. We need not abandon Halloween but rather celebrate in a healthy, holy manner, rejoicing in the freedom won for us by Jesus, reclaiming AllHallowtide from those who would make it about Satan and his kingdom. **To join us for the Holy Hour on Halloween, please use this LINK. - Exorcist Diary #407: Forgiving Self
["The Return of the Prodigal Son," Pompeo Batoni, 1773] We were making good progress in liberating a woman from the Evil One. But then the progress stalled. It turns out that she was harboring a great deal of resentment toward her angry in-law, a dabbler in witchcraft, who was intentionally cursing her and her husband. The couple was stuck in an ugly, enmeshed, evil relationship with her. I have witnessed this time and again. Unforgiveness completely blocks liberation. "But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions" (Mt 6:15). Jesus' teaching on the centrality of forgiveness is clear. And our experience with demonic affliction gives witness to this truth. But what is also important, and sometimes overlooked, is not only the difficulty of forgiving others, but also the difficulty with forgiving one's self, i.e., accepting God's forgiveness. In another case, a man had difficulty forgiving those who had harmed him in the past. But then I asked him to say the following: "I willingly forgive myself; I accept God's forgiveness; and I ask God to bless me." He struggled greatly and could barely choke out the words. For him, forgiving himself was much more difficult than forgiving others. During our recent monthly deliverance session, one of the attendees wrote: "I was surprised that when I was saying those I forgive, it was when I said it for myself that I started to cry." Clearly, this was the grace she needed. This was grace that God wanted her to have that evening: accepting God's forgiveness of herself. Unforgiveness of self can masquerade as humility but it is not. God wants to extend his healing grace of forgiveness to us. Satan, on the other hand, wants us to wallow in self-hatred. In the end, we will be saved, not by our own merits, but by Jesus who offers his forgiveness and salvation to us as a free gift. Accepting God's forgiveness and his incredible gift of salvation is true humility. And it will save us. ------------------------------ +Our next free monthly deliverance session is Monday, Nov 16. I am so very grateful for this. This ministry is a conduit of God's Peace. I have attended many deliverance sessions over the years, I realized early in yesterday’s session that the anger and anxiety I have lived with most of my life is gone or totally under my control. I’m 77 years old so that was a lot of anger and anxiety. I realized this was a grace I received after praying with these prayer sessions. Thank you for these prayers! God bless you and all who assist in this ministry! I got really tired as the session started and even wondered if I should leave the session. I stuck with it and the tiredness gave way to a strong sense of peace and calm.I slept really well and have been at peace all day today. I loved the prayers. The whole session brought a peace I haven't felt in a bit. I look forward to upcoming events. Thank you! Felt instant inner peace and a sense of calmness On Monday 10/19 I felt a sense of spiritual oppression and I was uncharacteristically irritable all day. As soon as I connected with Monsignor's session, I immediately noticed a sense of being calmed as I joined in the prayers -- I felt a sudden sense of being shielded by the prayers of the session !! Today, Tuesday 10/20 I have complete sense of peace around & within me, irritable feelings are completely gone, I feel a sense of renewal and am rejoicing interiorly! Thank you, Monsignor !! I came to the session agitated and in desolation. Many things going on right now including the impending death of a dear cousin. I almost missed the start time. Then I had to register right near they start as I erroneously thought I had registered already. But, I made it in at the start. During the prayers I found myself sighing deeply. I could feel my shoulders and body relax. By the time the session ended I felt peaceful and hopeful. Thank you, Monsignor for your deliverance prayer warriors and your ministry ….i have been plagued by horrible dreams at night and have not slept well in weeks … Last night was the first restful and peaceful sleep … feel that I am being called to pray more and let go of material things that will not help me to heaven ..your deliverance prayers for anxiety have really helped me move forward in trusting in God’s providence … God bless you and your staff … The online prayers gave me so much peace of mind and heart. At first I was kind of scared 'cause I do not know what to expect. As the session continued, I definitely felt the strength that came with each prayers. Thank you very much for doing this. I have been looking for so long for an online event like this. I look forward to joining the monthly session. I felt very safe and protected and very calm and peaceful . Great experience, very relaxing and soul/mind clearing. Felt relief at the very end. I received a lot of peace and the Father’s love . The online session brought peace to my heart and helped with my anxiety. I am happy that this part of ministry is being offered because the availability is rather limited and that this work is for the glory of God. I felt calmer. My anxiety and complex ptsd became easier to bear. Scruples have melted away, Christ's love for me is certain, I am finally at peace and slept through the night for the first time in months. Thank you St Michael's Center. Blessed be God forever. I felt lighter and was able to sleep well after the session. Thank you Msgr and the whole SMCSR ministry! God bless you all. 🙏🙏🙏 Monsignor; praying with you, and your staff brings such peace - it’s the kind of peace that envelopes all of me, body, soul and spirit. And, it stays and permeates my home and brings contentment. It erases all the negative dust that collects from daily living. After each session, I feel renewed and clean again, not unlike Reconciliation, as it reaches deep down and scrubs me clean. I am so appreciative of your Priesthood and that of exorcist. You are a great blessing to all. I really enjoy your monthly sessions. Every month, I join in from my office, which also serves as our guest room. After each session, I feel a deep sense of peace. Guests who stay in this room often tell me they feel calm, almost like they're in a church, and they always sleep so well here. My mom usually leaves the light on at night because she's afraid of the dark, but when she stays in this room, she sleeps with the lights off and feels safe. Glory to Jesus for letting us be part of this. These opportunities are peaceful and filled with graces. I have participated many times and now there is a sense of joy and calm that I look forward to. The sessions fill in the gap when there is a stress, pressure, anxiety or pain and no other prayer gatherings are available, especially with a priest. Thank you! Dear friends, After a prayer meeting with you, I always feel at peace, strengthened, and cheerful. I join from Croatia—which means it gets quite late—yet in the morning, I feel completely well-rested; it is truly wonderful! That day, following the prayer, is the best day of the month for me! It is beautiful to experience the power of the Church’s prayer and to see the fruits Thank you for your effort and selflessness... I send my heartfelt greetings to you all, especially to dear Monsignor. I've been praying with SMC since 12/21 & I always experience a deep abiding peace during and afterwards. I'm 65 and God's been healing me of the deep wounds from growing up in an abusive, alcoholic, secular Catholic family of origin, characterized by BPD - borderline personalities with 2 suicides, a probable & that's only what I know of. These sessions are my monthly reset as it were which enables me to Begin Again. Amen & Alleluia! God love & bless y'all richly always! ❤ in Christ I had a chronic congestive cough so bad I would have to leave mass couple times to go outside and cough Years had this cough no relief ...it interfered with my life. no doctors help. i had coughing fits all the time everywhere. recently one night I realized that the cough and congestion was completely gone. healed. 🥹 i am stunned . grateful thankful I have been attending your prayer sessions since the beginning Thank you so very much deeply for the healing I received last night. I am deeply grateful to Monsignor and your team. I could feel my childhood abuse trauma was touched and I started to cry feeling it reach the very core of that issue my inner child. I felt much freer in the chest. Also when my past involvement in the new age/occult I felt things leave, and further heaviness. Also healing from illnesses I can feel my body has removed something.I got really dizzy though. Thank you so much! It has strengthened my Faith and encouraged me to pray more. The invisible presence that I felt in my home has vanished Monsignor is an asset to the Faith and we need to have more Priests like him. My prayer intentions for all Exorcist Priests particularly for Father Chad Ripperger ✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️❤️🙏 Last night was an extremely powerful session. I’ve been doing these for a year and a half. I felt nausea throughout much of the session and mentally and emotionally felt better during, after and still today than I have in weeks. Definitely a clearing. Thank you for your continued help, prayers and devotion to us. Much appreciated. I am so grateful to All Mighty God for these sessions. I use this time to actually reflect about who I need to forgive, and which spirits are afflicting me. I’ve gone back a thought about all the healing I’ve received in previous sessions. I’m so grateful for Gods peace and joy from these sessions. I can’t explain it but I feel “normal” after the prayers. I pray this grace to extend to my family and all those I am in contact with throughout the days. After the hour-long prayer service, I felt like I was light and free. I know it sounds strange, but it lasted until morning, this feeling of peace--like being in a warm bath. Also I was happy there were prayers for young people looking for a spouse as I have children in that age range and they are praying for a good spouse. Keep up the good work! As always lifting weights and leaving a great feeling after your Deliverance Prayer Monsignor. Thank you! We ask for the Lord to always protect you and let you keep helping others as you do! God Bless you Monsignor and team! I feel a huge relief and inner peace. I have experienced many traumatic events over the past years. I lost my entire family, went through breast cancer and I’m currently still battling lupus. I have been away from the Catholic Church since high school and I feel like I am under constant attack by the enemy. Last night was the first time I have ever felt safe, renewed and free. During the Saint Michael’s Prayer I had a chill go down my spine followed by a sudden strong wind outside. The fear left me and I was finally at peace. This was one of the best sessions yet! Msgr, UR looking well; I feel comforted & cared for every time I pray with U. I am a prospective convert. UR prayers & previously recorded deliverance sessions got me thru a very dark time; I was heavily addicted to cannabis 4 many years & only UR guidance to our Lord Jesus got me thru. Yesterday was 9 months free for me. I'm 74 - way too old for that kind of stupidity! Jesus, I trust in you. Thank U again, Father. UR care means the world to me. 