=======================================
mean(平均値)は、
outlier(外れ値)があると、
median(中央値)は、

【Lucia’s One-Minute Column — Today’s Perspective —】
Focus of Today : mean / median / outlier
The mean is calculated
by adding all values
and dividing by the number of cases.
It is simple and widely used.
However, when extreme values—
outliers—are present,
the mean can shift dramatically.
The median, on the other hand,
is the midpoint in an ordered list of values.
Because it is less influenced by extremes,
economists often rely on it
when analyzing income distribution.
Statistics themselves do not lie.
But depending on which indicator we choose,
our interpretation of reality can change.
🌿 Gentle Closing Version
Numbers are not enemies.
They are tools.
The key question is not
“Which number is correct?”
It is
“Which number fits the question we are asking?”
That awareness
marks the beginning of statistical literacy.
