I wondered why this masterpiece was not in the top 10 in the U.S., and upon further investigation, I found that the North American version of "Nausicaä", "Warriors of the Wind", is a "badly revised" version of the original.

"子供向けアクション映画としてしか売り出せないので、映画の4分の1程度（「動きが遅い」と感じた部分）をカットし、その過程でストーリーも文字化けした 。it only be marketed as a kid's action movie, so they cut out about a quarter of the movie (the parts they felt were "slow moving") and garbled the storyline in the process."

(Tokuma Shoten) also points out that "(the cut was) a simple and clear-cut drama of good versus evil with the future of mankind at stake" (p170). This was what Miyazaki himself most wanted to avoid.