🙏🏻✝️ Every time I pray the Deliverance Prayers with Monsignor and SMC…I feel miracles of healing in my soul, mind and body. God bless you for providing these powerful prayers for us. Every time I attend one of Monsignor’s session’s I feel better overall. In other words, as time goes by the healing becomes more thorough. I seem more awake and able to connect to the process in a stronger way. . It helps me to understand sanctification. The teachings are so helpful. I’m so grateful the Lord guided me to this sight and I am so grateful for you and your team Father. You are a gift! I feel such a deep sense of peace after these. This helps so much and I’m so very grateful to how the Lord is using this ministry. I slept all night and woke up rested. The lethargy and the battle with family division due to years of deep wounds can be a lot . But Forgiveness prayers give peace, I’m grateful for all the Lord does. The sessions help heal and peel away deep betrayal and hurt from multiple sources.God Bless you all. I was not feeling well (mental, emotional), lots of intrusive and malicious thoughts, cannot sleep well at night, having weird dreams and nightmares, and sometimes sleep paralysis. Feeling lethargic too and sad.. This is the second time that I attended online deliverance session, I felt that some kind of thread was cut from my head and all those thoughts were gone, and although short, I have a good quality of sleep. Thank you Monsignor and SMC teams 🙏🏻 The awful mental torment I had been suffering all day lifted after the session! Thank you very much Monsignor and team, you are wonderful! I experienced a lot of yawning and felt more at peace after the session. I felt a lot of oppression lift off of me. So grateful for these sessions. God bless you Monsignor and staff 🙏 I thank God for delivering me from oppression and snares. Thank you Monsignor. Thank you St. Michael's team. May God bless you abundantly. Thank you for returning to live deliverance sessions. I can't wait till the next one. I get a lot out of the litany of the children of god. I am physically disabled and feel unlovable quite often. You receive a lot of rejection when you are different. Today I woke up feeling special and loved. I feel like a weight has been lifted from me, not like confession but close to that, i am looking forward to next months prayer session After the deliverance session I felt so much peace and love in my heart after a tough time of self-doubt and feeling unlovable for no reason and for always being anxious for my adults children. Thank you, Msgr., and St. Michael Center, for all your prayers! May God bless you bountifully! I was recently getting “spiritual attacks” - especially at nighttime. I would be awakened and hear a voice imitating The Lord (this has occurred before). Which would keep reawakening me multiple times during the night. Then I become exhausted during the day and I also then get migraines. I am scheduled to be on prayer teams this week at a “healing service”… so I believe it was (once again torments to me to make me doubt myself and avoid showing up. I had 100% relief after your session. 🙌🕊️❤️ All prayers powerful! Self hatred delivered! Deep peace!!! I’ve made mistakes in the past and this service gives me hope that along with confession I will be better from terrible anxiety that has plagued me most of my life. God bless all the staff at St. Michael’s. I want to express my eternal gratitude to you and your team. Thank you for my deliverance. I would like to share that, in 2024, I underwent the solemn rite; since then, I have been subjected to attacks and reprisals. The last demon remaining to be cast out is the one responsible for "unholy soul ties"; for this reason, over the last three months, I have been praying daily—except on weekends—using your prayers. And it is working! I am finding deliverance with the help of Jesus and Mary! Chills from the Holy Spirit. Joy. Peace. Healing from trauma . forgiveness. Thank you for these sessions, they bring healing from wounds of childhood scapegoating and abuse. I wish I had this information and resource in my 20s. I am in my 50s now and its Not too late for me. Please pray the Lord Jesus heals my family and brings them back to the Eucharist. Peaceful and since prayer time before this one, my anger & bitterness toward the rejection from my husband has waned. I am so thankful for the deliverance session. I feel different deep in my soul after attending. This was my second time. Thank you so much, Monsignor and team for this incredibly important ministry. Every time I get on this stream, I feel so cleansed afterwards! There’s so many prayers and blessings that father prays over us to make sure that we are protected as much as he can virtually. The more blessings the better in my opinion! Also I love how Fr. answers questions people place in the chat at the end of the session. I usually learn something new every time. I would highly recommend joining to anyone who hasn’t tried. I’ve been attending these deliverance sessions for about a year and a half. They are truly healing and helpful and have brought me out of a very dark place, along with the sacraments of course. Thank you Monsignor and your wonderful team for all of the work that you do. You have made such a difference in this dark world. God bless you all, and I’m so grateful that you’re back! Afterwards, I always feel safer and more peaceful. Anecdotally, I slept better last night than in a long while plus my arthritic knees felt better this morning. Thank you. It's wonderful that you guys are back. It helps me so much. I actually slept last night. There is a group of evil people who work to destroy good, and my children and I have been under constant spiritual attack for a long time. These prayers help peace come into our lives. The positive in all of the negative is that it has brought me closer to God, Christ, and the Holy Mother. I pray for their souls too (the dark people). Your prayers are a guiding light and deeply appreciated. Thank you, and God bless you. Every month I look forward to these sessions. The live session is so powerful and I experience our Lord when praying live with Monsignor and everyone participating. After doing this for the last 5 to 6 months, I have started a new practice that’s helping me to forgive. I have many traumas and many people I feel the need to forgive. Every Sunday, I light a candle at my church and I offer forgiveness for a detailed list of those I ask for graces to forgive. Very grateful 🙏 In the beginning, when Msgr was casting out and added "you will be obedient" I immediately felt a release from something unclean. Throughout the remainder of the session, I felt so free ! Thank you Msgr for being Our Lord's servant to His flock. I felt like a weight was lifted off me. When you prayed the long Latin prayer, I felt a heaviness leave my body. I felt lighter, suddenly happier or more joyful. It was beautiful. I smiled as I felt this lightness and peace come over me. Thank you, Fr . I feel that this session has helped remove a much of the secularism in my home. The house feels lighter this morning. For the first time (after a dry spell in which I have been struggling somewhat) when Monsignor started reciting the Latin prayers over us, I felt my core being stirred and cleansed and whatever had been sitting inside (festering) was shaken away, with some struggling to hold on. Was unpleasant, then I cried and felt light and happy after. Thanks for all the work you do reaching out to us all over the world... we all need it more than ever in the current environment. God bless you all. Please don't thank ME for attending. Coming to this event is an honor so I, thank YOU. Monsignor, I was baptized catholic as an infant but I was raised outside the church, you have inspired me to go back and attend OCIA/RCIA and complete my sacraments of confirmation and holy communion. I've been learning the Catholic faith in classes since last month! I feel so close to God. I'm so grateful to you as it was YOUR LIGHT that lit ME up. :) The deliverance sessions are working! I have been uplifted to God. Everything is clearer in my life. More protection, peace and guidance in my life with God in it. Thank you. This note is written through my tears. I am a 68-year-old woman and was bound by childhood of abuse-sexual, emotion, and neglect. I joined your sessions three years ago and finally have my freedom in the Christ through you and all the staff. I now regularly pray and share your website prayers. And, I use your prayers in the physical and inner healing ministries I belong to. To all of you at the Center, I love you as your sister-in-Christ, and I thank our Lord for you. I feel lighter and more are Peace praise God I had just returned home from a 4 day Conference, hours before this session began. I was exhausted. Midway through the session, I regained clarity of mind and renewed energy. I was able to pray better vocally and with more volume and power. At the beginning of the session I simply persevered at getting the words out of my exhausted body. Thank you very much. I know I always receive fruits via these sessions, whether or not I feel them. May God Bless you and all at the St. Michael