**rational（理論的な）**という言葉は、
「理屈っぽい」「冷たい判断」という
印象を持たれがちです。
けれど本来の意味は、
感情や思いつきではなく、
他人に説明できる理由がある
ということです。
「この方法がよい」と言うだけでは足りません。
なぜそう言えるのか。
どんな知識やデータに基づくのか。
その道筋が示されて、はじめて
判断は rational になります。
英検1級や研究で問われているのは、
難しい理論そのものではありません。
考えを、他人が追える形で
説明できているかどうかなのです。

In academic writing and formal evaluation,
rational does not mean being cold or overly technical.
It means that a judgment can be explained and justified
beyond personal feelings or intuition.
Saying “this approach is effective” is not enough.
Writers are expected to show why it is effective,
what knowledge or data support it,
and how the conclusion was reached.
What is tested at the Eiken Grade 1 level is not advanced theory itself,
but whether your reasoning is presented
in a way that others can logically follow.
That is what makes an argument truly rational.