Center. Our family has had oppression for 10 years. We have learned much from the sessions. We, the women pray every day and feel a great relief at the sessions and it gives us strength to help us all and offer all this up. I rarely have dark dreams and during the day feel lighter than in the beginning of this journey ! The evil is still here but we wear the armor of God. Thank you! My experience was very good , I felt very light an at peace compared to before the prayer session began. Was very freeing the only spot I didn’t have a bodily reaction like fling arms legs was with tattoos because I don’t have any but everything else I did woke up feeling no stress this morning slept the best. I’ve slept in a very long time. Thank you so much for all you do. I pray for your safety and help. God bless you all I experienced a spiritual attack in June of 2025. I ran to Monsignor and the spiritual sessions for my life. Without attending these monthly offerings I cannot imagine what my life would be like. I am finally feeling a sense of peace and optimism. I do believe I am still spiritually sensitive to trigger factors. I also believe that Monseigneur's prayers rescued me I find myself with internal tension & discomfort during these sessions, but am left with a deep sense of internal peace at the end. I have dealt with oppression for years, with the most serious attacks behind me. Praying with Monsignor helps keep the house clean and propels me to deeper levels of forgiveness, spiritual understanding, & peace. Please convey to Monsignor that I, and so many others, am so thankful that his ministry continues, and has withstood the attacks against it! Thank you for all you do. My little boy and I suffer from oppression and you’re the only good help and relief I’ve found in almost 3 years. I was panicked when you stopped for a few months but I’m so relieved that you are back. It took a year of attending but after a year, we are much healthier and financially capable. God bless you so much . I felt the weight lifted over my shoulders I am so grateful to Heaven for this ministry. It was efficacious again! Great healing was received during specific moments in the prayers, uncovering fears never before named. All praise & thanks be to God! When I’m done w the prayer (my husband and I do the session together) I feel like a weight has lifted & I can think w more clarity. Often Monsignor speaks about lethargy. I actually fell asleep. Requested in the chat for healing of my neck and back spasms. It’s been debilitating for over six weeks. I went into a deep sleep last night - my entire body rested and I feel so much better. Not 100% but incredibly improved. when I tried to listen to the recording again last night I fell asleep again. I will now listen to the recording today. It’s always a very powerful experience. Praise God and many thanks to all who work so hard When the prayers for forgiveness and rebuking the spirits started, I couldn’t stop yawning and burping. I shivered twice and felt lighter after the session. Praise be to God, and may God bless you all for this ministry. I immediately felt lethargic feeling lifting up. I also felt deep inner peace and enjoyed praying with the St. Michael's Center team as well as the participants joined from different parts of the world. This was my first deliverance prayer session and wished I started attending sooner! I felt and still feel so much joy, love, and peace. The only other times I can recall feeling this way was during/after a private audience with Saint Pope John Paul II and after confession with an exorcist for the Diocese of Monterey in CA. Towards the end of the session, I felt some sort of pressure on my front of my neck, was able to breath and swallow, and went away before the session ended. Tears began to flow as I realized how I have been healed through this holy ministry. I am strengthened by the prayers and knowing the Team is praying for me. This helps me find the courage to continue battling for my family and the world. I thank God I discovered the SMC Online Prayer session and the website. Thank you! I felt joy. And the day hours after were really peaceful. God is good. What gets me everytime, is the 'I am beloved' prayer... I am always surprised to hear the wonderful news and believe that God loves me so much, that he cares. God bless you all, my brothers and sisters. Right from the first prayer I experienced a deep sense of the presence of the saints; that they are really my family as real to me as my own family. I was in tears for much of the first half of the session. Tears of joy. I also experienced intensely the precious blood pouring over me during that prayer. It was profound. Deep sense of peace. Thank you. Praise God! I cried during the session during the prayer of evil spirits affecting the family bloodlines.I felt a certain peace and freedom.Thank you. I've been going through a very difficult time and felt God's peace and love surround me. These deliverance sessions are an amazing blessing, I wish more people knew this was available. Thank you. As the session progressed, I felt lighter and more peaceful. Thank you, Monsignor, [co-host], and all who played a part. These sessions are powerful and liberating. Plus, it is nice to see the faith of others...it builds up all of us. I felt very much loved and protected. I was my second time joining in and have seen The Lord working to help me. My husband and I very much appreciate these sessions. The sessions bring comfort and peace as we continue to pray for our adult children's reversion to Our Glorious Catholic faith. Thank you for taking the time to answer questions afterwards. I feel such peace and calmness during the session that I unfortunately usually fall asleep! I think it is my minds releasingall of my concerns from me to Jesus, and feeling that load being lifted from me from my soul. Feeling flooded with peace and the grace being received from the blessed mother. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to join in and be a recipient of such loving, calm, powerful prayers with Msgr and his team! I prayed for Our Lady’s and Jesus’Graces to really enter iinto last night’s session. P. E. A. C. E. IS THE. BEST. WAY. TO. DESCRIBE. MY. EXPERIENCE! TOTAL PEACE. And I learn so much eac session! Thank you for all you do! Love how the laity leads in prayer and scripture and then Monsignor ratifies on behalf of Holy Mother Church. Also good to hear how participants have intentions in common. When one is oppressed it can lead one to feel as though they are uniquely afflicted. To know others are your brethren in the same oppression or obsession only helps to strengthen our sense of hope and faith in deliverance. God bless the Saint Michael Center for their commitment. The prayers and gracious love provided by the Fr. and his staff comforted my heart. Even though it all happened via the internet, I could still feel the intimate union of our souls with God, and that we were all participating in the mystery of Christ and the Holy Trinity through prayer, sacraments, and grace. It is a true blessing from God. Thank you all. Always a blessing to participate! It is so wonderful to have this accessible way to pray in a solemn way live online. Guided by Monsignor and his staff, I feel I have had a holy encounter with heaven. It feels like an important part of my prayer life and leaves me feeling more at peace for my family and myself having taken the time to turn to God in this way. Dear Monsignor and Staff, As the deliverance prayers began, I unexpectedly started to cry and couldn’t help it. This hadn’t happened to me in quite some time during these online prayers. Afterwards, I began to feel a sense of peace. By the end, I was very tired, almost as though I had been working out for several hours. Thank you so much for offering these sessions. God Bless! I love the sense of community and peace it creates. I am in the Andes mountains, in the midst of nature, and a bit isolated. So being part of this community and joining the monthly prayer session is family for me. Thank you very very much. Thank you for these monthly prayer sessions. They have helped me a great deal over the years. I am 86 yrs old . Last evening after the final Our Father prayer was prayed, I suddenly burst out crying so intensely for quite a while. After I stopped in shock, a peace came over me and I felt calm, serene and light. I still feel pretty good this morning. Internal peace and joy for being loved despite falls and weaknesses It was such a wonderful, peaceful session for me. I have participated in these deliverance sessions for a couple of years, and last night, I felt a big surrendering to Jesus. It is comforting as well, that your prayers extend to our family and our generational line. I ask for prayers for my daughters to come back to the Church and for my two young granddaughters to be baptized. Thank you. I’ve been coming for 5 years now and just wanted to thank you so much. These prayers have blessed me and my family far beyond what I can see. I'm so grateful for your ministry and your constant focus on Jesus Each Deliverance Session always brings a peaceful feeling afterwards. This session was no different except this time it also brought me an increase in confidence in the certainty of our Faith. Very powerful! Thank you Msgr! Hola! I am from Venezuela! This is the second Deliverance Prayer Session that I have attended and it has been such a wonderful experience so far! I have been feeling so much peace after the sessions, which is something that I desperately needed. I will definitely keep attending the sessions! By the way, the prayers, videos, articles from your website are very helpful too, along with praying the Rosary daily! Thank you so much for everything that you do to help people,SMC staff! God bless you all! I missed the Sept session. So glad I could make this one. Thank you Father. I look forward to these prayer sessions-especially the prayers that help us realize we are loved, worthy, and children of God. Mother Teresa always said the worst hunger or poverty was being unloved. She was right. I feel God's love in your sessions. Thank you! monsignor's faith and trust in Jesus is inspiring i love the gospel reads and litany of saints, the latin prayer also. all other prayers so powerful. i feel like i am being set free in Jesus love and protected by these prayers. i feel safe thank u spirit filled SMC staff.
- Grady's Corner: Rome is a City of Hope
Triumph of the Christianity Over Paganism by Thommaso Laureti I recently returned from a week in Rome. As a Catholic, I always find myself drawn to Rome as a kind of spiritual home, where I feel close to the heart of Christ and the graces of His Church. Each time I go, I try to see something new. On this trip, there was a painting I hadn’t noticed before. In fact, my sister was the one who pointed it out to me. Inside the Vatican Museums, there is a series of rooms known as the “Raphael Rooms,” featuring remarkable frescoes, many of which are quite famous and I am sure you would recognize. On one of the ceilings, in the Hall of Constantine, is a painting known as The Triumph of Christianity over Paganism. This painting stuck with me. A shattered pagan idol lies on the floor, while a crucifix stands triumphantly in its place. In one image, we see the story of Rome and, in many ways, the story of Christianity itself. As some of you probably know, Constantine the Great was the Roman emperor who legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire after centuries of persecution, during which Sts. Peter and Paul courageously ministered and were eventually martyred. Constantine was the son of St. Helena, who was instrumental in spreading Christianity and is most famously credited with discovering the True Cross, bringing Passion relics to Rome, and ensuring shrines were built in the Holy Land, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Following the legalization of Christianity, many large Roman buildings and, eventually, pagan temples were turned into places of Christian worship. Where pagan idols were once worshipped and Christians faced persecution, Christ became the center. Rome is a striking reminder that Christ's triumph over evil often comes through suffering and the carrying of the cross. Where St. Peter was buried, St. Peter's Basilica now stands. Where St. Paul was buried, the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls was constructed. The Pantheon, once a temple dedicated to pagan gods, is now the Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs. Rome is a city of hope, a place where we are reminded of Christ's triumph. Satan tries to hide that triumph in the midst of a fallen world or in our own suffering, but we know how the story ends. Evil, persecution, and suffering will never have the final word. Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat. Christ conquers. Christ reigns. Christ commands. -Grady Connolly
- Ask Gina: Why Wasn't the Archangel Uriel Included in the Recent Novena to the Archangels from St. Michael Center?
Q: Respectfully, why wasn't the Archangel Uriel included in the recent Novena to the Archangels from St. Michael Center? A: The short answer is that Uriel is not officially recognized by the Catholic Church as an archangel to be venerated. The archangel names Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael all appear in Scripture and are recognized as divinely inspired, but Uriel does not. The most prominent mention of Uriel is found in the Book of Enoch, which is an ancient Jewish text presenting a highly detailed angelology. However, neither the Book of Enoch nor 2 Esdras (the second two of the four books, which also mentions Uriel) are included in the Catholic canon of Sacred Scripture. In the Directory on Popular Piety, the Church states clearly: "The practice of assigning names to the Holy Angels should be discouraged, except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael and Michael, whose names are contained in Holy Scripture." While it is true, the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Anglican Church continue to venerate Uriel as an archangel to this day; Latin Rite Catholics, in obedience to their own tradition, are only to invoke Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael by name. That said, some Eastern Catholics such as the Melkites may also invoke Uriel within their own Byzantine tradition, which has been permitted under the obedience of their bishops and patriarch. Another item to note is that because the name Uriel is not found in revealed scripture and is therefore spiritually ambiguous, it is sadly easily exploited. Unfortunately, in this day and age, Uriel, in particular, is often used in New Age practices and in the occult. Invoked by name through ritual, Tarot, channeling, or Enochian magic, while one might think they are praying to a friendly archangel, one may in fact be praying to a demonic spirit. This is a concern we have seen in this ministry, a real spiritual danger. The Church, in its wisdom, desires to protect the faithful from such deception. It is therefore both prudent and wise to follow the recommendations of Catholic theology and of Sacred Scripture as interpreted by the Magisterium and to always "stay in the boat!" -Gina Witt
- Exorcist Diary #406: The Seven Joys of Heaven
(As opposed to the Seven Tortures of Hell revealed to St. Faustina) [Beatific Vision, Gustave Dore, 1832-1883] The Seven Tortures of Hell were revealed to St. Faustina. These joys of heaven stand in contradistinction to the tortures of hell and are based upon the Sacred Scriptures, the teachings of the Church (CCC#1023-1029), and the writings of the great doctors and saints: 1. Beatific Vision of God (as opposed to “Loss of God”). “They will look upon his face, and his name will be on their foreheads” (Rev 22:4). All the joys of heaven flow from the greatest of graces- the beatific vision of God. We shall see God "face to face" (CCC#1023). This is heaven. Upon seeing directly the infinite holiness and beauty of God, the soul spontaneously raises its voice in praise. 2. Rejoicing in God’s Personal Gifts (as opposed to “Perpetual Remorse of Conscience”). The soul rejoices in the immensity of riches God bestows upon it as his free gift. As the Blessed Virgin Mary exclaimed: “He who is mighty has done great things for me and holy is his name.” The soul spontaneously pours out a song of gratitude to God for such overwhelming generosity. 3. An Eternity of God’s Unfolding Riches (as opposed to “An Unchangeable Condition of Damnation”). Rather than being a static condition, the beatific vision is a dynamic unfolding of the infinite riches of God. Each moment is full and yet a blossoming of the previous moment. The future is an overwhelming delight. 4. Transformed by God’s Personal Love (as opposed to “A Purely Spiritual Fire”). “For I am convinced that [nothing…] will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rm 8:38-39). The soul is transfigured by God’s personal love. It feels God’s infinite personal love and delight for it. It is loved and cherished by God himself in an intimate union that will never be broken. 5. Infinite Light and Heavenly Delights for the Senses (as opposed to “Continual Darkness and Suffocating Smells”). “For the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb" (Rev 21:23). Heaven is filled with delights for the spiritual senses which transcend any in creation- beauty beyond description, colors not found on earth, odors of heavenly flowers, divine music and more. 6. Company of the Saints and Angels (as opposed to “The Constant Company of Satan and Fallen Spirits”). “You have approached…the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, and … the spirits of the just made perfect” (Hb 12: 22-23). Those in heaven are directly aware of the virtues and graces of every other soul and they rejoice with them. The graces of each soul become a source of joy for every other soul. They rejoice together in one united body of love. 7. A Heavenly Chorus of Love and Praise (as opposed to “Horrible Despair, Hatred of God, and Blasphemies”). Each soul sings its own heavenly song. Together all the souls harmoniously unite in a heavenly chorus of love, gratitude and praise. It is a state of "supreme, definitive happiness" (CCC#1024). "This mystery of blessed communion with God and all who are in Christ is beyond all understanding and description" (CCC#10270). Human words, while speaking truth about heaven, are inadequate to fully describe the blessedness to which God calls us and shares with us. - Exorcist Diary #405: Halloween Parties?
[Eucharistic adoration in Lucca, Italy over tomb of St. Gemma. Photo by author] An exorcist learns not to trifle with evil. While we recognize and know firmly that Jesus is Lord, we do not underestimate what Satan can and will do if given the chance. If given an opening, he will inflict as much damage as God allows, which can be considerable. And if an exorcist gives Satan an opening in an exorcism session or, God forbid in his own life, it can get quite ugly very fast. I was just invited to a halloween party and I was told it would be great fun. Halloween is actually All Hallows Eve, the night before the great feast of all saints. It is often corrupted to be a pagan celebration including a glorification of evil. Although I have heard of truly holy gatherings on All Hallows Eve, for example, the young dress up as their favorite saints. But more often, young people on halloween don images of witches, demons, skeletons, ghosts, and the like. I declined the invitation. An exorcist does not trifle with evil and certainly does not glorify it. In an exorcist's regular interaction with demons, he "tastes" a bit of hell. It is truly unspeakably evil. Similarly, the Catholic mystic-saints who have been given a "graced" experience of hell say it is awful beyond description. We ought not to underestimate such evil. Would donning an image of evil open someone to its influence at some level? I expect so. When we invoke the saints, we invite their holy persons into our lives. Then why wouldn't taking on images of evil do the same with evil spirits? On the eve of the great feast of All Saints, St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal, once again this year, will be hosting an online holy hour from 11pm to midnight. Here is the free LINK (no need to register). The graces God bestows infinitely overshadow any secular "benefits" this world can offer. - Exorcist Diary #404: Your Most Important Decision
["The Raising of Lazarus," Duccio di Buoninsegna, 1310-1311] At the beginning of the exorcism session, the woman’s face looked awful. It was old, wrinkled and pale. It appeared as a kind of death mask. Just awful. But when the session ended, her face looked like she had been reborn. It was clear and bright. She had a lovely smile and she looked years younger. The change was striking. Her face actually glowed. The young woman was not completely liberated at that point after the session ended. But clearly she had been touched by Jesus. She was one step closer to freedom and peace. And the radiance of her face was an encouraging sign of what would be in store for her future. On the other hand, a young man came to us who had been practicing divination, witchcraft and the occult for ten years. Not surprising, he said it was dragging him down. He was depressed, despairing and suicidal. He began to see demons and to feel their death-dealing presence. The dark experience of the presence of demons frightened him. Thankfully, he converted and entered the road to life. We have little control over most things in this world and little control over much which comes our way. But there is one thing over which we have complete control. It is the most important choice of our lives and its repercussions will echo throughout our eternity. We choose life or we choose death. Each day, by our lives and by our daily decisions, we make such a choice. As the Book of Deuteronomy tells us: "I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse, choose life that you and your descendants may live” (30:19). In this exorcism ministry, we are blessed to see the reality and truth of this choice in people's lives. And so, I pass it along to you. The choice is real. Choose life! You won't regret it. You will be eternally grateful. Pray with me: Jesus, I believe in you. Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I love you. Send your Holy Spirit to guide me on the sure path to the joys of the heavenly kingdom. ---------------------------------------------------- +Our next free monthly deliverance session is Monday, Oct 19. - Ask Gina: How do We Build a Holy Home in a Troubled World?
In the deliverance and exorcism ministry, sacramentals are a staple! We see time and time again the efficacy and power of the sacred against the malevolent forces of evil. One of the most significant examples of this was the consistent feedback received from our clients after the house blessings provided by the SMC priests and deacons. The demonic harassment was significantly tempered, and a sense of peace overshadowed the home. We all strive for and desire this in our own homes. Here are a few suggestions by which to invite Jesus to reign in your home. Interior designers use a term “line of vision” to describe setting a tone for a room. By directing one’s eye to holy things, it helps to inspire us by its order, beauty, and message. The home is sacred ground. It is an oasis from the noise of the world, the flesh, and the devil. When you walk through your home, wherever your eye is taken, there should be a reminder that we have entered this oasis. Enthronement of your home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is another way to intentionally claim the protection and reign of Jesus Christ over your home and family. You are telling the enemy that you have not only “swept clean and put in order your home” (Mt 16:44) but you desire to fill it with faith, hope and love and the mighty presence of God. Should the enemy come looking for shelter in your home, he and his friends will find no vacancy! Many people, myself included, enthrone the home to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during the same ceremony. The Knights of Columbus have a wonderful Enthronement booklet you can download for free HERE. The annual Epiphany Blessing is another wonderful tradition to add to your family life. During the season of Christmas, we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, Jesus’ manifestation to the whole world. With the Epiphany letters inscribed above the entrance of your home you have created a line of vision message - may all who enter this home find Christ’s light and love. Holy art adorning the walls is also another wonderful way to move our hearts to think of the things of heaven, as well as placing a crucifix throughout the home so we can be reminded of God’s great love and sacrifice for us. To set our eyes on images that strengthen our faith and provide hope after a long and stressful day can be just what the Divine Physician orders to calm our interior, slow down the intrusive thoughts in our heads and push back the noise of the world. And last but by no means least, every home should have a Holy Water font. I have two in my house. One at the door and one within the heart of the home. Did you know that the Sign of the Cross is a profession of faith in God as He has revealed himself and serves as an abbreviated form of the Apostles' Creed? Its roots trace back to the time of the Apostles. St. Teresa of Avila famously shared: “From long experience I have learned that there is nothing like holy water to put devils to flight…whenever I take it, my soul feels a most notable consolation.” In a holy home, our Domestic Church, when we incorporate these practices, we find ourselves protected beneath the armor of God so that we may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil (Eph 6:11), claiming the promises and victory of Jesus, who professed that the gates of hell will never prevail! -Gina Witt
- Ask Gina: Adolescent Resistance: When Your Teen No Longer Wants to Pray
Saint Augustine and Saint Monica, Gioacchino Assereto c. 1650) Q: As the father and spiritual authority over my family, what is the best way to approach my child (13) who is often overly anxious and agitated regarding prayer and most things religious and no longer wishes to participate in prayer or sacraments? A: As a parent, I empathize with the ache of a parental heart. It is so painful to watch the suffering of our children, especially when it involves them turning away from the true source of healing, the Divine Physician, Jesus Christ. In response, I have several practical suggestions to offer and pray they will illuminate a path forward. It is always prudent to rule out any natural reasons for this behavior. St. Ignatius of Loyola reminds us that “There are some who attribute nearly any obstacle in their life to the devil but give little attention to one of the devil’s greatest weapons — tricking us into self-deception.” Teenagers these days struggle with negative influences from a myriad of sources, social media, peer pressure, and their own woundedness, to name a few. Be attentive to other areas where this anxiety and agitation show up in your child's life. We all desire to belong and to feel protected, especially in adolescence. Sadly, some teens find this is the wrong place. As parents, let us not be afraid to proactively talk with our children about challenging topics even if it means we may initially be rejected, requiring multiple attempts. Repetition is a masterful tool; when done with attentiveness and love, it can bring about transformation. Adolescents often have few places to assert their budding independence and sadly choose family prayer and Mass attendance as a place to send a message: "I am in control". Once social/emotional concerns have been ruled out, a conversation expressing your desire and duty, as father or mother, to provide spiritual care for your family can be powerful. There are numerous statistics that support that strong parental witness to the faith significantly increases the probability that the household will follow. Providing firm boundaries by re-issuing an invitation to participate freely, while providing clarity that attendance at Mass is not up for negotiation, can be helpful. The power is not in our hands as parents to release our children from Sunday obligation but rather in the Lord who commands us to keep the Lord’s Day holy. It is important to bless our children and fervently pray for them. We recently celebrated the feasts of St. Monica and her son St. Augustine, a perfect example of the persevering and fruitful prayer of a parent! St. Ambrose, the mentor of St. Augustine, once told St. Monica, “It is not possible that the son of these tears should perish." God loves our children even more than we do! We must never let fear or hyperresponsibility overtake us, but rather remain confident in the Lord, trusting that our petitions, like St. Monica's tears, will be received and answered in God’s perfect timing. Finally, we have many resources and prayers on the website and app. A Parent's Prayer is one of my personal favorites and can be found HERE. It is also good to regularly pray for protection over your family and home with deliverance prayers found HERE under Deliverance Prayers for Laity. In the meantime, be assured of our prayers for you and all the families facing this painful reality, and may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit. ~Rom 15:13 -Gina Witt
- Exorcist Diary #403: A Satanist's Torment
["The Last Communion of St. Jerome," Domenico Zampieri, 1614] In my previous post: “Why is hell so horrible?” I wrote: “For those who have definitively rejected God and have chosen the darkness even the slightest grace or ray of Divine light is an incredible suffering.” A person resonated with this social media content and publicly shared his story: “I was a fervent satanist and I somehow felt what I think Satan feels in the presence of love (on a lower level but it was still awful). At the sight of holy images, people praying, newborns, compassion, or anything good, I felt a strong sense of nausea and a visceral pain, I felt like I was about to throw up and collapse. Satan also had so much control on my brain that I couldn't feel empathy anymore nor contempt for evil. God saved me from that trap and made me aware of every single trick, now I try my best not to sin, I pray as much as I can and praise Him every day. I repent for EVERYTHING I have ever done because my sins are horrible and I know that if I died some time ago I would certainly have deserved damnation. Please give up on sin everyone, I want to see you all in heaven. May God who is all mighty and just and perfect bless us all!” This experience brings home the critical need for all of us to “ingest” good and holy things, and to eschew evil. If we partake of evil, our intellect becomes darkened, our spirit blackened, and ultimately we cannot tolerate the things of God; we could not stand being in heaven. What torments Satan and his minions? Anything truly good and holy. On the contrary, the more we ingest the things of heaven, the holier we become, and the more ready for heaven. We love God and yearn for his divine life, and, by the grace of God in Jesus, we will find it. -------------------- +Our next free monthly deliverance session is Monday, Sept 28. - Has Scrupulosity Taken Over Your Prayer Life?
A friend sent me a chain of videos on social media where Catholic content creators were debating the efficacy of prayers and instructing followers on how they need to be praying. I realized how easily prayer can become a source of scrupulosity and anxiety for many people. One of the great gifts that the Catholic Church gives us is the many different ways to pray, some of which follow a formula, while others are at the liberty of the person. Liturgical prayer is the worship of the universal Church, which we experience through the Holy Mass, the sacraments, and the Liturgy of the Hours, among others. These are part of the “official” prayers of the Church and follow prescribed forms and texts. There is also personal prayer, which each of us, I hope, practices on a daily basis. Personal prayer is where we enter into dialogue with the Lord. There is no single “right” way to pray when it comes to personal prayer. Meditating on the Word of God, presenting petitions before the Lord during a Holy Hour, or offering a Rosary for a loved one would be a few great examples. The temptation we can fall into as Catholics is thinking that everything has to have a prescription, which can lead us to overthink prayer and even prevent us from engaging in personal prayer altogether. What specific prayer do I need to say to overcome this temptation? Did I say enough Hail Marys for my special intention? Should I have prayed in Latin instead of English? This is a misunderstanding of prayer, and the devil can use this kind of scrupulosity to keep us from the peace that should come from a prayer life. Prayer is about strengthening our relationship with God. He wants us to know His heart and through prayer, we unite our heart with His. The Lord is not judging us and waiting for the perfect prayer to be uttered. St. Thérèse of Lisieux described prayer this way: “For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven; it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” In a 2010 address, Cardinal Francis Arinze, former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, spoke on the “Importance of Personal Prayer in Christian Life.” He said, “If one understands praying always to mean reciting fixed prayers, then this would not be physically possible for a human being. And it would be psychologically dangerous and inadvisable to try.” Embrace the prescribed prayers and rubrics of the Church, for anything the Church provides us is an opportunity for grace. But personal prayer and dialogue with the Lord are also essential to the Christian life. Talk to God like you do with your best friend. Reject demons of scrupulosity that seek to overwhelm you with the feeling that you aren’t praying in a way God hears. God is a Father who loves you and hears you. - Grady Connolly
- Ask Gina: What is the Domestic Church?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, an extensive reference work summarizing the richness and wisdom of our Catholic faith, tells us that “The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason, the family home is rightly called "the domestic church," a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity.” (CCC 1666) The Domestic Church, also known as the Ecclesia Domestica, is not just a catchy name but a theological reality with deep roots in Scripture and Tradition. The Christian family mirrors the trinitarian love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through the loving union of husband and wife who bring forth new life in the birth of their children. The family has such a powerful role in communicating the life of God to the world that Jesus himself chose to enter the world through one! And in doing so, revealed to us through the lives of the Holy Family, St. Joseph, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Jesus, that the journey of the family is one seasoned in trials and tribulations, triumphs and joys. St. John Chrysostom, Doctor of the Church, and well-known to those in the exorcism ministry for composing prayers still prayed by exorcists today, encourages the lay faithful to "Make your home a church in order to put the devil to flight.” He urges husbands and wives to turn their home into places of prayer and virtue, saying “The family is a little Church, where love, prayer, and forgiveness must reign as in the great Church.” More recently St. John Paul II in his Apostolic Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio, Latin for The Fellowship of the Family, proclaims that “At a moment of history in which the family is the object of numerous forces that seek to destroy it or in some way to deform it, and aware that the well-being of society and her own good are intimately tied to the good of the family,[7] the Church perceives in a more urgent and compelling way her mission of proclaiming to all people the plan of God for marriage and the family.” The battle waged against the family today is nothing new, and neither is our adversary, our opponent, the devil, who is prowling around like a roaring lion looking to create division and disunity in the midst of family life. So let us look to the intercession and example of the Holy Family and let us get battle-ready, strengthened and fortified for the task at hand, raising our own holy families!
- Grady's Corner: An Unholy Interest in the Paranormal Has Consequences
Since the release of The Conjuring in 2013, this supernatural horror franchise has sparked a lot of interest not only in Ed and Lorraine Warren, but in paranormal activity altogether. The Conjuring is listed as one of the most profitable horror movies in history, which led to a whole series of films related to the Warrens and their cases, including Annabelle, The Nun, and three other Conjuring films. This cultlike fanbase has brought its fascination into the real world with visits to the real-life “Conjuring House” and to Ed and Lorraine Warren’s home & museum, where visitors can interact with demonic artifacts and trinkets from allegedly infested homes and possession cases. Recently, a ghost-hunting enthusiast purchased the Ed and Lorraine Warren Occult Museum. In an Instagram announcement, he writes, “If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with the paranormal and all things haunted. You also may know The Conjuring films are my favorite scary movies of all time. So I’m incredibly honored to have taken over one of the most prominent properties in paranormal history.” The new owners announced, “We plan to open the house for overnight stays and museum tours so you yourself can experience and learn all the haunted history surrounding this amazing place.” For $666 (the Number of the Beast), fans can spend a night attempting to dialogue with spirits and seeing artifacts such as human skulls, a satanic idol, the Annabelle doll, and black magic weapons. The experience is sold out until April 2027. Visitors are even required to sign a spiritual liability waiver, which states, “Every guest will be asked to sign a physical liability waiver as well as a spiritual liability waiver. We are not liable for any physical or spiritual afflictions that may occur during your stay or at any point afterwards. This includes but is not limited to: scratches, possession, attachments, vomiting, fainting, levitation, sleep paralysis, bruising, black eyes, psychic wounds, nightmares, voices in your head, astral projections & beyond.” At the risk of stating the obvious, visiting a known paranormal site and/or partaking in activities that seek to communicate with unknown spirits is a very bad idea for a few primary reasons: An attempt to encounter paranormal activity is an invitation for relationship with unclean spirits. Whether intended or not, you are stepping into uncharted territory where the Evil One lingers. “Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Willingly visiting a seemingly demonically infested place, especially while living with unconfessed sin and/or not living in a state of grace, puts spiritually vulnerable people into a battle they are not prepared for. Scripture reminds us, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We are warned to avoid the Evil One, not invite him to interact with us. The Church vehemently opposes all forms of occultism, divination, witchcraft, mediums, psychics, etc., because they violate the First Commandment: “You shall not have other gods beside me.” Msgr. Stephen Rossetti’s latest book, My Confrontations with Hell, recounts a case in which a man’s unholy interest in the paranormal (including haunted-house visits and ghost hunting) led him to become possessed. Msgr. Rossetti reminds us that it is “a spiritually dangerous idea.” Many other exorcists have reported similar cases. An unholy interest in the paranormal can become an open door for the devil to walk through. For those hungry for a spiritual experience, grow in closeness to Jesus Christ and His Church. The lives of the saints show us the supernatural graces and experience that come from God. A vibrant spiritual life is a wonderful way to feed our spiritual hunger. Part of our profession of faith is to renounce Satan, all his works, and all his empty show. Let us always live according to this profession and seek the fullness of the spiritual life with our loving God.
- Grady's Corner: Should Christians Practice Reiki?
As I was scrolling through Instagram this week, a video of a Christian content creator caught my attention. The woman described a recent medical study which reported measurable scientific benefits from Reiki. Her takeaway was that Christians should embrace this alternative healing method as a way to follow in Jesus’ footsteps of healing. So, what is Reiki? The term Reiki comes from the words Rei (meaning universal) and Ki (life energy). It is a Japanese form of energy healing in which “healers” believe they can direct “universal life energy” through their hands to bring a person healing, relief, and balance. There is a fundamental problem with Reiki. God is the only healer to whom we go and ask for grace. It is true that saints and followers of Jesus may be given charismatic gifts of healing (i.e., St. Raphael the Archangel, St. Blaise), but they are simply channels of that healing, not the agents of it. This is why we pray through the intercession of the saints, because healing ultimately comes from God. Reiki’s channeling of unknown “energy” from the “universe” is not the seeking of God’s grace, but rather operates under the belief that we have the ability to manipulate forces. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops provided some guidance in a 2009 document, Guidelines for Evaluating Reiki as an Alternative Therapy, writing, “Neither the Scriptures nor the Christian tradition as a whole speak of the natural world as based on ‘universal life energy’ that is subject to manipulation by the natural human power of thought and will. In fact, this worldview has its origins in eastern religions and has a certain monist and pantheistic character, in that distinctions among self, world, and God tend to fall away.” The U.S. bishops also state, “Without justification either from Christian faith or natural science, however, a Catholic who puts his or her trust in Reiki would be operating in the realm of superstition, the no-man’s-land that is neither faith nor science. Superstition corrupts one’s worship of God by turning one’s religious feeling and practice in a false direction.” Let us not be so eager to pursue New Age healing remedies that fall outside of natural science and Church teaching. This is spiritually dangerous. When someone summons vague spiritual energies, instead of God, dark forces can respond. Exorcists have reported cases when demons have entered someone’s life as a result. There are many modern treatments available thanks to the innovations of great doctors. Morally sound and science-backed medicine, paired with the practice of the Christian faith, offers a safer and surely more blessed route to healing according to God’s plan.
- Grady's Corner: Demons Love Our Noisy Lives
I’ve spent the last five years managing social media for Catholic priests and apostolates. There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit is using social media to bring Christ and His Church to those who need it most, but there is also a danger. We spend countless hours consuming content, debating strangers online, and filling our minds with a thousand voices, yet rarely making room for God’s. Although we may consume nuggets of beauty and truth online, the never-ending feed of content served to us by social media companies through addictive algorithms is used by Satan to keep us in a state of inaction, isolation, and noise. In Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI wrote, “Only in silence can the word of God find a home in us.” What we need are periods of silence when God can whisper into our hearts. We also must be realistic about the algorithms by which content is served to us. Their incentive is to keep our eyes focused on the screen, and they are able to do that through clickbait, anger, controversy, and unholy entertainment that gives us a hit of dopamine. Social media is the newest continent to evangelize while simultaneously being Satan’s tool for keeping us in a constant state of distraction. When our eyes are fixed on screens, they are not fixed on Christ. This past weekend, one of my best friends and I drove out to the Shenandoah Valley for a retreat in the woods, where I severely limited my phone use and enjoyed the peacefulness of nature. St. John Paul II was a big advocate for spending time in nature. “We can pray perfectly when we are out in the mountains or on a lake and we feel at one with nature,” he once said. Today, I believe that digital noise is Satan’s tactic for taking our eyes off Jesus Christ. Our lives are flooded with noise: politics, gossip, Church drama, self-help, and millions of videos of mindless entertainment and humor. The endless scroll puts us into a digital trance, leaving little room for true encounters with God. Don’t let your life become consumed by never-ending noise. Find opportunities for silence and sit in God’s peace. Consider going on a silent retreat or spending a weekend in the woods like I did. Satan fears this silence because it is he who is silenced in these moments. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dby-9NTARI5/
- Exorcist Diary #401: Earnest Money of Hell & Heaven
[The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine of Siena, Giovanni di Paolo, 1460] A woman came to me who had practiced witchcraft for a dozen years. She had started her own coven and had all the paraphernalia including a large cache of books on the occult. The first thing that struck me was the dark cloud around her and the gloom on her face. When I mentioned it, she said she was aware of it and agreed that it was likely the result of her life in the occult. She said the practice of witchcraft kept promising great positive fruits but never delivered. Now she was coming for help. St. Catherine of Siena, in her famous work The Dialogue, wrote about the "earnest money of hell." She said that God revealed to her that those who are mired in evil and sin already, in this life, begin to taste the fruits of evil. In hell souls are estranged from God, the source of all joy and goodness. They are also tormented inwardly by their own conscience. They live in despair and a pervasive spiritual darkness. Souls immersed in evil and sin already have the seed of hell planted inside of them. Even now, they begin to taste its awful fruits. The Good News is that in this life we can also experience, according to St. Catherine, the "earnest money of heaven." As we are baptized and live a life of faith in Jesus Christ in the Church, we already begin "eternal life." It starts now in seed form and fully blossoms in the next life. The life of heaven is one of love, joy and peace. Our consciences are at peace. God's eternal life resides in us. This is why holy people often radiate a sense of joy and peace: they already have one foot in heaven! Satan is miserable and he cannot give what he does not have. He and his minions promise great things but only give a life of darkness, misery and despair, which those who follow his designs increasingly taste. On the other hand, God's eternal life is a free gift which He earnestly desires to share with us even now, if we let Him. More than a few who have turned away from the darkness of occult into the life of faith in Jesus have personally experienced this profound conversion and the foretaste of heaven. As the psalmist tells us: "Taste and see how good the Lord is!" (Ps 34:9). ----------------- +SMC is back offering its online prayers, videos and more. - Exorcist Diary #400: Defeating Demons at Death
[Good Angel of Death, Evelyn De Morgan 1880] At the moment of death, some people have reported being tempted and harassed by Satan. A famous case was St. Martin of Tours. At his death in 397 AD, he saw Satan present and he exclaimed: “Why do you stand there, you bloodthirsty brute? Murderer, you will not have me for your prey. Abraham is welcoming me into his embrace.” With that, he died and passed on to the Kingdom of God. Not uncommonly, people also report receiving special graces from the Lord at the time of death. We believe all are given a final chance to choose Jesus and eternal life with him, despite one’s history. Many report receiving special graces at this moment to illumine the reality of their final choice. As one soul reported, “Jesus appeared to me and asked if I wanted to live with him, or did I want to live with the demons?” One of our staff members shared a recent deathbed experience: I went to the hospital to pray at the bedside of my friend’s mom who was dying. I brought the crucifix with the saints’ relics we use. First, I sprinkled holy water generously around the room. I explained to my friends that demons sometimes tempt and torment the dying person in their final hours. Then I asked my friend if she wanted to bless her mom with the crucifix which she did, while we invoked the saints’ intercession and the Litany of the Saints. Next, I led them through praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, with the crucifix lying on her chest. They did not really know the Chaplet but quickly picked it up. In the fifth and last decade, which I told them symbolized when Jesus’ side was pierced and blood and water gushed out, her mom flatlined!! The team of nurses and doctors rushed in. We all continued praying as she passed.+ I then felt a graced exaltation of the spirit. It was truly the grace of a happy death. I am confident that Jesus welcomed her into the Kingdom. While the Evil One is intent on our destruction, he is dust compared to the power of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. At the moment of death, whether we are great saints or “normal” Christians, we rebuke the Evil One and commend our souls to Jesus. Having friends and family pray with us during our final hours is a special grace. But regardless, Jesus desires to welcome us all into his Kingdom of joy and peace. We turn our hearts to him in faith and perhaps repeat his own words when he died, “Father, into your hands, I commend my spirit.” ------------------------------- +The dying woman previously had been given the sacraments and prayed over by a priest as well. ++"We are coming back!" - Exorcist Diary #399: Was My Bench Cursed?
["Blessing Herself with Holy Water," Paul Seignac, 1826-1904] I often pray at night when all the world is dark and silent. It is easier to find some extended time to pray when all are asleep. Blessed Conchita, Mexican mystic, author and mother of nine, would wait until all her children were asleep to pray and write. She was amazingly prolific. But a recent night's prayer was unusual. Rather than being a time of peace, I felt greatly agitated, for no obvious reason. I could barely sit still; I was completely distracted; and the prayer time actually felt destructive. I left wondering if I should really be praying at night at all. Something was really off. I could not immediately discern anything that would cause such a negative downturn. Although there was one thing different about that night's prayer. My usual prayer bench was not available so I used one that had arrived from an outside source. I had later heard that the person, who had made the substitute bench, may have been consistently involved in some immoral behaviors. Was it the bench that disrupted my prayer? Was it cursed? So I took some holy water and doused it. I then said deliverance prayers over it and explicitly commanded any evil spirits to leave. Also, I lifted any curses that might be attached. The next night I sat on the bench and prayed. It was fine. Subsequently sessions continued to be fine. All back to normal. Hmmm... It is easy to overreact and see demons and curses under every rock. But demons do exist and so do evil curses. While the fervent follower of Jesus is largely protected, such evil forces can certainly cause a disturbance and be the cause of a demonic harassment. The fact that the bench had been in questionable spiritual hands and that the disturbance left after being exorcized are strong signs of the presence of such a curse. The takeaway? It is always good to have holy water available. Exorcists regularly experience its effectiveness against evil. Water conveys physical life. The Church's blessing conveys spiritual life. Demons are death dealers and they cast out by Jesus who is "The Life." Most important, demons and curses can harass the faithful but not overcome them. One night's uncomfortable prayer and a little holy water reminded me once again of who is the Author of Life and who is Lord. And now I have a bench that is "scrubbed" clean and a solid part of the chapel. ------------------------------------------- +"We are coming back!" - Grady's Corner: The Peace of Medjugorje Cannot Be Burned
Like many of you, I opened my phone yesterday morning to the news that the beautiful town of Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the place where alleged apparitions of Our Blessed Mother have been taking place since 1981, was devastated by an act of gross vandalism in the darkness of night. The statue of our Blessed Mother was defaced, and the outdoor sanctuary behind the beloved Church of St. James was set on fire. Last year, our St. Michael Center team traveled to Medjugorje on pilgrimage. After visiting 23 countries over the past several years, I can honestly say the palpable peace found in this little town is unlike any other place on earth. Peace is not only at the heart of Our Lady's messages there, it is the very spirit of the place. In Medjugorje, she is called the Queen of Peace. It is a glimpse of the supernatural peace that flows from the unity of Jesus' Sacred Heart and Mary's Immaculate Heart. I was heartbroken to think of this peace being disrupted by vandalism and vulgarity. Whenever these heartbreaking acts of hatred come to the surface of someone's heart, especially when they are directed at the Church, they feel deeply personal. The Church is a family, a heavenly one. When a church is destroyed, a statue is defaced, or the sacraments are desecrated, it is an attack on our family. It is easy to find ourselves filled with righteous anger, as any good son or daughter would when their mother or father is disrespected and hurt. Yet it is precisely in these moments that God gives us the opportunity to live out what He asks of us through the humble messages of Our Lady. Prayer, penance and forgiveness are the way of Our Lady, and they must be our response. The world tells us that strength is measured by our ability to win the fights we enter, whether it is a physical brawl or a verbal war. This temptation has only been amplified by an age of algorithmic outrage, where constant anger fuels online arguments and character assassination, even toward people we have never met. Our Lady reminds us that true strength is found in humility, justice, and holiness, especially in moments surrounded by the contagion of hatred. It takes far more strength to show restraint than to lash out. Whenever the devil seduces a soul into carrying out his evil works, we respond with the spiritual weapons he cannot imitate: humble prayer, penance, and forgiveness. This is the same love Christ showed each of us on the Cross when He prayed, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." This is strength. This is how we win the spiritual battle. Difficult, yes, but immensely powerful. Prayer often doesn't feel like enough. We should, of course, rely on the authorities and the legal system to address unlawful acts. But if we believe that alone is the solution, we are mistaken. The real work begins by interceding for these broken souls, praying for their repentance, healing, and peace. Our focus is on eternity. St. Paul reminds us, "We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." Until today, the man who committed this act of vandalism was unknown to most of humanity. Today, he is known by millions of believers. If we respond to this moment, and to every moment of suffering, with prayer and penance, those prayers accomplish far more in the spiritual realm than anything ever recorded in a court of law or a police report. Mary weeps, not because of the material damage done to her statue, but because one of her children is afflicted and lost. In our love for her and for our Heavenly Father, we storm heaven with prayer and penance for this unknown brother of ours who has not yet come to know God's love or the tender care of Our Lady. It is this Christian witness, rooted in trust in God's providence, that crushes Satan's kingdom. Satan seeks at every turn to disturb our peace and stir anxiety within us. But the peace found in Jesus Christ can never be taken away, no matter how hard the enemy instigates chaos. We must never forget the Lord's words in John's Gospel: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." Our hope and love cannot be burned or defaced because they are not of this world. Just a few days ago, Our Lady said in her Medjugorje message, "While darkness and peacelessness rule in many hearts, you, little children, be prayer and my extended hands of love." This is our moment to say "yes" to what she has always asked of us. Let us pray that the perpetrator is filled with the Holy Spirit and drawn into the loving embrace of Mary, his Mother. Let this attempt by the enemy to cause harm become a source of conversion. – Grady J. Connolly
